1 RETROGRADE LOOPS OF MARS AND CELESTIAL PROPHECY TO ISRAEL (TIME-SENSITIVE MATERIAL) Dr. Dale M. Sides I have recently discovered some retrograde motions in the heavens 1 both current and past that appear to be directly related to the nation of Israel. Although the evidence seems obvious and undeniable, I will lay out the research so that you can examine it yourself and derive your own conclusions. The details of this may be a little technical for those not familiar with astronomy, so I will begin with a brief overview of what I have seen. On the evening of January 31, 2012, I was on my nightly prayer walk and reading the celestial Word of God in the heavens (Psalm 19:1). I had noticed Mars moving along the ecliptic path through Leo over the past couple of months, but that night it seemed to have stalled. When I returned home and booted up my NASA-approved astronomy computer program (Starry Night), I discovered that Mars was going into retrograde motion in Leo. In addition, there is a conjunction of Mars and Regulus (the king star) in Leo, which is also quite significant. As I examined these unusual events and others, I stumbled upon a mystery: the heavens are telling and fore t e l l i n g significant information about the political and military history of the nation of Israel. Beginning with the Balfour Declaration of 1917 and going forward to our present time, the following chart shows some of these prophetic occurrences. Israel s Significant Event The Balfour Declaration the official British government letter that favored an establishment in (what was then) Palestine of a national home for the Jewish people Israel officially restored as a nation and gains statehood Israel reclaims Temple Mount during the Six-Day War Date Issued November 2, 1917 May 14, 1948 June 5 10, 1967 Retrograde Loops of Mars and/or Conjunctions of Mars and Regulus Mars was in conjunction with Regulus (the king star) in Leo. Then it started a retrograde loop through Virgo/Leo in February As it was completing its retrograde loop, Mars was in conjunction with Regulus (the king star) in Leo. Mars was in a retrograde loop in Virgo. The Yom Kippur War October 6 25, 1973 Mars was in retrograde motion in Aries (the ram). Historic raid on the Entebbe, Uganda airport July 4, 1976 Mars was in conjunction with Regulus (the king star) in Leo. Potential war currently looming for Israel January April 2012 Mars is in retrograde motion through Leo, beginning January 26 and projected to last until April 12, with Passover on April 6. 2 Also of great significance is the fact that Mars was completing a retrograde loop in Capricorn when Jesus Christ was born on September 11, 3 BC. In each of these occurrences, Israel recognized a victory. Since Mars is in a retrograde loop right now through Leo (representing Israel), if you want to take a turn at the roulette wheel, I would say to put your money on Israel. If Mars was simply journeying through Leo, it would not be that significant astronomically; but the fact that it is in a retrograde loop means that it is remaining within Leo for a significant amount of time and this should catch our attention. The Christology of Mars and Leo combined with the astronomical phenomenon of a retrograde loop present an intriguingly accurate prophecy displayed in the heavens. Israel s military might becomes the most feared on the planet when they are protected by Yahweh. The heavens are indicating that He may be about to do this again; and if so, the history of previous times when Mars was in a retrograde loop (usually in Leo, although sometimes Virgo and Aries) bears witness that He will inevitability show up once again to rescue Israel in her distress. To understand what these retrograde loops are prophetically saying, we need to do the following: understand what comprises a retrograde motion, examine the Christology of Mars, and examine the Christology of the various constellations in which retrograde loops have occurred (specifically Leo and Virgo). Once we have honestly looked at these points, it will become evident that these celestial occurrences are truly God prophesying His support and protection of Israel. I am not an astrologer, and this is not astrology by any means. However, on a good day I could be considered an amateur biblical a s t ro n o m e r w h o specializes in Christological astronomy. Through the leading of the Holy Spirit, the knowledge of the written Scriptures, and the knowledge of the Christology of the heavens, these truths have been revealed to me, which deeply humbles me. I must also credit my good friend, David Scovel, who has researched this concept as well and added his insight to this work. My prayer is that this discovery can help Israel in its pursuit to fulfill prophecy and see the return of the promised Messiah. This knowledge gains value and significance as the Christology of Mars and Leo is coupled with the current military predicament and crossroads of Israel; and it should catch the eye of any supporter of Israel who desires to read the signs and seasons that God appointed through His placement of the stars and planets. In fact, I pray that it would find its way into the hands of the Israeli government, compliments of Yeshua. Then God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heavens to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs and seasons, and for days and years. Genesis 1:14 What is Retrograde Motion? Retrograde motion is actually an optical illusion that we observe from our earthly perspective. Each planet revolves around the sun at different speeds and since they are different distances from the sun, some of them complete their cycles quicker than others. Inevitably, one planet appears to overtake another in their cycle. When this happens, it seems that the slower-moving planet backs up just as a slower-moving car next to us appears to go backwards when we pass it on the highway. NOTE: The term direct motion describes a planet s normal, west-to-east path across the sky. The term retrograde motion describes a planet s backward, east-to-west path. 2

3 This reality has piqued my interest because Mars is currently in a retrograde loop in Leo and Israel appears to be on the brink of war. I find this quite prophetic and significant. Mars current prophetic declaration to Israel indicates that they are indeed going to war and the response of the Christian world is that we should be praying for them, for the purposes of God to be fulfilled. Image credit: introduction/05.motion_planets/ As a planet begins to retrograde, it appears to stop and then restart in the opposite direction until it stops again and heads back in its original direction. This trek results in a loop or circle, which we will call a retrograde loop. It is especially fascinating to track retrograde loops when we factor in the Christology of the planets and constellations that are involved. A retrograde loop speaks prophetically, according to the constellation(s) or other celestial bodies in its path. We can picture retrograde loops as circles drawn upon the backdrop of the constellations. The Significance of Mars Retrogrades Mars goes into a retrograde loop about every two years, so even though this is unusual, it is not extremely rare. However, the simultaneous events in Israel that occur during these Mars retrograde loops are what makes these astronomical occurrences sensational. This is the reason for this article and is the conclusion of my research. In checking the retrogrades of Mars that have occurred since May 14, 1948 (the founding date of modern Israel s statehood) and forward, I have discovered that significant military and political events have ensued during each one. I have checked the retrogrades of the other planets and believe that they are also prophetic. However, Mars, the red-colored planet, Christologically represents Yeshua the Warrior; and Israel s military history certainly appears to document this truth. The Christology of the Constellations and Planets From 1 Corinthians 15:40 and 41, we learn that each of the heavenly bodies has a different glory, or part of the Messiah s story; therefore, the Christology of a celestial body is the knowledge that it reveals of Messianic truths. There are also celestial bodies and terrestrial bodies; but the glory of the celestial is one, and the glory of the terrestrial is another. There is one glory of the sun, another glory of the moon, and another glory of the stars; for one star differs from another star in glory. 1 Corinthians 15:40 41 The Christology of the constellations is derived from their star names, specifically the major stars (Psalm 147:4 and Isaiah 40:26). The Christology of the planets is deduced from their Hebrew names, the order of their distance from the sun, and their physical descriptions from our viewpoint on Earth. NOTE: Again, please remember that we are not talking about the false belief system of astrology. Astrologers believe that the celestial spheres their positioning and their movement all have effects upon mankind. We are not talking about any effects upon mankind; rather, we are dealing specifically with prophetic messages that are speaking to us through the motion of these planets and the corresponding positioning of the related stars, according to Genesis 1:14. The Christology of Mars. Mars is the Hebrew name Madim which means the red one. 4 zeal basically showing what He is willing to fight and bleed for. Mars is also the fourth planet from the Sun (Mercury, Venus, Earth, and then Mars); and in Scripture, the number four shows involvement in the world. 2 Simply stated, Mars represents Yeshua the Warrior and His involvement in the world from that militant perspective. The Christology of whatever constellation Mars retrogrades through will show what He is (or was) battling for. The chart on page 1 shows I s r a e l s major historic/political events and Mars corresponding retrograde loops and the constellations they occurred in. In order to understand what these retrograde loops are saying, we must interpret the Christology of those constellations. 3 The Christology of Leo. The fact that Leo represents the Lion of the tribe of Judah makes it especially critical. This constellation is one of the 12 that makes up the mazzaroth (the Hebrew term for the group of constellations more commonly known as the zodiac), meaning that it is located within the ecliptic path of the sun. Its Christological representation of the Lion of the tribe of Judah comes from Genesis 49:9 10 and Revelation 5:5. Judah is a lion s whelp; from the prey, my son, you have gone up. He bows down, he lies down as a lion; and as a lion, who shall rouse him? The scepter shall not depart from Judah, nor a lawgiver from between his feet, until Shiloh comes; and to Him shall be the obedience of the people. Genesis 49:9 10 But one of the elders said to me, Do not weep. Behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the root of David, has prevailed to open the scrolls. Revelation 5:5 When this was prophesied to Jacob (as later recorded in Genesis 49:9 10), there were no written Scriptures. The only scriptures he had were those written in the heavens. These early patriarchs had an understanding of God s celestial Word and knew that Leo represented their promised messiah as a lion. Leo is the main constellation that represents Israel, with David (and eventually Yeshua) coming out of the lineage of the tribe of Judah. As the king of beasts, the lion also represents the kingly aspects of Yeshua, the King of kings. When the magi arrived in Jerusalem they asked, Where is He who is born King of the Judeans? At the time of Christ s birth (September 11, 3 BC) Mars was in a retrograde loop through Capricorn and Jupiter was in conjunction with Regulus (the king star) in Leo, already confirming Yeshua s relationship to His tribe (Judah)! Clearly, Leo is about the relationship of Yeshua with Israel. It is also interesting to see the prophecies of Balaam relative to the lion in Numbers 23:24; 24:9 and 24:17. Look, a people rises like a lioness, And lifts itself up like a lion; it shall not lie down until it devours the prey, and drinks the blood of the slain. Numbers 23:24 He bows down, he lies down as a lion; and as a lion, who will rouse him? Blessed is he who blesses you, and cursed is he who curses you. Numbers 24:9 I see Him, but not now; I behold Him, but not near; A Star shall come out of Jacob; A Scepter shall rise out of Israel, and batter the brow of Moab, and destroy all the sons of tumult. Numbers 24:17 What was prophesied is that those who blessed the lion would be blessed and those who cursed the lion would be cursed. These prophecies have remained relevant throughout the ages, and Mars retrogrades through Leo punctuate them even now as the Islamic nations that surround Israel are plotting her demise. Mars is presently in a retrograde loop in Leo as it was when Israel was restored as a nation on May 14, Leo represents the Lion of the tribe of Judah and shows Him even now as a conqueror ready to battle for His beloved Israel. 4

5 Revelation 5:5 asserts that the Lion of the tribe of Judah prevails to open the book and break the seals in the end times. This particular prophecy should catch our attention because it could be the precursor to the winter solstice of I have viewed several Jack Van Impe television shows in which he clearly states his belief that the 2012 winter solstice will initiate the Great Tribulation. If he is right, then the present retrograde loop of Mars in Leo could signal the beginning of the opening of the seals. Regardless, it is a definite prophetic sign that war will be coming to Israel and whoever is at war against her had better be warned. History bears out that when Mars is in a retrograde loop in Leo, Jesus is fighting for Israel. Mars goes into retrograde motion every two years; but since it is eventually continuing its course through the constellations, each constellation only gets Mars retrograde movement every years. As I looked up the key dates for Israel in the past century and checked the night skies of those dates, I discovered that Mars was in a retrograde loop or in conjunction with Regulus (the king star) in Leo on each one of those dates! Also, the constellation that it occurred in on each of those dates was prophesying of events in I s r a e l s history. This is more evidence of God s prophetic word written in the heavens. Genesis 1:14 says that the lights in the firmament are for signs and seasons and days and years. We will see that when Mars goes (or has gone) into a retrograde loop, especially in the constellations that deal with Israel, the ramifications are astounding. M a rs Current Retrograde Motion through Leo What I discovered on that evening in late January is that Mars was beginning its backwards trek through Leo. This current retrograde motion of Mars in Leo is prophesying that Yeshua the Warrior is going back to fight for the tribe of the lion, which represents the nation of Israel. This celestial prophecy should not be taken lightly, especially when you realize Israel s current military dilemma. In fact, on the day I finished the first draft of this paper, the news reported that a prominent Egyptian leader declared that they would be at war with Israel within three months. February 3, 2012 June 21, 2012 Leo Mars in Leo April 12, 2012 Notice that the retrograde is looping around the lion s heart; however, on April 12 it will appear to stop and then reverse its direction to finish the loop around the heart of the Lion of the tribe of Judah before it departs from Leo on June 21. Note: Starry Night is the NASA-initiated computer program I used for this study from which most of the illustrations were gleaned, as well as many of the others within the article. (No matter if you are a Buddhist, a Hindu, a Muslim, a Jew, or a Christian, Starry Night will spit out the same data.) Retrogrades of Mars Relative to the Nation of Israel In the beginning of this article, I presented a chart showing the six different times that Mars was in a retrograde loop or in conjunction with Regulus relative to significant events for Israel within the past 100 years. The details of each of these events are full of prophetic truth gleaned from the Christological symbolism of their corresponding celestial events. Before we discuss these more recent historic happenings, however, we will look at the birth of Christ. Then we will jump over to the early 1900s to look at the first of these modern occurrences within the last 100 years, which are as listed. 6 The Balfour Declaration in 1917 The founding of the nation of Israel in 1948 The reclaiming of the Temple Mount during the Six-Day War of 1967 The Yom Kippur War of 1973 The historic raid on the Entebbe, Uganda airport in 1976 The present state of Israel with potential war looming on the horizon, as of March 2012 Although this study centers upon the Mars retrograde loops, the night sky above the birth of Christ had other retrograde activities occurring too, i.e., Saturn was making a retrograde loop through Taurus during this time. The Birth of Christ September 11, 3 BC 5,6 life. That was the Christological message displayed in the night sky at the same time that Christ was being birthed on earth! Not only was this Mars retrograde loop occurring in Capricorn during His birth, but also Jupiter was in conjunction with Regulus (the king star) in Leo, showing that the king of the Judeans had been born; and Saturn was also in retrograde motion, making its loop through the head of Taurus the bull, or wild ox, showing Christ s sacrifice as the blood of the bullock was offered (Leviticus 16:14). These celestial events occurring on and around the birth of Christ clearly stated that He was (and is) King and that the Lord would later come in judgment to the nation of Israel after His sacrifice and resurrection. Now we will jump over to the most recent 100 years, beginning with the Balfour Declaration of The Balfour Decl a r a t i o n N ovember 2, April 17, 3 BC February 7, 1918 Capricorn Leo September 11, 3 BC November 2, 1917 October 9, 1917 October 13, BC Mars in Capricorn When we look at the ancient star names of Capricorn, we learn that this constellation shows the sacrificial goat on one side and the living fish on the other. During Christ s birth, Mars made a retrograde loop through Capricorn s heart. It circled the heart of the sacrificial scapegoat (Leviticus 16:8, 10 and 26) and the heart of the living fish, symbolic of the resurrection (Psalm 16:10). This was a message to Israel that symbolized that there would be a sacrifice for their sins that would then be resurrected or brought back to Mars in retrograde in Virgo/Leo Mars began its retrograde from Virgo into Leo in January 1918 and turned around in April to head back out of Leo. Although the Balfour Declaration was issued on November 2, 1917 (the very day that Mars was in conjunction with the king star Regulus in Leo), there was much heated discussion about it, including the Palestinian resistance that continued for a few years (and actually persists to this day). 7 What is interesting about the location of Mars within Leo/Virgo is that it is the beginning and ending point of the mazzaroth, according to E. W. Bullinger. 8 He cites the sphinx as ancient verification of this, with its 6

7 body of a lion (Leo) and its head of a woman (Virgo). Regardless, this was the retrograde loop that Mars made during this time, which kicked off the concept of Israel having its identity as a nation restored. Six-Day War Reclaiming the Temple Mount June 5 10, 1967 Israel Restored as a Nation May 14, 1948 October 7,1947 Virgo June 5,1967 Leo May 14, 1948 March 10, 1967 August 3,1967 Mars in retrograde in Virgo July 5, 1948 Mars in conjunction with Regulus (the king star) in Leo on May 14th Mars came into conjunction with Regulus (the king star) in Leo on the same day that modern day Israel was finally restored as a nation. This conjunction prophesied to the world that Yeshua ben Yahweh was fighting for Israel to become a nation, over which He would eventually be King. The fact that the conjunction occurred on the same date as Israel s restoration as a nation was way beyond happenstance. These are not things that humans can make happen; in truth, only God in His foreknowledge could have set up the heavens right from the start to proclaim this on that date. Mars then continued on its way to finish its retrograde loop through Leo in June Mars began its retrograde in Virgo in March 1967 and continued its backward trek through Virgo s womb until the approximate time of the Six-Day War. It then turned and headed out of Virgo, encircling the womb. In the Six-Day War, Israel gained control of the Temple Mount, ending the Gentiles control over it. This event, along with Israel s rebirth as a nation, was prophesied by Daniel almost 2500 years before. 9 Mars encirclement of Virgo s womb prophesied of modern day Israel s rebirth and subsequent rescue from Gentile control. While May 14, 1948 was the beginning of the national Israel, the Six-Day War was Israel s liberation, vindication, and validation as the true occupants of the Temple Mount. 8 accordingly. This is quite doubtful. What is believable, however, is that this war was planned by an enemy of Israel, just as the next event was, putting it out of Israel s control. The heavenly revelations of Israel s victory in these events were obviously pre-placed for their timed announcements by the Creator, Yahweh. Yom Kippur War of October 6 25, 1973 Aries November 26,1973 Mars was in conjunction with Regulus in Leo, just as it was on November 2, 1917 (the day the Balfour Declaration was issued) and on May 14, 1948 (the day Israel became a modern day nation). This raid to free the captive Israelis who were being held at the Entebbe Airport was a h u g e decisive victory for Israel. Benjamin Netanyahu s (Israel s current prime minister) older brother, Lt. Colonel Yo n a t h a n Netanyahu, was killed in that raid. This rescue was one of the most daring and successful counterattack operations in contemporary history. Mars (the messianic warrior) was in conjunction with Regulus (the king star) in Leo (the tribe of Judah) on that day, just as it was on Balfour Declaration Day and also on Independence Day for Israel. February 18, 1974 October 6, 1973 The Current Retrograde Loop of Mars January June 2012 Mars in retrograde in Aries February 3, 2012 Leo Mars began its retrograde motion through Aries and Pisces around September 25, 1973 and completed it by the middle of January Aries represents the ram (lamb) of God that was slain, but raised to reign (Revelation 5:6). During this time the lamb, Israel, was viciously attacked by Egypt and Syria (with the support of other Arab nations) in a collective force to destroy Israel from the south and the north, killing almost 2,800 Israelis. After the initial surprise of being attacked on Israel s holiest day of the year Yom Kippur/the Day of Atonement (October 6, 1973) she again witnessed the aid of Yeshua the Wa r r i o r (Christologically represented by Mars) as He brought about a decisive victory for Israel and humiliated Egypt and Syria. Ju ly 4, 1976 Historic Raid on the Entebbe, Uganda Airport 10 In 1976 there was another significant event in Israel s history that was apparently being prophesied in the heavens as it was happening. On July 4, 1976, June 21, 2012 Mars in Leo April 12, 2012 Mars current retrograde loop through Leo prophesies that Yeshua the Warrior is again coming to Israel s aid. With the present threats of Iran, Syria, Turkey and the confederacy of the Islamic nations named in Psalm 83 against them, this is good news. In the past, when Mars has previously been in retrograde loops in Leo, Israel has had decisive victories both politically and militarily. As Mars is presently in the same constellation, it leads me to believe that Israel is on the brink of war and that a decisive victory will come to them. 8

9 The Prophecies of Ezekiel 38 and 39? It is possible that the current retrograde loop of Mars could be preannouncing the fulfillment of a prophecy from Ezekiel 38 and 39. These chapters prophesy of a battle where the conglomerate armies of Gog and Magog will attack Israel s unwalled villages (Ezekiel 38:11). In this record, God s anger is displayed through a great earthquake as He sends forth His angel to decimate the surrounding enemy armies. I believe that the current retrograde loop in the first half of 2012 could possibly be a foreshadowing of this battle. More and more post-tribulation subscribers are rejecting the doctrine of a pre-tribulation gathering. If they are correct, then this battle must happen before the gathering of the church and the beginning of the millennial reign. This concept ought to be seriously pondered not only by Christians but also by those Jews who are looking for the fulfillment of this prophecy recorded in Ezekiel 38 and 39. What s Ahead? Some believe hindsight is 20/20, but I believe it is becoming easier and easier to look ahead in this computer age with its technological helps for astronomers (even amateur ones like me). If we look ahead at Mars and Leo by using the Starry Night astronomy program, we can see some interesting things developing that will make 2014 and 2015 star-studded years for both Mars and Leo. March 2014 Mars is in a retrograde loop in Vi rgo, coinciding with a lunar eclipse on Passover. Spring/summer 2015 Mars and Mercury are in triple conjunction, spanning three constellations (Aries, Taurus, and Gemini). Summer/fall 2015 Venus and Jupiter are in conjunction twice in Leo (June and October); August 7, 2015 Mercury, Jupiter, and Regulus are in conjunction in Leo. October 17, 2015 Mars and Jupiter are in conjunction in Leo. November 3, 2015 Venus and Mars are in conjunction just over the line from Leo. I owe a debt of gratitude to my long-time friend, associate, and stellar-fellar, David Scovel, who has confirmed my findings. He too has looked ahead by using the Starry Night program to see what combinations of Mars and Leo can be found in the future night skies and for any other unusual celestial occurrences that could show up in the next few years, including sequences of eclipses on the holy feast days of Israel in the years 2014 and Conclusion The occurrence of Mars retrograde loops corresponding with Israel s historic victories over these past 100 years or so (as well as its conjunctions with Regulus, the king star, in Leo and also the celestial events of the birth of Christ) cannot be ignored or explained as happenstance. I began writing this article over the weekend of February 25 26, It will be interesting to look back at some point to see if anything earthshaking happened in Israel during this time. My stance is this: the celestial Word of God in the heavens is prophesying that the Lord is going to fight for Israel. It certainly appears that the world stage is set for a showdown between Israel and many of the Islamic nations, stemming back to the unresolved issues between Jacob and Esau. The ink on Psalm 83 seems as if it were still wet. Read it to see what I mean. Also read Ezekiel 38 and 39 to see if it bears witness in you too that this time may soon be approaching us. It would be a good idea to keep a keen eye on Israel and pray for her fervently. I believe that the Creator of the heavens and the earth is announcing that something is about to take place in Israel and that the Lord Jesus Christ is going to fight for her much to the dismay of her enemies which is a very good thing since the Bible prophesies that all the nations of the world will turn against her. 10 will be surrounded with no hope but to call on Hosanna to come and rescue them. And He is waiting for them to call for Him to come. For I say to you, you shall see Me no more till you say, Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord! Matthew 23:39 The 2012 retrograde motion of Mars from February 3 to its turnaround on April 12 (close to Passover) and its subsequent departure from Leo on June 21 has a word to speak. If the other retrograde loops of Mars mentioned in this article have any prophetic significance, as they appear to, then we should not be surprised to see a large upheaval against Israel in that time frame. 8.
