34 The interquartile range (IQR) is the range of the middle 50% of the data in a distribution. It is computed as follows: IQR = 75th percentile - 25th percentile Data are put in numerical order and then the lower and upper quarter of the data are discarded

Example If you observe a normal distribution of your variable with a mean of 50 and a standard deviation of 10, then 68% of the distribution would be between = 40 and =60. Similarly, about 95% of the distribution would be between 50-2 x 10 = 30 and x 10 = 70.
