1 2 February 2016 Participants in the Proficiency Test THM 02/2016 Reference: Letter 5th November 2015 Enclosed we will distribute the samples for the Proficiency Test THM 02/2016. In total, 6 laboratories participate to the proficiency test. Therefore the test is organized as interlaboratory comparison study. If there is any sample container missing, broken or leaking, contact the organizer by proftest@environment.fi The synthetic sample A1T shall be reweighed without the aluminium foil by the PTparticipant immediately after receiving the samples in order to ensure that no evaporation has occured during the transportation. The weight shall be marked in Appendix 1. Please, compare the weight to initial weight marked on the sample label. If the difference is more than 1 %, please contact the organizer for the delivery of new sample. 3 4 Storing and analysing of the samples All samples should be stored cool (4 C) and stabilized to room temperature prior analysis. The samples should be analysed latest on 5 January 2016 according to the normal analytical procedures by the participant. All analysis should be performed as duplicate determinations (two results) and the both results should be reported. 5 Results and reporting The results for the proficiency test should be reported to Proftest SYKE latest on 10 February 2016 using the electronic result sheet. It is available on Proftest SYKE website: Current proficiency tests. The electronic result sheet has to be saved as excel-file on your computer hard disk before opening. On request (proftest@environment.fi) the electronic results sheet would be sent by . Only in special cases, the paper form using Appendix 2 is accepted. Please, report also the bottle number of sample container, the used analytical method, the measurement uncertainty of the used method as well as the approach used for the estimation of the measurement uncertainties. Instructions for filling the results sheet are given in the Appendix 3. Additional information of the used method is filled into the Methods page of the electronic result sheet (if necessary, also Appendix 4 could be used). Please describe shortly, when Other Method or Other equipment/technique is used. Results should be reported in requested units. The PT provider will not correct the erroneously reported results. Only in special cases, where amount of results will be too low for the statistical handlings, unit errors could be taken in account. The preliminary result lists will be distributed to the participants in the week 7 (2016) and the final report will be published on the Proftest website in May 2016 The participants will be informed when the final report is available. Additionally, the hard copy (paper print) of the final report can be ordered with the cost of Assigned value and performance evaluation The calculated concentration (synthetic samples) or the robust mean of the reported results (soil sample) will be used as the assigned value for the concentration of the analyte. The evaluation of the results will be based on z- scores. The target values of the standard deviation for proficiency assessment are for measurements in the synthetic sample A1T is 15 % and in the water samples D2T, U3T and U4T 25 %. 7 Confidentiality The results of the participants will be treated anonymous. 3/8

4 4/8 8 Costs The participation fee is 850. The price is subjected to VAT (0%). We will send out the invoice after the lists of the preliminary results. Additionally, the hard copy (paper copy) of the final report will cost 30, if participant will to have it. Additional samples costs 70 /each. Do not hesitate to ask if you need further information.
