Last Time Out The baseball offense came back on Saturday afternoon as a five-run fourth inning propelled the Niners to a 7-4 victory at Louisiana Tech. The 49ers get back to.500 with the win and improve to 7-2 all-time against the Bulldogs. cranked out 11 hits in the win and rode the left arm of Josh Maciejewski to help shutdown C-USA foe Louisiana Tech. About the Series and N.C. State meet for the 33rd time in series history with the Wolfpack holding a decisive 24-8 record. NCSU won the first-ever collegiate game in Uptown last year with a 10-6 decison over the 49ers. Tonight marks the first of two meetings in the annual series as will head to Raleigh next Wednesday for the return trip during a road trip that features a span of nine out of the next 10 coming on the road. Jones Leads the Nation shortstop Hunter Jones currently leads the entire nation with his 13 sacrifice bunts on the year. Jones has climbed up the 49ers record book sitting in fifth for most sacrifices in a single season needing just one more to move into a three-way tied for third. Justin Roland holds the single season record with 22 back in the 2011 campaign. Jones put down a pair of sacrifice bunts in his rookie season last year to give him 15 in his career. Roland has the all-time career record with 39 during his recent four-year career. Ober Named C-USA s Hitter of the Week designated hitter Drew Ober was named Conference USA s Hitter of the Week on March 14th after hitting.474 in a five-game week. Ober hit.429 going 3-for-7 in a two-game midweek series with Georgia before falling up with a.500 series going 6-for-12 at the plate in a weekend series vs. Fairfield. The freshman eclipsed his earlier career high of three hits by putting up five in a 5-for-7 effort at the plate in game two of the weekend doubleheader. Ober finished a home run shy of the cycle in that game. Walking Off for First Career HR Sophomore Brett Netzer picked a great time to belt his first career home run doing so on 3/23 at home vs. Wake Forest. With two outs in the bottom of the ninth in a 6-6 game, Netzer crushed a no-doubter on the 2-2 offering over the wall in right allowing the 49ers to beat the Deacons 7-6. The HR was s second-straight walk-off winner and the third the season. Both of s previous walk-offs were in game two of Saturday DH s and in extra innings. Logan Sherer s single on 2/27 vs. Toledo and T.J. Nichting s double on 3/19 vs. Fairfield ended the night. vs.

Nichting DESIGNATED HITTER Drew Ober Logan Sherer Eddie Hull Baseball Game Day Uptown Upsurgence & Week of Hits took the field at BB&T BallPark for the first of three Uptown games in 2016 and had the offense shine under the bright lights. The 49ers cranked out a then season high 18 hits thanks in part to an eight-run, eight-hit, 40-minute bottom of the 7th on Tuesday, March 8th. Logan Sherer capped off his 4-for-4 night with a three-run blast in that 7th inning finishing a triple of shy of the coveted cycle. To finish, the 49ers added a new season high of 19 hits, topping the one set four days prior in Uptown against UGA, by doing it one better vs. Fairfield to compile 59 in the week. Third Year Bounce Back After a tough sophomore season in 2015, junior T.J. Nichting has bounced back to start the 2016 season hitting.370 through his first 24 games. His start includes a grand slam hit against Toledo back on February 27th and 11 RBI. He s currently leading the team with his.370 average, ranked second in RBI, while he holds the team lead in hits (37) while having the team lead with 11 doubles, and tied for team lead with a triple. Sherer s Fast Start Continues Logan Sherer wasted little time in getting the 2016 season started with a bang. The junior hit.417 during the opening three-game series vs. William & Mary. Sherer went 5-for-12 at the plate that included a two-run jack on opening night in a 7-3 victory over the Tribe. Sherer added a double and three runs scored during the Feb weekend. Sherer continued his tear hitting.450 (9-for-20) in the Toledo series with another homer, double and seven more RBI. Through 21 games, Sherer sits at the.350 mark with a team-high four homers and 24 runs driven in. Rookie(s) Raking freshman Reece Hampton collected at-least one hit in each of his first 17 games as a collegiate player. The centerfielder set a new career high with three hits in the 12-4 victory over Toledo in game one on 2/27, hit.368 against the Rockets and sits at.340 overall. Not to be outdone, freshman teammate Drew Ober sits at.341 through 23 games with a home run and 14 runs driven in. Netzer Continues to Torture Opp. Pitching Sophomore Brett Netzer has picked up from where he left off in 2015 starting the year with a.337 average through the first 24 games thanks in part to a team-best.533 average against Toledo. The second baseman went 8-for-15 at the plate with a pair of doubles, five RBI and four runs scored. Netzer sported a nice.318 average in his rookie season over 41 games. Doubleheader Dominance x 2 The 49ers dominated their Toledo doubleheader offensively hitting.338 as a team and.300 or better in seven different offensive situations at the plate. Logan Sherer combined to go 7-for-12 (.583) at the dish on 2/27 with six RBI and four runs scored. Brett Netzer ended up 4-for-7 (.571), T.J. Nichting finished 5-for-9 (.556) with his grand slam while Reece Hampton concluded 5-for-11 (.455). set their previous season high of 13 hits in game one breaking it just three hours later with 14 in the nightcap. Two weeks later, would do nearly the same in sweep Fairfield with a 6-2 and 13-inning, 8-7 victory to win that weekend series.
