1 emerature deendence of electrical conductivity and dileton rates from hot quenched lattice QCD arxiv: v [he-lat] 9 Dec 203 and Marcel Müller Fakultät für Physik, Universität Bielefeld, D-3365 Bielefeld, Germany okacz@hysik.uni-bielefeld.de We resent new results on the continuum extraolation of the vector current correlation function in the deconfined hase for three temeratures close to the critical temerature utilizing quenched clover imroved Wilson fermions and light quark masses. A systematic analysis on multile lattice sacing allows to erform the continuum limit of the correlation function and to extract sectral roerties in the continuum limit. hese results rovide constraints for the electrical conductivity and the thermal dileton rates in the quark gluon lasma for the given temerature range. In addition results on the continuum extraolation at finite momenta related to thermal hoton rates are resented. 3st International Symosium on Lattice Field heory - LAICE 203 July 29 - August 3, 203 Mainz, Germany Seaker. c Coyright owned by the author(s) under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike Licence. htt://os.sissa.it/

Introduction hermally roduced diletons and hotons are imortant exerimental observables to study the the quark gluon lasma medium roduced in current heavy-ion-exeriments at LHC and RHIC []. Both quantities are related to the vector meson sectral function and therefore indirectly to the vector correlation function. he energy regime of the current exerimental studies requires non-erturbative ab initio lattice QCD calculations. he results resented in this article extend our revious studies [2, 3, 4] where we erformed the continuum extraolation of the vector meson correlation function for the first time at a temerature of / =.45 in the quenched aroximation using non-erturbatively clover imroved Wilson fermions. Here we will discuss the temerature deendence of the electrical conductivity and dileton rates obtained from continuum extraolated correlation functions at temeratures of, and Vector correlation function he Euclidean time two-oint correlation function G(τ, ) of the vector current J µ is a quantity directly accessible in lattice QCD calculations, G µν (τ, ) = d 3 xj µ (τ, x)j ν(0, 0)e i x with J µ (τ, x) = q(τ, x)γ µ q(τ, x). (2.) Only contributions of quark line connected diagrams are included. Disconnected diagrams cause a high numerical effort and are exected to be small in the high temerature hase of QCD [5, 6]. he correlation function directly relates to the sectral function via dω G H (τ,, ) = 0 2π ρ cosh(ω(τ /2 )) H(ω,, ) sinh(ω/2 ) with: H = 00,ii,V. Here ρ ii denotes a sum over the satial comonents and ρ 00 denotes the time-like comonents which is related to the quark number suscetibility. he full vector sectral function is denoted by ρ V = ρ 00 + ρ ii. 2. Ansatz for the sectral function he time-like comonent of the vector correlator G 00 and thereby the corresonding sectral function ρ 00 is related to the quark number suscetibility. Since the quark number is conserved, the correlator is constant in (here Euclidean) time, G 00 ( ) = and its sectral reresentation is given by a delta function ρ 00 (ω) = 2π ωδ(ω). (2.3) he satial comonents of the sectral functions increase quadratically for large values of ω, in the free field limit for massless quarks to ρ free ii (ω) = 2π 2 ωδ(ω) + 3 2π ω2 tanh(ω/4 ). (2.4) In this limit, the delta eak in the satial and the time-like comonent of the sectral function cancel. However with interactions this is not the case. he time-like comonent maintains a delta eak since it is linked to the conserved current, but in the satial comonent the delta eak is smeared out and exected to be described by a Breit-Wigner eak [7, 8, 9, 0], ρii interac. ωγ 3 (ω) = c BW ω 2 + ( + κ) + (Γ/2) 2 2π ω2 tanh(ω/4 ). (2.5) his henomenologically insired Ansatz leaves three arameters, the strength (c BW ) and width (Γ) of the Breit-Wigner eak as well as κ, which accounts for the deviation from free theory (see [, 2] for similar Ansätze). he relation of this Ansatz to the correlator obtained on the lattice is given by (2.2). 3
4 σ C em / /.4.5 Figure 3: emerature deendence of the electrical conductivity. Errors are obtained from the systematic error analysis (for details see [2]). he fits are not erformed directly to the correlation function G ii but the ratio of the correlation function normalized by the quark number suscetibility (as given in (2.3)) to become indeendent of any renormalization and by the free field correlation function GV free ( ), yielding a smooth function that does not fall off over multile decades like the correlation function. Furthermore, due to asymtotic freedom, the correlation function should aroach the non-interacting limit at asymtotically small distances. he sectral function is thereby fitted to reroduce G ii ( )/G 00 GV free ( )/Gfree 00. Having obtained the sectral function, relevant roerties of the medium can be calculated, e.g. the electrical conductivity as 4

(2.8) 3. Results for correlators and sectral function fits We have calculated vector correlation functions using non-erturbatively clover-imroved Wilson fermion on a set of quenched gauge field configurations stated in ab.. For each temerature three lattice sacings were used in order to erform the continuum limit. While the results of [2] were obtained on a fixed satial lattice of N σ = 28, recent results were calculated at fixed asect ratio of N σ /N τ = 3.00 for and N σ /N τ = 3.43 at and therefore at a fixed hysical volume. his set-u allows for a continuum extraolation also at finite momenta for the two lowest temeratures. In Fig. the results of the vector correlation function G ii ( ) for (left) and (right) are shown together with the corresonding continuum extraolations. All results are normalized by the free non-interacting correlation function, G free, lat V ( ), and with the quark number suscetibility,, to remove any renormalization constants. While the results on finite lattices show strong cut-off effects at all distances and a wrong rising behavior towards small distances, the continuum extraolations are well behaved down to distances around 0.. he band shows the result and systematic error of the fit using the Ansatz (2.5). he rise of these ratios towards the mid-oint can be identified as a first indication for a transort contribution. he resulting sectral functions using the Ansatz (2.5) are shown in Fig. 2 (left) and the dileton rates obtained from (2.8) in Fig. 2 (right). Both results are comared to a dileton sectrum calculated within the hard thermal loo aroximation [3]. In the limit of vanishing ω one can 5

For a comarison with results from calculations with dynamical quarks on finite lattices see [4, 5]. 4. Vector correlation function at non-vanishing momenta For the two lowest temeratures, and, the vector correlation functions for the three lattice sacings were calculated at a fixed asect ratio of N σ /N τ. his allows to erform the continuum extraolation also for non-vanishing momenta,. In Fig. 4 and Fig. 5 the results for the vector correlation functions in the transversal (left) and longitudinal (right) olarization channel at a temerature of are shown. While for the longitudinal channel no momentum deendence is observed within the errors, the transversal channel shows a ronounced -deendence which is weak at small searations but becomes stronger at larger distances towards the mid-oint. his behavior can qualitatively be interreted in the context of the small-frequency behavior of the two channels in the leading-log Boltzmann aroximation [0]. In the limit of ω 0 the transverse sectral function ρ (ω, )/ω is non-vanishing for all momenta, while it is zero in the longitudinal olarization, ρ (ω, )/ω, for all non-vanishing momenta. his leads to a different -deendence of the low-frequency region which results in a different deendence on momenta of the correlation functions at large distances and a more ronounced -deendence in the transversal channel. Due to asymtotic freedom one exects that both channels aroach each other at small distances. Based on these observations, the different behavior in the transversal and longitudinal olarization can qualitatively be understood, but for a more detailed understanding the sectral roerties need to be determined in the future. For a comarison of our continuum extraolated vector correlation function at non-vanishing momenta with a erturbative NLO calculation see [6]. 6
7 5. Conclusion Continuum results for the vector current correlation functions in the temerature ranges /.4 were resented. Using a rather simle, henomenologically insired Ansatz for the vector sectral function and a careful analysis of the systematic uncertainties, this sheds light into the temerature deendence of the electrical conductivity and dileton rates in an energy regime currently accessible in heavy-ion exeriments. he continuum extraolated vector correlation function at non-vanishing momenta show a qualitatively different behavior in the transversal and longitudinal olarization. he results allow for study of the sectral roerties and determination of the hoton rates in the future. Acknowledgment he results have been achieved by using the PRACE Research Infrastructure resource JU- GENE based at the Jülich Suercomuting Centre in Germany and the Bielefeld GPU-cluster resources. his work has been artly suorted by the IRG/GRK 88 "Quantum Fields and Strongly Interacting Matter".
