More extensive coastal inundation Increased coastal erosion (e.g. due to storm intensity and/or frequency, ENSO etc.) More severe storm surge flooding Saltwater intrusion into estuaries and freshwater aquifers Altered tidal ranges Changes in sedimentation patterns Impact to jetties & other coastal structures Note: These impacts will vary regionally as well as locally

35 Options for Hazard Mitigation Let nature take its course (i.e. do nothing!) Construct a conventional coastal engineering structure e.g. sea wall, rip rap revetment, or offshore breakwater Beach renourishment Construct a cobble berm/dynamic revetment Adopt coastal hazard setback (no build) zones Relocate further landward 2/19/2016
