1 Jeffrey A. Wilkerson CURRICULUM VITAE 713 Center Avenue Department of Physics Decorah, IA Luther College 700 College Drive Decorah, IA phone: (563) FAX: (563) TEACHING AND RESEARCH INTERESTS My teaching interests span the physical sciences and the intersection of the physical sciences with other areas of human experience. I teach at all levels, including several courses designed for non-science majors. I work with students on many research projects, most of them centered on the acquisition of short-duration images of open star cluster fields. We study limits to photometric precision due to atmospheric and equipment effects, cycle-to-cycle variations in both eclipsing binary stars and long-period variable stars and apparent star brightness changes due to extrinsic causes such as a foreground object passing between the star and us. EDUCATION Ph.D. Physics, University of California, Berkeley, December, 1995 M.S. Physics, University of California, Berkeley, May, 1989 B.S. Physics, Indiana University, Bloomington, May, 1987, High Distinction TEACHING EXPERIENCE Associate Professor, Luther College, Decorah, Iowa, August 2003 present, department head August, 2001 present. Instructor, St. Mary's College, Moraga, California, September, December, Taught astronomy lab for nonscience majors. Graduate Student Instructor, Department of Physics, University of California, Berkeley, August, December, Taught undergraduate physics including Thermal Physics and General Physics. PREVIOUS RESEARCH EXPERIENCE Post-doctoral Research Associate, Department of Physics, University of California, Berkeley, January August Served as project manager for the Scintillation Imaging Gas-filled Hard X-ray Telescope for astronomical research. Graduate Student Research Assistant, Department of Physics, University of California, Berkeley, January December Developed detectors for X-ray and -ray astronomy.
