3 GARTEUR OPEN This report has been prepared by Flight Mechanics Action Group FMlAG(07) of the Group for Aeronautical Research and Technology in EURope (GARTEUR). The report describes the experimental design and testplan for a piloted windshear experiment to be carried out on NLR's four degrees of freedom Research Flight Simulator (RFS) in November/December The experiment tries to identlfy potential problem areas with respect to crew interfacing associated with introducing these advanced windshear detection and display systems in the cockpit. The experiment is aimed at a pilot-in-the-loop assessment of a reactive and a forward-looking windshear detection system, windshear information presented on an EFIS Navigation Display and a flight-director go-around mode comparison using two different implementation forms. The first form is a conventional go-around mode in which vertical speed command in combination with speed error are regulated. The second fom is a constant pitch angle controller including an angle of attack protection mode. Furthermore both windshear detection systems and two types of windshear displays are used to allow the pilot to manually apply a speed increment strategy. This speed strategy is based on the windshear alerts and windshear indications given on the display and serves the purpose of increasing the aircraft's energy level well in advance of entering a windshear. This testplan contains a detailed description of the total experimental set-up. It describes the aircraft model, environmental conditions, windshear detection system models, flight-director logic, windshear displays and pilot tasks and performance measures. Furthermore the design of the experiment, the test matrix and the way crew performance and crew response will be collected and analyzed is described. Finally the pilot questionnaires and the data run sequences are given. GARTEUR OPEN
