Abstract In this article the general solution of one class of second order ordinary differential equations with variable coefficients is fined. The twopoint boundary value problem for this class is solved. Mathematics Subject Classification: 34C30 Keywords: Second order, ordinary differential equation, two-point boundary value problem, variable coefficients 1 Introduction Let 0 < 1 <, S[0, 1 ] is the class of measurable, essentially bounded functions f() in [0, 1 ] and W [0, 2 1 ] is the class of functions f(), for which
112 A. Tungatarov and D. K. Akhmed-Zaki d 2 f d 2 S[0, 1 ]. The norm of an element from S[0, 1 ] is defined by the formula We consider the equation f 0 = essup [0,1 ] f() = lim p f Lp[0, 1 ]. d 2 u + a()u = f() (1) d2 in interval [0, 1 ], where a(), f() S[0, 1 ]. Two-point boundary value problems for second order ordinary differential equations are classical area of research of the theory of ordinary differential equations and because of their broad application in mechanic, mathematical physic and geometry (see, for eample,[1]-[9]) they are still actively investigated. However, in mathematical literature the equations of the form (1) with continuous coefficients are studied and sufficient conditions of resolvability of boundary value problems for them are received. In author s works [10, 11] the general solution of equation (1) is constructed and Cauchy problem for it with initial point = 0 is solved. In this work an eplicit form of general solution of equation (1) in class where W 2 [0, 1 ] C 1 [0, 1 ], (2) 1 < 2 a 0 (3) is found and net two - point boundary value problem is solved. Problem D. Find the solution of equation (1) from the class (2) satisfying the conditions where α, β are given real numbers. u(0) = α, u ( 1 ) = β, (4) 2 Construction of the general solutions to equation (1) By integrating two times the equation (1), we get where c 1, c 2 are any real numbers, u() = (Bu)() + g() + c 1 + c 2, (5)
Second order linear ODE with variable coefficients 113 (Bu)() = a(t)u(t)dtdy, g() = f(t)dtdy. Applying the operator B to both sides of equation (5) we have (Bu)() = (B 2 u)() + (Bg)() + c 1 a 1 () + c 2 b 1 (), (6) where (B 2 u)() = (B(Bu)())(), a 1 () = ta(t)dtdy, b 1 () = a(t)dtdy. From (5) and (6)it follows u() = (B 2 u)() + c 1 ( + a 1 ()) + c 2 (1 + b 1 ()) + g() + (Bg)(). (7) Further we use following functions and operators: a k () = a(t)a k 1 (t)dtdy, b k () = a(t)b k 1 (t)dtdy, (B k u)() = (B(B k 1 u)())(), (k = 2, 3,...). Applying the operator B to both sides of equation (7) we get (Bu)() = (B 3 u)() + c 1 (a 1 () + a 2 ()) + c 2 (b 1 () + b 2 ())+ +(Bg)() + B 2 g)(). (8) From (5) and (8) it follows u()=(b 3 u)() + c 1 ( + a 1 () + a 2 ()) + c 2 (1 + b 1 ()+ +b 2 ()) + g() + (Bg)() + (B 2 g)(). Continuing this procedure n times we obtain the following integral representation for solutions of equation (1): u() = (B n u)() + c 1 ( + n 1 a k ()) + c 2 (1 + n 1 n 1 b k ()) + (B k g)(), (9) where (B 0 g)() = g(). Let u() C[0, 1 ]. The following inequalities are easily obtained: (B n u)() 2 u 1 a n 0 2n 1 2 n, (n = 1, 2,...), (10) k=0
114 A. Tungatarov and D. K. Akhmed-Zaki a k () < a k 0 2k 1, b 2 k k () < 2 a k 0 2k 1, (k = 1, 2,...), (11) 2 k where f 1 = ma [0, 1 ] f(). Passing to the limit with n in the representation (9) and taking inequalities (10), (3) into account we get where u() = c 1 I 1 () + c 2 I 2 () + F (), (12) I 1 () = + a k (), I 2 () = 1 + b k (), F () = (B k g)(). k=0 Using the inequalities (10), (11), we receive I 1 () 2 2 a 0 2 1, I 2 () < 2 + a 0 2 1, 2 a a F () g 1. 2 a (13) From the form of functions I 1 (), I 2 () and F () for [0, 1 ], where 1 satisfies inequality (3), it follows I 1() = 1 + F () = 1 1 a(t)i 1 (t)dt, I 2() = f(t)dt + 1 a(t)f (t)dt, 1 a(t)i 2 (t)dt, (14) I 1 () = a()i 1 (), I 2 () = a()i 2 (), (15) F () = f() a()f (). (16) Considering (14) and the form of functions I 1 (), I 2 (), F () we get I 1 (0) = F (0) = F ( 1 ) = I 2( 1 ) = 0, I 2 (0) = I 1( 1 ) = 1. (17) From (15) and (16) it follows, that functions I 1 (), I 2 () are particular solutions from class (2) of homogeneous equations d 2 u d 2 + a()u = 0, and the function F () is solution of non-homogeneous equation (1).
Second order linear ODE with variable coefficients 115 From (15) and (17) we see that the Wronskian W () of the system of functions I 1 (), I 2 () is equal to I 2 ( 1 ). Therefore if I 2 ( 1 ) 0 then the functions I 1 () and I 2 () are linear independent on [0, 1 ] and the general solution to equation (1) is determined by the formula (12). Hence, we proved the following theorem. Theorem. If I 2 ( 1 ) 0 then the function u(), given by the formula (12), is a general solution of equation (1) from class (2). 3 Solution of boundary value problem For equation (1) we consider the problem D. To solve the problem D we use the solution of equation (1), given by the formula (12). Substituting the function u(), given by formula (12), into boundary conditions (4) and taking into account (17) we have c 2 = α, c 1 = β. Hence, the solution of problem D has a form u() = βi 1 () + αi 2 () + F (). (18) Therefore, the following theorem is proved. Theorem. If I 2 ( 1 ) 0 then the problem D has solution, which is given by the formula (18). Remark. Obviously, that the results of present work and take place for a(), f() C[0, 1 ]. In this case the solutions given by the formulas (12) and (18) belong to the class C 2 [0, 1 ]. References [1] E. Kamke, Differentialgleichungen, Lösungsmethoden und Lösungen, Teil 1, Akad.
