Post-doc Days DIFA+INAF(Bo) 5-6 February 2015 Study of environment in galaxy surveys Olga Cucciati Universita' di Bologna - DIFA INAF-Osservatorio Astronomico di Bologna
My Gelmini countdown: 1 year and 8 months left
Motivation of my Research Known facts The formation and evolution of galaxies and DM halos is driven by MASS and ENVIRONMENT Open problem Galaxy stellar mass DM halo mass How can we link their formation and evolution? What we need to study in detail 1) how does the star formation efficiency evolve and depend on DM halo accretion? 2) which environmental processes, and on which scales, affect the most the star formation efficiency?
Impact of environment on galaxy properties along the cosmic time
Impact of environment on galaxy properties along the cosmic time Small scales Substructures in galaxy clusters Large scales Groups and clusters detection Density field / LSS
Impact of environment on galaxy properties along the cosmic time z<0.5 - galaxy populations - environment - individual galaxies z~1-2 - galaxy populations - environment 2<z<4+ - galaxy populations - environment? Observations at high redshift are limited by instrumental resolution and required observational time
