2 HABITATS Goals... Trying to build INSPIRE Compliant Geospatial System (SDI), - regarding some aspects inside an area that has a great environmental value, so connected to environmetal presentation, - using a bottom-up approach typical of living labs...

3 Pursuing HABITATS Goals In order to do this it is necessary to: capture user requirements; develop a system that satisfies those requirements; check the quality of results with users' interaction.

4 Pilot projects at Madonie Park -Hiking Trip Planner; - Sheep and Goat Herd Managemement.

5 Hiking stakeholders community The stakeholder community is composed by three main groups: Stakeholders that have economic interests (tourist reception structures such as hotels, bed & breakfast, car and cycle rental, shops, producers of typical products and all others that can get economic benefits from the development of tourism); NO-profit Stakeholders ( they have no economic interests such as Sport Clubs, Italian Alpine Club, Sicilian Alpine Club, non-profit Environmental Associations, Scientists, etc); Single users: people interested in independent hiking or other kinds of independent use of data.

6 Sheep S and Goat Herd Managemement For this pilot, the stakeholder community is made up of: Madonie Park Authority (public stakeholder); Shepherds and sheep and goat farmers; Owners of private areas suitable for grazin;g Dairy farmers; Other categories indirectly interested are: Scientists; Schools; Hikers;

7 Shepherds Needs and Habitats answers 1) Shepherds and farmers Habitats answers Simplified procedures to get the assignment The availability of updated and reliable maps and geographical information, and the use of of grazing areas these for mapping grazing rights areas also as transparency action of a good public administration. System for localization of their herds for which it is also necessary internet or other forms of connectivity in the grazing areas. The availability of affordable positioning collars for the animals. Qualification of their products Qualification of product based on presence of herds in some park areas. Communication services to stay in contact with the Park Administration. 2) Madonie Park Authority The availability of information related to the environmental flora and fauna features in and near the grazing areas. Managing of areas compliant for grazing A web site showing typical production of according to a plan with GIS instruments dairy products, also giving the position on with the possiblity to access data both in local maps of production sites as well as with remote access

8 Hikers Needs and Habitats answers Hikers Needs Habitats answers Maps updated with correct paths signaled in the most suitable way; WEBGIS platform that allows hikers to compose a path to walk along choosing some thematic aspects (flora, fauna, cultural goods), with information on features of each path; Map browsing on internet; Inspire compliant platform (as part of regional SDI), useful to access data through web services by GIS software; Download of data on hiking paths; Availability of functions to download maps for GPS receivers and other navigational instruments; Information on navigation conditions and safety along paths; Capability to access metadata trough OGC compliant catalogue service; Planning of paths according to temathic interests of hikers; Browse maps with mobile phones or smartphones equipped with GPS receivers Also sheep and goat owners and shepherds that produce characteristic products on the mountains require their production sites to be included as waypoints Live access to data by web services in order to be used for navigation with smartphones

11 Work on metadata Definition of an agreement between Sicily Region Administration and Madonie Park by which metadata of new dataset will be published on Geoportal of Sicily Region at ARTA Sicilia, while data should remain available for the access, by web services, on the site of Madonie Park WEBGIS Application (work in progress)
