Tranvere Target Azimuthal Single Spin Aymmetry in Elatic e N Scattering Tareq Alhalholy and Matthia Burkardt Department of Phyic, New Mexico State Univerity, La Cruce, NM 883-1, U.S.A. arxiv: v1 [hep-ph 2 Jul 216 November 9, 217 Abtract Uing the Coulomb Eikonal Phae aociated with a tranverely polarized nucleon, we calculate the azimuthal ingle pin aymmetry of unpolarized electron elatically cattered from a tranverely polarized nucleon target. The azimuthal aymmetry in thi cae i attributed to the fact that in a tranverely polarized nucleon, the tranvere charge denity i no longer axially ymmetric and i ditorted due to the tranvere pin of the nucleon. Thi aymmetry in the nucleon charge denity caue a left-right aymmetry in the azimuthal ditribution of the cattered electron. In our approach, we utilize the relativitic Eikonal approximation to calculate the one and two photon exchange amplitude from which a non zero azimuthal aymmetry appear due to the interference between the two amplitude. 1
I. Introduction Polarized cattering experiment have become a primary tool to extract information about different propertie of hadron in elatic and deep inelatic (DIS) cattering procee where ingle (and double) pin aymmetry i the main meaured quantity in the different cattering procee. Due to time-reveral invariance, thi quantity vanihe in the one photon approximation and knowledge of the two photon exchange proce i neceary to calculate the aymmetry, beide it importance to achieve the neceary preciion needed to undertand dicrepancie in recent experimental reult related to nucleon form factor [1 4. In incluive and emi incluive DIS procee, the information obtained from the oberved a zimuthal (left right) aymmetry ha attracted many current experimental and theoretical attention. Similarly in elatic e p cattering, tranvere beam or target azimuthal aymmetrie have recently become under experimental and theoretical invetigation [5 8, where information about nucleon form factor and nucleon tructure can be extracted beide acceing the two photon exchange amplitude. In thi work we are intereted in the azimuthal tranvere (or normal) target SSA in elatic e N cattering. A main motivation for thi work i the fact that the charge denity for a tranverely polarized nucleon i no longer axilay ymmetric in the tranvere plane and i diturbed due to the tranvere pin of the nucleon [9, 1. Thi azimuthal aymmetry in the charge denity play a main rule in the oberved aymmetry in incluive and emi incluive DIS [ In a imilar way, in elatic cattering of electron from a tranverely polarized nucleon, the azimuthal aymmetry in the nucleon charge denity i expected to caue an aymmetry in the ditribution of the cattered electron. Moreover, while tranvere target SSA in elatic cattering ha been extenively tudied [14 16, there i no explicit calculation of the azimuthal aymmetry in thi cae. In our approach, the azimuthal aymmetry of the cattered electron appear a a conequence of the ditortion of the tranvere charge denity for a tranverely polarized target. In Ref. [11 the electromagnetic potetial aociated with a tranverely polarized nucleon wa calculated, thi potential repreent the impact parameter Coulomb-Eikonal phae which carrie the aymmetry of the tranvere charge denity of the nucelon and repreent the main input for the relativitic Eikonal approximation amplitude [ By expanding the Eikonal amplitude, one can calculate the one and two photon exchange amplitude, from which it can be hown that SSA i indeed vanihe at the one photon exchange level, while a non zero aymmetry appear due to the interference of the one and two photon exchange amplitude. II. Nucleon Tranvere Charge and Magnetization Denitie We tart by a introducing the tranvere tructure of the nucleon [9,2, which i the frame of thi work. For a nucleon of ma M tranverely polarized (with repect to the plane of the incident beam) in the x direction, the charge denity i no longer axially ymmetric and the ditribution of parton in the tranvere plane i ditorted which i repreented by a dipole term in the parton ditribution function for a tranverely polarized nucleon. In term of the relevant generalized parton ditribution, GPD, the parton ditribution function i given by [9 d 2 q [ q(x,b ) = q (2π) 2e ib H q (x,, q 2 )+i q y 2M Eq (x,, q 2 ) = q(x,b ) 1 E q (x,b ), 2M b y (1) where d 2 q q(x,b ) = (2π) 2Hq (x,, q 2 )e ib q, (2) E q (x,b ) = d 2 q (2π) 2Eq (x, q 2 )e ib q, (3)
uing F 1 (t) = q e q 1dxH q (x,ξ,t), F 2 (t) = q e q dxe q (x,ξ,t), (4) and d 2 q ( ) ρ 1 ( b ) = b (2π) 2e iq F 1 q 2 d 2 q ( ), ρ2 ( b ) = b (2π) 2e iq F 2 q 2, (5) the nucleon tranvere charge denity in impact parameter pace can be written a ρ(b ) = ρ 1 ( b ) 1 2M y ρ 2( b ), (6) the econd term in the above equation repreent a hift in the tranvere charge denity in the y direction with repect to the unpolarized charge denity, repreented by the undetorted firt term in the above equation. The charge denity in the tranvere plane for a tranverely polarized nucleon can be written in a more ueful form by evaluating the Fourier tranform in Eq.(1) [2 ρ T (b ) = ρ(b ) in(φ b φ ) dq 2π 1 q 2 2M j 1(b q )F 2 (q 2 ). (7) The above form how the explicit azimuthal dependence of the nucleon charge denity. III. Coulomb Eikonal Phae and One and Two Photon Exchange Eikonal Amplitude For unpolarized beam of electron elatically cattered from a tranverly polarized nucleon traget, the cattering amplitude in the relativitic Eikonal approximation i given by [17, 19 f (q ) = 2i [e iχ (b ) 1, (8) where i the center of ma energy, b = b co(φ b ) ê x + b in(φ b ) ê y, q = q co(φ q ) ê x + q in(φ q )ê y andχ (b )ithecoulomb/eikonal phaeaociated withanucleontarget ofpintranvere to the plane of the incident beam with pin vector S = co(φ ) ê x + in(φ ) ê y. The Coulomb/Eikonal phae i given by χ (b ) = 4πα e 2 dz A () (b,z) = 4πα e 2 A () (b ), (9) where, A () i the electromagnetic tranvere potential produced by a tranverely polarized nucleon of pin up, and α e = i the electromagnetic coupling contant. From Ref. [11, the tranvere potential i given by A () (b ) = 1 2π dq [ J (b q )+J (b q )F 1 (q 2 q ) + in(φ b φ ) 4πM dq J 1 (b q )F 2 (q 2 ), where b i a reference point for the tranvere potential which can be choen to be the tranvere radiu of the nucleon ince the tranvere potential i ufficiently vanihe outide the charge ditribution [11. By expanding the exponential in (8), the Eikonal cattering amplitude take the form f (q ) = 2i [ 4πα e i4πα 2 A () (b ) 1 = A () (b )+ i8πα2 (1) [A () (b ) 2 +. (11) The firt term in the above expanion repreent the one photon exchange amplitude while the econd correpond to the two photon exchange amplitude. In the following ection we will explicitly calculate thee two amplitude from which one can evaluate the ingle pin aymmetry. 2
IV. Evaluation of the One and Two Photon Exchange Eikonal Amplitude The potential in Eq.(1) can be written a a um of unpolarized and polarized term A () (b ) = A () u (b )+A () p (b ), where A () u (b ) = 1 2π A () p (b ) = in(φ b φ ) 4πM dq [ J (b q )+J (b q )F 1 (q 2 q ) Thu, the 1γ amplitude (the firt term in eq.(11)) become, dq J 1 (b q )F 2 (q 2 ). (12) f (1γ) = f (1γ)u + f (1γ)p, (13) where f (1γ)u (q ) = 4πα f (1γ)p (q ) = 4πα A () u (b ), A () p (b ), (14) the integration over φ b in the unpolarized term give 2πJ (b q ), thu we have f (1γ)u (q ) = 8π 2 α db b J (b q ) A () u ( b ) = 8π 2 α I (1γ) u, where I u (1γ) i the integral in Eq.(15). In the polarized term, the integration over φ b give 2πiJ 1 (b q )in(φ q φ ) and the correponding amplitude become f (1γ)p (q ) = i8π 2 αin(φ q φ ) = i8π 2 αin(φ q φ ) I (1γ) p, db b J 1 (b q ) A () p (b ) in(φ b φ ) (15) (16) where I (1γ) p i the integral in Eq.(16). Thu, the 1γ amplitude become [ f (1γ) (q ) = 8π 2 α I u (1γ) + iin(φ q φ ) I p (1γ). (17) Next we conider the 2γ exchange amplitude which, from Eq.(11), i given by f (2γ) (q ) = i8π2 α 2 2. [A () (b ) (18) Similar to the 1γ exchange cae, thi amplitude can be decompoed into three part a follow f (2γ)u1 (q ) = i8π2 α 2 [ 2, A () u (b ) f (2γ)u2 (q ) = i8π2 α 2 [ 2, A () p (b ) f (2γ)p (q ) = i16π2 α 2 A () p (b ) A () u (b ), (19) 3
integrating over φ b in each of the above integral, one obtain f (2γ)u1 (q ) = i16π3 α 2 [ 2 db b J (b q ) A () u (b ) = i16π3 α 2 I (2γ) u1, [ f (2γ)u2 (q ) = i8π3 α 2 A () 2 p (b ) db b [J 2 (b q )co(2φ q 2φ )+J (b q ) in 2 (φ b φ ) [ I u (2γ) 2a co(2φ q 2φ ) + I u (2γ) 2b, = i8π3 α 2 f (2γ)p (q ) = 32π3 α 2 in(φ q φ ) = 32π3 α 2 where in the econd integral we ued 2π in(φ q φ ) I (2γ) p, db b J 1 (b q ) A () p (b ) in(φ b φ ) A() u (b ) dφ b in 2 (φ b φ )e ( iq b co(φ b φ q )) = π[j 2 (b q )co(2φ q 2φ )+J (b q ). Therefore, the 2γ exchange amplitude become [ ( ) f (2γ) (q ) = 16π3 α 2 i I (2γ) u1 + I(2γ) u 2a co(2φ q 2φ ) I(2γ) u 2b +2 I p (2γ) in(φ q φ ) (2) (21) From Eq.(17,21) it i clear that the one and two photon amplitude are azimuthally aymmetric, however the correponding cro ection are azimuthally ymmetric while the azimuthal aymmetry appear in the interference term between the 1γ and 2γ amplitude a we hall ee in the next ection. V. Azimuthal Tranvere Target Single Spin Aymmetry in Elatic e p Scattering Single pin aymmetry i defined a A n = σ σ σ +σ, (22) The pin up and pin down cro ection are given by σ = f 1γ +f 2γ 2 = f 1γ 2 + f 2γ 2 +f 1γ f 2γ +f 1γ f 2γ, σ = f 1γ +f 2γ 2 = f 1γ 2 + f 2γ 2 +f 1γ f 2γ +f 1γ f 2γ, (23) The pin down amplitude i obtained by rotating the pin vector by π. Thu, from Eq.(17, 21), one obtain f 1γ = f 1γ f 1γ = f 1γ f 2γ = f 2γ f 2γ =. (24) f 2γ Therefore, we get and the aymmetry take the form σ σ = 2f 1γ f 2γ +2f 1γ f 2γ, σ +σ = 2 f 1γ 2 +2 f 2γ 2, (25) A n = 2Re[f 1γ f 2γ f 1γ 2 + f (26) 2γ 2. 4

Concluion We tudy ingle pin azimuthal aymmetry in elatic electron-nucleon cattering for the cae of tranverely polarized nucleon with unpolarized electron beam. The aymmetry in thi cae appear due to the interference between the 1γ and 2γ exchange amplitude. To calculate the (1) and (2γ) Eikonal cattering amplitude, we ued the Coulomb/Eikonal phae aociated with a tranverely polarized nucleon, thi phae i aymmetric in impact parameter pace; conitent with the fact that the nucleon charge denity (or the impact parameter dependent parton ditribution function) i tranverely ditorted due to the tranvere pin of the nucleon, which explain the exitence of SSA in thi cae. Figure.1 how the azimuthal target ingle pin aymmetry for different value of the center of ma energy and momentum tranfer, a expected, the aymmetry increae with q and decreae with the center of ma energy. The apmlitude in the figure are conitent with the expected value of the tranvere target SSA with unpolarized electron beam. In the calculation, the tranvere radiu of the proton wa taken from Ref. [2 and the GPD parametrization of the proton form factor from Ref. [21 while the integral were evaluated numerically uing the CUBA library for multidimenional numerical integration [22. 5
