6 VCHS NEWSLETTER JANUARY 2019 APIECEOFHEAVEN The blessings of God' s overwhelming love. This November has been one of the best months of my entire life. We have had a very successful Kairos Retreat, Immaculée Ilibigiza came to speak to the student body and I just returned from a life-changing trip to Africa. In my wildest dreams, I would never have thought that a?yes? to leaving my Heaven at Eaton Park Elementary would lead to a new Heaven across the world. Saying?yes? to Vermilion Catholic High School has brought me so many gifts. Gifts I could never have received if God was not the selfless God that He is. As campus minister, I receive the chance to spread to give them more because they loved Left to Tell like I loved it. As we read, I realized they were grasping the message. They were clinging to the vulnerability, honesty and mercy pouring out of every page. Contacting Immaculée?s manager was such a simple process and?no? was a huge possibility but?yes? was God?s will. Having Immaculée come to school was purely for my students. I expected nothing from that, but was I entirely wrong. God was about to give me more than I ever expected from life. I spent an entire week in Rwanda. I fell in love with a people so pure, faithful and good. I felt a bond N ot once in t his land did I sense hat r ed. I f elt peace. I f elt love. I f elt healing. the gospel message to so many but I could not impact one soul if it were not God?s will. He so desperately wants me to serve Him that He made it my profession. Not my will for my life, but His. It pained me to leave my kindergarten babies at Eaton Park Elementary, but two years later, I cannot believe the beauty overflowing in my life. I have grown babies now -- young adults who love me unconditionally. They love me in ways I do not deserve. I love them in ways they do. They are perfect. Their perfection gives me graces -- graces that I need. Graces that keep me focused, praying, and smiling. Their love drove me to give them a gift in return. Immaculée Ilibigiza?s book Left to Tell was that gift. We read this book in October. They dove into Rwanda with their hearts and souls. It was beautiful. It left me even hungrier with a woman I have respected for years. We talked, prayed and got to know one another in a way I never even dared to dream we would. How many people can say they have literally walked through their favorite book with their favorite author? I cannot believe how blessed I am and God?s love keeps overwhelming me. I loved every second of my time in Rwanda. I came home with Rwanda in my heart and my soul. I pray it is God?s will to send me back. One very small yes to God has turned into an abyss of opportunity and joy from that same God. Our Lady appeared in Kibeho, Rwanda in 1981 and spread love, mercy, and joy. She also warned the people about consequences of allowing hatred, prejudice and anger to rot in hearts created for love. The people failed to heed her warnings and fell victim to a genocide that resulted in the deaths of 1,000,000 Rwandans. Neighbors killed neighbors. Friends

7 murdered friends. Their future generations scarred for years to come. Not once in this land did I sense hatred. I felt peace. I felt love. I felt healing. Rwanda is healing. They rely on Our Lady and her Son. I have never seen faith like this. I have never seen devotion like this. I have never seen humility like this. Sometimes we blind ourselves to the depths of filth the human race can accomplish but only through those hideous acts can we juxtapose the glorious beauty our God is capable of. Rwanda has decided to prosper, love, and glorify God. They are a people on their knees begging for mercy and forgiveness, and they are thriving because they have the humility to acknowledge they need God. I pray to never forget that I need Him as well. It is said that Mary left a piece of Heaven in Kibeho? she not only left a piece... she left peace. If you are ever looking for a chance to visit Heaven on Earth, Kibeho is your chance.
