Maths Our focus will be on Number Place value, Negative numbers, Rounding, Addition and Subtraction. Below is a break down. Number and place value - read, write, order and compare numbers to at least and determine the value of each digit - count forwards or backwards in steps of powers of 10 for any given number up to interpret negative numbers in context, count forwards and backwards with positive and negative whole numbers, including through zero - round any number up to to the nearest 10, 100, 1000, and solve number problems and practical problems that involve all of the above - read Roman numerals to 1000 (M) and recognise years written in Roman numerals Number addition and subtraction - add and subtract whole numbers with more than 4 digits, including using formal written methods (columnar addition and subtraction) - add and subtract numbers mentally with increasingly large numbers - use rounding to check answers to calculations and determine, in the context of a problem, levels of accuracy - solve addition and subtraction multi-step problems in contexts, deciding which operations and methods to use and why

Literacy We will be reading and discussing The Lottie Project with the focus on pupils understanding what they have read by: checking that the book makes sense to them, discussing their understanding and exploring the meaning of words in context asking questions to improve their understanding drawing inferences such as inferring characters feelings, thoughts and motives from their actions, and justifying inferences with evidence Pupils will also plan their writing by: describing settings, characters and atmosphere and integrating dialogue to convey character and advance the action considering how authors have developed characters and settings in what they have read, listened to or seen performed

Topic Ancient Egypt After pupils have had the opportunity to present their summer project to the class, we will be discussing the achievements of earlier civilizations; under the following topics: The importance of the Nile River the Ancient Egyptians Examination of the pharaohs and why they were so important Hieroglyphics Developing an understanding of Ancient Egyptian spiritual beliefs and rituals.

Science Earth, Moon and Sun We will be discussing and investigating aspects of the solar system that help pupils to: - describe the movement of the Earth, and other planets, relative to the Sun in the solar system - describe the movement of the Moon relative to the Earth - describe the Sun, Earth and Moon as approximately spherical bodies - use the idea of the Earth s rotation to explain day and night and the apparent movement of the sun across the sky

The Astronomy Roadshow workshop will be an exit point to this topic.

Physical Education Swimming and Cricket We will have swimming lessons at the Royal Russell Pool every Tuesday. Our other P.E session for cricket will be on Thursdays.

Religious Education Sikhism What do Sikhs believe about God? What are the significant times in the life of Guru Nanak? How did Guru Nanak spread his teachings? Where do Sikhs go to worship? How do the practices in the Gurdwara symbolise equality? What is the inspirational writing that Sikhs follow? We will take a trip to the Croydon Gurdwara for pupils to experience at first-hand how Sikhs worship.
