2 Prepare a financial analysis of the geoinformation project and evaluate relevancy of different variants - The student is able to: Prepare a basic ROI project for implementation of GIS/GIT Identify, describe and justify the costs and benefits of GIS/GIT projects Teaching methods (representation of individual methods must be quantified in %) Lectures 35 % Exercises 35 % Individual work 30 % Annotation The course introduces the students to planning and projecting geographical information systems and other geoinformation technologies. The scope of the course includes strategic planning and management, mainly the ROI method, general rules for developing and operation of GIS applications, geoinformation infrastructures, methods used for economic evaluation of GIS applications, technical harmonization, normalization, quality management and project management. The course includes examples of selected case studies of developing GIS applications and implementation of the INSPIRE Directive. Methods of continuous checking knowledge during the semester The knowledge and skills are monitored during the semester by means of individual tasks. Outline of lectures 1) Differences in planning GIS and IS. 2) Company information strategy. 3) Project planning. 4) Strategic planning of a GIS. Projecting a GIS. 5) Preparation of an ROI project, identification of business opportunities. Prioritization of business opportunities. Design of a GIS program. Definition of project control. 6) Specification and quantification of costs of GIS projects. Determination of benefits according to ROI. Creating the benefit plan. Calculation of finantial indicators. Creating and presentation of the report according to ROI. 7) Choosing and implementation of a GIS according to Korte. 8) Choosing and implementation of a GIS according to Tomlinson and Clark. 9) Recommendations for development of a GIS. Choosing SW for the GIS. Operation of the GIS. 10) Using services provided by external consultant when choosing and implementing the GIS. Financial reasoning for the GIS development project. 11) Costs and benefits of the GIS/GIT, estimation and quantification. 12) Evaluation of the progress during the project implementation. 13) Primary and secondary European law. Technical normalization. 14) Geoinformation infrastructure. 15) The EU and CR legislation currently in force(inspire, Act no 123, act on basic registers ).
