1 N e w s l e t t e r February 2013 Issue 1 President s Report Season s Greetings - Welcome to the Summer edition of AANSW newsletter orbits. I would like to on behalf AANSW members wish all well for this summer break is the Chinese year of the Water Snake, which would suggest a year we could undergo transformation on a very deep emotional level. Our guest speaker for December was Thomas Muldoon. Tom s topic was The Blame Game. Tom is an internationally recognised Numerologist, widely published author/writer and Astrologer. Four decades of numerology research has resulted in his fourth book, which is self published: Numerology for the 21st Century in He creates websites, maintains a Newsletter/Bulletin for his readers - keeping everyone informed via his blogs. On behalf of AANSW members we thank you Tom for presenting a lively discussion on Venus and how to best use her for our New Year resolutions and beyond. Following our Thomas, the members were treated to food, drinks and Christmas celebrations. It was a very enjoyable afternoon for members and guests who over lovely lunch where able to catch up and meet new people in the group. A big thank you must go to the Committee for the selfless effort in allowing 2012 to be another succuss. So please come along to our warm and friendly venue and share in an afternoon of astrological interchange with like-minded people. The venue is Drummoyne Community Centre, 10 Cometrowe Street, Drummoyne and doors open at 1:15pm on the 2nd Saturday of the month (except Jan). AANSW President Gregory Clare PS. Lynda and Gary have found that the two systems blend and work together extremely well. Lynda is hosting Gary at her home in Suffolk Park, Byron Bay. Gary Goldschneider is a bestselling author of seven astrology books. His first book, The Secret Language of Birthdays, has become a classic. Gary s ability to interpret birthdays is extraordinary - he has the entire 365 days memorised. Come and learn how he came up with the system described in his enormously popular birthday book. Gary's interest in astrology stems from his time at Yale Medical School when he picked up a copy of astrologer Grant Lewis book Heaven Knows What. He found the 144 sun-moon sign personalities described by Lewis revealed knowledge of human psychology far beyond that of his psychiatry teachings at the medical school. It seemed to Gary at the time, the 12 signs, viewed as personality types, were the most profound classification of people was the most insightful to date. 3

4 Gary, since the age of 5, was intensely interested in birthdays - birthdays of his parents (who were both born January 1, 1913), almost at the same moment, birthdays of famous composers and musicians, then later of writers, politicians, friends, family, teachers, associates. Biographies particularly interested him. Gary s birthday collecting became the basis of his "Personology System", together with the 12 personality astrological sun-sign types. Gary has drawn on his academic study of literature and psychiatry, but in the two areas in which he has excelled and achieved worldwide fame - astrology & music - he is almost entirely self-taught. 5 CHRIS TURNER 9 TH MARCH THE ALIENS AMONG US Autism! It s a word that strikes fear in every parent s heart. And it seems to be on the increase. More and more children are being diagnosed with this broad spectrum condition, from severe Autism to the high functioning Asperger s Syndrome and Pervasive Development Disorder Not Otherwise Specified. In this lecture I will try and show how this is indicated in the chart, possible connections to the parents and/or HDD, and how to use astrology to deal with it Chris Turner has been around long enough to have done everything from having a successful practice, writing books, directing a school, lecturing all over the world, and being very active in the Federation of Australian Astrologers, and AFAN. Currently semi-retired, she teaches for the International Academy of Astrology and moderates the Conjunction astrology group. Frank s Frank was a very popular speaker at the 2012 FAA Astrology Conference in Melbourne and is returning in April 2013 to tour Australia. 8 Speakers Report Thomas Muldoon 8 th December 12 The Blame Game Our speaker for December was Tom Muldoon who began his presentation The Blame Game with the remark Now we re going to have some fun with astrology! The problem with Astrologers is that we tend to blame our charts for most of our problems he added. We will tell others that I have Mars in its detriment, or that I have too many oppositions etc, or that Mercury is retro grade. Turn to the person next to you he said, and tell them it s their fault! Now, he continued Each person has to convince the person next to you that they are the best sign in the zodiac. Imagine someone who goes to an astrologer for the first time. The astrologer emphasises the good points of the person s chart and may sugar-coat other, less beneficial aspects. The Astrologer may say things such as: Oh I see you have Mars in the seventh house, so you may be heated in relationships and you have Venus in the twelfth house so you may have secret love affairs or you have Jupiter in the second house, you must be lucky with money or oh I see you have a hearty appetite, and you have Neptune in the ninth house, you must be a very spiritual person! The client leaves now feeling inspired and ready to take on the world. The point Tom was making to the audience is that we should focus on our good points and be positive rather than dwell on our negative aspects and blame the stars! Tom is also a noted numerologist and pointed out that next year, 2013 adds down to the number 6. The number 6 indicates that it will be a Venus ruled year and as such we should focus our New Year s resolution on its initial position in Sagittarius. Therefore, Aries Sun signs should look to the ninth house, perhaps consider overseas travel, other studies or writing a book? For Taureans, the eighth house, should go for it as Tom put it, or tell someone you love them. Geminis, the seventh house, should focus on partnerships, legal matters or contracts. Cancerians, should concentrate on the sixth house and tell themselves I will prioritise, eat right etc (and forget about everybody else). For Leos, it s the fifth house. They should look to their own creativity, be spontaneous, and take some risks! Virgos need to consider the forth house. Perhaps renovate or redecorate their home. Maybe even have some babies? For Librans, it s the third house. Therefore, communication issues, moving about, travel (or buying a new car). 8

9 Scorpios need to consider the second house and as Venus is involved Tom suggested checking their diet, or eating right. For Sagittarians, it s the first house. Dress to impress, be yourself. Everybody else is taken as Tom put it. Capricorns, need to consider the twelfth house. Don t drink on New Year s Eve Tom said and go on a retreat in 2013! Aquarians should look to the eleventh house, meet new people and make new friends. For Pisceans, it s the tenth house (remembering that Neptune is in Pisces), and may wish to consider a new career! With the temptation of aromatic food and treats on nearby tables for our Christmas Party beckoning, Tom concluded his presentation by saying Don t forget the most important person in 2013 is you! Gary Curci S.A.R.S is proud to present Robyn Lee who'll be giving us a talk on the Asteroid Goddess Hygieia (Health and Hygiene) What is this 'radiant' Greek goddess doing with a snake? And why? And where did the snake come from? Is it 'clean'? And what does this mean for us 'moderns'? In this talk I will look at the historical and mythic origins of Hygieia and how this relates to our contemporary medical, philosophical and spiritual health and well-being. In astrology/astronomy there are the beautiful 'coincidences and synchronicities' that appear at the time of an Asteroid's discovery. Hygieia's discovery 'timing' informs us and our psyche's that 'she' is something more meaningful than a rock in the sky. My hope is this talk will offer some added 'mystery and clarity' to that 'well-spring' point in your chart called Hygieia. Robyn Lee (ex Reg. Nurse) has been in private practice as a counselling Astrologer since 1988 and is a practitioner and foundation member of the Association of Professional Astrologers (APA). Robyn moved to Sydney in 2012 from Western Australia. In WA she taught, lectured and facilitated workshops in astrology as well as experiential Asteroid Goddess workshops. She also began her ongoing interest in Jungian psychology, mythology and symbolism, through initially attending the C.G. Jung study group in Perth for 7 years and is now currently a life Member of the Perth and Sydney C.G. Jung Societies. Robyn grew up in country south island of New Zealand where the seasonal cycles were clearly demarcated and the beautiful and fascinating starry night sky was crystal clear. 9

10 Changes to the FAA Diploma Examination Structure (implemented 2013) It was agreed at the 2012 FAA National Council meeting that the Relational (Synastry / Composite) aspect of astrological study belongs in the Advanced Exam. It takes a considerable amount of study and practice to be able to work with expertise within this area. The removal of this question from the Interpretation paper allows the Interpretation Exam greater variation to increase its range of questions based on the delineational techniques involved in astrological practice. It was also been agreed to that the overall pass mark for all exams as of 2013 will sit at 60%. The 4 module exam system will remain as it is yet the internal structures of both the Interpretation and Advanced Techniques Exams will change and will be implemented in Changes to be implemented in 2013: 1. The Advanced Techniques Exam will be renamed the Relationship and Specialist Techniques Exam 2. The relational (Synastry / Composite) question will move from the Interpretation Exam to the Relationship and Specialist Techniques Exam The Interpretation Exam will include a new section based on short answer delineational questions. 4. The number of specialist techniques essays will reduce from 5 in the former Advanced Techniques Exam to 3 essays in the Relationship and Specialist Techniques Exam 5. The overall pass mark for all exams ((Interpretation, Calculation, Dynamic and Relationship & Specialist Techniques Exams) will sit at 60% as of 2013 NEW LOOK EXAMS Interpretation Exam 2013 Section 1: Three 1,000 words short answers on delineational techniques from a choice of 5 questions based on one anonymous chart. The focus is on a candidate s knowledge of the interpretative components within a chart. Section 2: Two psychological / consultation style essays (2 x 2,500 words) from a choice of three questions each from a different scenario. (Unchanged) Relationship and Specialist Techniques Exam 2013 (formerly Advanced Techniques Exam): Section 1: A compulsory pass 3,000 word essay on Relationship techniques including synastry and composite chart interpretation from a choice of two questions and, Section 2: Three essays of 1,500 words each answered from an array of questions covering the diversity of specialist areas of astrological study. This revised structure aims to make the system more attainable to students wishing to sit for their national qualification. The quality and content of the examination process will be maintained in regard to this Diploma being a certification for professional practice level.
