1 INSTALLATION OF PORTABLE O3 MONITORING STATION TIOL PARK SERVICE AMBIENT AIR QUALITY AND METEOROLOGY MONITORING NETWORK ASSATEAGUE ISLAND TIOL SEASHORE APRIL 24, 2006 prepared for John Ray TIOL PARK SERVICE Research and Monitoring Branch Air Resources Division P.O. Box Denver, Colorado NPS Contract No. C prepared by AIR RESOURCE SPECIALISTS, INC Sharp Point Drive Suite E Fort Collins, Colorado 80525
2 1.0 CALIBRATION SUMMARY In accordance with NPS Gaseous Pollutant Monitoring Program (GPMP) guidelines, ARS performed a maintenance and calibration visit at the following air quality station: Park or Monument: Assateague Island National Seashore Air quality site: Maintenance Yard Subject: Re-Installation Visit Service date: April 24, 2006 Service technician: Michael Slate A summary of pre- and post-maintenance calibration results is presented in Table 1-1. Pre Maintenance Calibration Summary: All sensors passed the pre-maintenance checks except rainfall, which was found to be 10 percent low. Maintenance Action Summary: Ozone: The 2B Technologies O3 monitor (SN 173) was calibrated at ARS prior to this installation trip. No on-site calibration was required. The 2B instrument installed has the Nafion desiccant and the memory card. During the installation, the analyzer responded as expected. Meteorological: The wind speed/direction sensor was rebuilt, aligned, and passed all checks. The relative humidity/ambient temperature sensor was replaced with a recent calibrated unit and checked against a reference sensor onsite with good results. The solar radiation sensor was compared to a reference sensor with good results. The rainfall sensor failed the first tipping test. The tipping points were adjusted, and the test was performed again with excellent results. Post Maintenance Calibration Summary: All systems were within specifications.
3 STATION OPERATOR 2.0 ADDITIOL NOTES AND OBSERVATIONS Eric Sherry is the station operator and was refreshed to perform the weekly checks on the air quality station. Eric also assisted in the installation of the system. MONITORING EQUIPMENT This station operated at this location last season. The tripod and solar system were not moved. There is substantial evidence that birds like to perch on the equipment, especially the solar radiation sensor. The operator may try using an owl or snake decoy to keep the birds away. The Campbell Scientific Data Logger, Model 23X has serial number The ORBCOMM Satellite Modem, Model Q2000 manufactured by Quake, has serial number Campbell Scientific Relay Driver has serial number SITE LOCATION The following coordinates of the site location were determined by a hand held GPS unit: N 38 o W 75 o Elevation: 7 feet 3.0 CALIBRATION FORMS All calibration forms are attached. These forms present the details of pre- and postmaintenance calibrations.
