Grid to LandGrid Volumetrics Workflow Petra User Group Session Series Armin Schafer Technical Advisor Petra/Kingdom/GeoSyn/LogArc Encana Amphitheatre Nov 22, 2011 noon 1 pm
PURPOSE: to demonstrate the capabilities, opportunities, and benefits for using the Volumetric Shapefile Output within PETRA Niche Samples Geological or Engineering Data from Well Points (Grid Nodes) to Polygon Areas (Sections, Leases, ) Copyright 2011 IHS Inc. All Rights Reserved. 2
Getting Started Using Accumap to create Land Grid Shapefiles with Working Interest column Importing Land Grid Shapefiles (3 Options Explained) Computing Volumetrics or Z Averages out to a Shapefile Volumetric Report Results Importing / Reloading the Volumetrics Shapefile into Petra Thematic Mapper Class Breaks Send to Petra Map Integrated Display and Comparison Copyright 2011 IHS Inc. All Rights Reserved. 3
Getting Started Generate Isopach Grid Generate Isopach Grid (PCGP-SPRV in this example for the Peace River Area (T97R4W6M)) in Petra. Copyright 2011 IHS Inc. All Rights Reserved. 4
Using Accumap to create Land Shapefile Using Accumap - Create Land List CNRL for this example - Ask Question, select Land type eg Land:Crown for this example, then lookup Land Company and select the companies. Click on OK, Find Answer. Copyright 2011 IHS Inc. All Rights Reserved. 5
Using Accumap to create Land Shapefile Select a color for the Display Attribute of Answer and click on ok. The land list is now displayed. Click on Save Answer to List to save a Well List and attach to map. Copyright 2011 IHS Inc. All Rights Reserved. 6
Using Accumap to create Land Shapefile Go to Detail Map Land Lists Spreadsheet Export. Export out the Land List as a CSV File (AccuMap Format) Copyright 2011 IHS Inc. All Rights Reserved. 7
Using Accumap to create Land Shapefile Save the CSV File and open the CSV file in XL. To start the Interest Holders column has the working interest, C or S, and the Interest Holder Company all in the one column. Copyright 2011 IHS Inc. All Rights Reserved. 8
Using Accumap to create Land Shapefile Create a new column for working interest and copy the interest holders column into it. Edit the new Working interest column so that it contains only the Working Interest number. Then remove all but the Interest Holder from its column and edit out the other companies that you are not interested in. Copyright 2011 IHS Inc. All Rights Reserved. 9
Using Accumap to create Land Shapefile Go to Tools Import Manager select Shapefiles Copyright 2011 IHS Inc. All Rights Reserved. 10
Using Accumap to create Land Shapefile Import the edited.csv file, click on next to select the output file name. Click on next, Confirm your selection and click on next again to output the shapefile. Copyright 2011 IHS Inc. All Rights Reserved. 11
Importing Land Shapefile into Petra Could Import Shapefile as Cartographic Data into Petra, but this does not enable quick volumetric calculations Copyright 2011 IHS Inc. All Rights Reserved. 12
Importing Land Shapefile into Petra Better option is to use Overlays Import Shape Files, this allows the assigning of Volumetrics Name and Working Interest under the Volumetrics Tab. Copyright 2011 IHS Inc. All Rights Reserved. 13
Importing Land Shapefile into Petra Assign Name and Working Interest for under the Volumetrics tab Copyright 2011 IHS Inc. All Rights Reserved. 14
Importing Land Shapefile into Petra Land List is now an overlay layer in Petra, with Parcel and working interest labeled. Copyright 2011 IHS Inc. All Rights Reserved. 15
Importing Land Shapefile into Petra Working interests should now be correct, but if necessary you can easily adjust working Interest for the land overlay layer for the entire layer Copyright 2011 IHS Inc. All Rights Reserved. 16
Importing Land Shapefile into Petra Working interests should now be correct, but if necessary you can edit working interests for individual land polygons. Simply double click on polygon using Red Select Item Arrow and change the Working Interest under the Volm tab for the Overlay Line Attributes. Copyright 2011 IHS Inc. All Rights Reserved. 17
Computing Volumetrics Generate Volumetrics Report From a Grid File make sure that only the appropriate land polygons are displayed in the Map Module Copyright 2011 IHS Inc. All Rights Reserved. 18
Computing Volumetrics Print average value for each polygon and write volumes to a Shape file Copyright 2011 IHS Inc. All Rights Reserved. 19
Computing Volumetrics Volumetrics Output can be 3 different formats: 1) a.txt file 2) a.csv file Copyright 2011 IHS Inc. All Rights Reserved. 20
Computing Volumetrics Volumetrics Output can also be 3) a.dbf file (linked to a shapefile) Copyright 2011 IHS Inc. All Rights Reserved. 21
GRID TO LAND GRID VOLUMETRICS WORKFLOW Reloading of Volumetrics Shapefile into PETRA Browse and import the shapefile into PETRA s Thematic Mapper or GIS or any application that can handle shapefiles
GRID TO LAND GRID VOLUMETRICS WORKFLOW Reloading of Volumetrics Shapefile into PETRA Use the Class Breaks option to choose which numeric field from the columns in the.dbf file prior you would like to color
GRID TO LAND GRID VOLUMETRICS WORKFLOW Reloading of Volumetrics Shapefile into PETRA Click on the color button and define your class breaks and colors to match your isopach grid colors and increment
GRID TO LAND GRID VOLUMETRICS WORKFLOW Reloading of Volumetrics Shapefile into PETRA The Class Breaks now match the Isopach with 8 classes and increments of 5.
GRID TO LAND GRID VOLUMETRICS WORKFLOW Reloading of Volumetrics Shapefile into PETRA A preview of the results is now shown in Thematic Mapper now click the Send to Petra Icon
GRID TO LAND GRID VOLUMETRICS WORKFLOW Reloading of Volumetrics Shapefile into PETRA Include the legend (text size for the legend is modifiable) Define the layer that the shapefile theme is to be sent to Petra
GRID TO LAND GRID VOLUMETRICS WORKFLOW Final Display of Sectional Volumes in PETRA The class break style of grid is now shown
GRID TO LAND GRID VOLUMETRICS WORKFLOW Final Display of Sectional Volumes w/ INTEGRATED MAP Here s a hint at the integrated maps that can be generated notice how contours are shown and labeled
GRID TO LAND GRID VOLUMETRICS WORKFLOW Comparison back to Original Grid Back to a comparison to the original map
Petra Grid to Land Grid Volumetrics BENEFITS: Major Time Savings! Impresses Management and Land Teams! Can be incorporated into GIS databases (PETRA ArcGIS Plug-In also available for more benefits) Copyright 2011 IHS Inc. All Rights Reserved. 31
