1 shop online tree and shrub fertilisiers composts and fertilisers Natural Solutions is a range of mostly organic products designed to give healthy plant growth and reclaim damaged soils without resource to artificial chemical (salt based) fertilisers and pesticides. Natural Solutions creates and maintains a rich, diverse microflora in the soil, which naturally improves fertility and inhibits plant disease. All micro-organisms used in the Natural Solutions range are naturally occurring and harmless to humans and animals. None are genetically engineered. They include a very wide range of beneficial soil bacteria, antagonistic fungi and mycorrhizal fungi. The organic based materials used provide plant life with everything needed for healthy growth and provide soil micro-organisms with everything needed to promote a healthy living soil, with beneficial effects on the environment. In choosing Natural Solutions you will achieve the very best results from all forms of plant life, protecting and enhancing the environment. MYCORRHIZAE Mycorrhizae products are an important tool in ensuring plant success in a number of situations. Mycorrhizal fungi are a vital essential in root development, water and plant nutrient uptake by roots, but are frequently missing from new soils, compacted soils and growing media. Mycorrhizae physically improve soil structure around plant roots either by separating clay platelets or by clumping sand particles. They also contribute to plant health by supporting other beneficial soil organisms such as nutrient fixing bacteria and develop a natural zone of resistance to disease around the roots of plants. (See picture). These products should always be used in certain situations where Mycorrhiza is lacking: l l l l In all construction sites where the soil has been disturbed and organic matter is probably inadequate. In all sterile media conditions, where the plants going in haven t been exposed to Mycorrhiza. This is mostly when potting up in the nursery. Wherever expensive trees and ornamentals are stressed, Mycorrhizal inoculation is a sensible insurance policy. Senescent oaks and maples, chlorotic oaks and conifers, early leaf drop due to drought conditions, root damage due to trenching near urban trees... these are all situations where Mycorrhiza can be added at a modest cost compared to replacement value of the trees. Dryer and warmer summers seems to be the normal weather cycle for us these days. Mycorrhiza can help increase the water uptake of plants so you escape the two choices of brown plants or continual watering. Our Mycorrhizae products let you treat every plant in every situation with the right Mycorrhiza. 28

3 TECHNICAL HOTLINE tree and shrub fertilisiers composts and fertilisers MYCORRMAX COMPOST Tameside Britain in Bloom 2009 This year we are especially proud of our achievements in the North West in Bloom competition, winning the best Metropolitan Borough Council for the fifth year running gaining gold medal standards once again. Also, due to the high amount of points we achieved, this qualifies us to compete in the 2010 Britain in Bloom National competition. We have raised our game year on year when it comes to horticultural excellence and in particular our floral bedding displays. A large part of this quality and excellence from these displays are in my opinion down to the treatment of our flower gardens and beds with Mycorrmax soil conditioner supplied by ALS. It s all in the preparation as the saying goes! In preparation of planting displays I have been adding Mycorrmax to the beds for the past five seasons with spectacular results! The quality of our bedding is superb, plants are stronger and bigger, flowers seem to be brighter and more vibrant and the soil is easier to work, it maintains a good structure and helps to retain moisture content in soil.. rocket fuel for plants it surely is! As a gardener I have absolutely no hesitation in recommending this product for excellent results, the timing of the application is critical, ie. when the product is at its most potent, but if adhered to the results are top class. Mark S Porter, Operations Supervisor/ Head Gardener, Stamford Park Tameside MBC ALS Natural Solutions Mycorrmax planting compost is a first class soil conditioner and planting compost for the planting of trees, shrubs & bedding plants. It is a non peat based compost consisting of a blend of recycled green waste and fine composted bark to produce a friable open compost ideal for the professional landscaper. Screened and graded to a 6mm sieve, the compost is then blended with an organic fertiliser, bio-stimulants & mycorrhizae. The neutral to slightly acid ph makes this compost ideal for most landscaping and reclamation projects, with the exception of acidic loving plants which require a low ph to thrive. 30

4 ALS THE ONE-STOP PLANTING PRODUCTS SHOP Application rates: Apply Mycorrmax at 30L per m 2 to a maximum depth of 75mm & incorporate into your soil for maximum results. For tree & shrub planting pits, mix with soil prior to back filling to improve soil structure, fertility & bio diversity. FACT - 90% of all the worlds plants & grass roots have associations with mycorrhizae fungi. FACT - mycorrhizae fungi massively increase root absorption capacity. FACT mycorrhizae fungi improve uptake of nutrients & water to trees, shrubs, turf & bedding plants. Mycorrmax and Transplant-1-Step has proved to be invaluable to us over the years, especially on cold exposed sites where large planting stock can so easily go into shock and fail to establish. The Mycorrhiza products have certainly had a very positive effect on our planting success and without doubt has increased our tree survival rates. We create new gardens and woodlands all over Britain, and Mycorrmax TPMC always goes with us.
