Open Source Software Suite for SSA and SOCW Open Source Software Suite for Space Situational Awareness and Space Object Catalog Work (P. J. Cefola, B. Weeden and C. Levit, ICATT 2010) This paper addressed two major issues: 1 the problem of adapting legacy SSA software tools to modern computing environments 2 the addition of the new analytic functionality to the operational SSA toolbox
Open Source Software Suite for SSA and SOCW Adapting complex scientific software to modern computing environments includes: non-invasive encapsulation of legacy binaries migration of SSA tools to a language platform employing object-oriented and component technologies such as C++ a plan for creating a Web 2.0 architecture Orbit Propagators: Numerical Integration,, Brouwer-Lyddane, NORAD GP (SGP, SGP4, SGP8, with tesseral m-daily option), NORAD HANDE (with tesseral m-daily option) NAVSPASUR PPT, (with tesseral m-daily option), and the Russian A, AP, and NA theories
N ondy Web T ools Space Surveillance Awareness Project (Astrody Web T ools ): Origin Non-Commercial Scientific Software Designed and implemented by us Designed and implemented by others Input APPLICATION (black box) Output Aim of this project: Enable users to run scientific applications remotely on our system, freely and easily, by means of a Web interface

Draper Semi-Analytical Satellite Theory (DSST) DSST is an accurate, efficient and extensively used Semi-Analytical Satellite Theory DSST was developed by P. J. Cefola, W. McClain, L. Early, R. Proulx, M. Slutsky and their colleagues at the Computer Sciences Corporation and the Charles Draper Laboratory (CSDL) in the 1970s and 1980s. In its development at the CSDL, DSST also benefited from numerous enhancements made by Massachusetts Institute of Technology graduate students under the direction of the CSDL staff Since 2002, Z. Folcik and his colleagues at the MIT Lincoln Laboratory have made significant contributions to the testing and maintenance of the DSST
Features Based on the Generalized Method of Averaging perturbation technique Equations of motion and perturbation models are expressed in the non-singular equinoctial orbital elements Extensive force modeling based on recursive algorithms for the special functions Flexibility to configure the satellite theory at execution time Generalized treatment of geopotential tesseral resonance Open to complex spacecraft structures and atmosphere density models Interpolation structure Extensive testing against independent data sources
Space Surveillance Awareness Project Mean Element Equations of Motion Central-body gravitational spherical harmonics of arbitrary degree and order (zonals and tesseral resonance) based on the 50 x 50 geopotential J2-squared second order effect (model based on eccentricity truncation) Third-body point mass effects Atmospheric drag with J2/drag coupling Solar radiation pressure with eclipsing Solar and lunar solid Earth tides Coordinate systems True of Reference Date Mean of 1950 Mean of J2000 True of Reference compatible with J2000
Space Surveillance Awareness Project Short-Periodic Models Central-body gravitational zonal harmonics of arbitrary degree based on the 50 x 50 geopotential Central-body gravitational m-daily sectoral and tesseral harmonics of arbitrary degree and order based on the 50 x 50 geopotential Central-body gravitational high frequency sectoral and tesseral harmonics of arbitrary degree and order based on the 50 x 50 geopotential J2-squared and J2/m-daily second order short-periodic effects Third-body point mass effects (including Weak Time Dependence) Atmospheric drag Solar radiation pressure
Architecture The DSST standalone source code (Fortran 77) is maintained by Z. Folcik and P Cefola
DSST through Internet: Web Interface
DSST through Internet: Output
The creation of an open source software suite of basic SSA tools available to all space actors DSST standalone, an accurate, efficient and extensively used Semi-Analytical Satellite Theory, can be used through Internet AstrodyT Web ools is the Web framework, which provides DSST with a friendly GUI and users with a web service which can be easily accessed from a Web browser DSST users play a relevant role in the improvement of this Web service, generated from the DSST output, because it is possible to modify the DSST Web interface in function of users needs We are developing a new web environment, which will replace the current prototype
