Thrmodynamic proprtis ar usful for undrstanding th variations in liquid structur and th molcular intraction of th liquid mixturs. Ultrasonic invstigation finds xtnsiv applications in probing in to th physico-chmical bhavior and proprtis of th liquid and binary liquid mixtur. Invstigation rsults ar usd in dsign procsss in th chmical and ptrochmical industris. Th masurmnt of ultrasonic vloc in liquids and liquid mixturs is usd as an ffctiv tool to prov th proprtis of liquid mixturs. Pur liquids and liquid mixturs consisting polar & non-polar componnts ar considrabl importanc in analyzing intrmolcular intraction btwn componnt molculs and molcular structur accuratly. INTRODUCTION Th masurmnt of ultrasonic vloc in liquids and liquid mixturs is usd as an ffctiv tool to prov into th proprtis of liquid mixturs.[ 1].Th ultrasonic studis ar xtnsivly usd to stimat th thrmodynamic proprtis and prdict th intrmolcular intractions in pur,liquid mixturs [ 2 ]. Ultrasonic vloc and rlatd thrmodynamic paramtrs hlps us for charactrizing thrmodynamic and physico-chmical aspcts of binary liquid mixturs such as molcular association and dissociation [3-4]. Pur liquids and liquid mixturs consisting polar & non-polar componnts ar considrabl importanc in analyzing intrmolcular intraction btwn componnt molculs [5-7]. Th ultrasonic invstigations of ths studis find svral applications in industris. Such studis as variations in concntration and tmpratur ar usful in giving insight in to structur and various bonding of associatd molcular complxs [8-10] and othr rlatd molcular procsss. Th masurmnts of ultrasonic vloc hav bn adquatly mployd in undrstanding th natur of molcular systms [11]. Ultrasonic and viscos masurmnts hav bn widly usd in fild of intractions structural aspct valuations studis.. Empirical and smi mpirical [12] and.statistical thoris [13] hav bn usd in valuating ultrasonic vloc in binary liquid mixturs. Th masurmnt of ultrasonic spd nabls us to th accurat masurmnt of som usful acoustic and Thrmodynamic paramtrs and thir xcss valus [14-17]. Ths xcss valus of ultrasonic vloc, adiabatic comprssibil, molar volum and viscos in binary liquid mixtur ar usful in undrstanding th solut-solvnt intractions. Th study of molcular association in binary liquid mixtur having alcohol as on of componnt is of particular intrst sinc alcohols ar strongly slf-associatd liquids having thr dimnsional ntwork of hydrogn bonding and can b associat with any othr group having som dgr of polar attraction [700]

2 [18-21]. Th variation in ultrasonic vloc givs information about th bonding btwn molculs and formation of complxs at various concntration and tmpratur through molcular intractions [22-25]. MATERIALS AND METHODS Th Chmicals usd for th prsnt study ar Butanol Chmical formula : CH 3 (CH 2) 3 OH Molcular wight : gm Rfractiv indx : Dns : gm/cm 3 Pntanol Chmical formula : (CH 3 ) (CH 2) 4 OH Molcular wight : gm Rfractiv indx : Dns : gm/cm 3 Hxanol Chmical formula : (CH 3) (CH 2) 5 OH Molcular wight : gm Rfractiv indx : Dns : gm/cm 3 N,N Dimthyl Actamid Chmical formula : CH 3C (O) N (CH 3) 2 Molcular wight : gm Rfractiv indx : Dns : gm/cm 3 Exprimntal Studis Ultrasonic masurmnts in mgahrtz (MHz) rang ar important in th study of th rlaxation phnomnon in liquids, solutions, polymrs and bio chmicals. In particular th ultrasonic masurmnts of som binary solutions provid important information about th dynamical proprtis of phas transition and critical phnomnon. Th Ultrasonic Intrfromtr of 1 MHz (M/S Mittal ntrpriss, Nw Dlhi) is usd for th prsnt study. Th dnsitis of pur liquids and liquid mixturs wr masurd by using a spcific grav bottl. Th vloc of sound wavs was found using an ultrasonic intrfromtr (Mittal Entrpriss, Nw Dlhi) at a fixd frquncy of 1MHz with an accuracy of ±2ms-1 m.s -1. masurmnts wr carrid out with an Oswald s viscomtr having tim of fflux 0.01s and th accuracy was found to b ± 3x10-6Nm -2 s. Flow tim masurmnts wr prformd using an automatic viscos (tim) masurmnt unit with a rsolution of ± 0.1 scond. Th tmpratur around th viscomtr was maintaind within 0.1K in an lctronically controlld thrmostatic watr bath. RESULTS AND DISCUSSION Ultrasonic vlocitis (u), dnsitis () and viscositis () in th abov systms ovr ntir rang of composition at th room tmpratur of about 30 0 C hav bn masurd. Th vlocitis (u) ar dtrmind at a frquncy of 2 MHz. Ths xprimntal valus ar usd in computing various thrmodynamic paramtrs such as Adiabatic comprssibil ( s), Molar Volum (V), Intrmolcular fr lngth (L f), Rao's constant (R), Wada's Constant (W), and Excss proprtis of adiabatic comprssibil ( s E ), volum (V E ), viscos ( E ) and Man fr lngth (L f E ). Ths rsults along with th intraction paramtr and intraction nrgy from viscos (), masurmnts ar prsntd in Tabls 1.1,1.2 &1.3. Th variation of ultrasonic vloc (u) and dnsitis () and viscositis () with volum componnt prcntag of th systms of alcohols in N-N Dimthyl actamid ar shown in Fig. 1.1&1.3. From th figurs it is obsrvd that th vloc varis linarly with dcrasing trnd with th concntration. Th dnsitis () of th systms of alcohols in N-N Dimthyl actamid dcrass [701]
