1 Christian Groß Curriculum Vitae Work Address Max-Planck-Institut für Quantenoptik Hans-Kopfermann-Straße Garching Home Address Riemerfeldring Garching Date of Birth 24th December 1980 Place of Birth Kirchen / Sieg Nationality German Phone christian.gross@mpq.mpg.de Scientific Profile My research is focused on experimental quantum many-body physics based on ultracold atoms. With this system, we explore fundamental questions of many-body quantum science and by perfecting the control and detection, we are pushing the system towards applications in future quantum technologies. I received my PhD in 2010 from the University of Heidelberg, where I worked on the preparation of non-classical (spin-squeezed) states for quantum enhanced metrology. I stayed as a postdoc until 2011, and since then I am working at the Max-Planck-Institute of Quantum Optics (MPQ) in Garching on quantum gas microscopy of ultracold bosons and fermions in optical lattices. We developed techniques to detect and manipulate individual atoms, including their spin state, in tailored strongly correlated quantum systems. This quantum simulation approach provides novel insight into manybody models, which are relevant also in traditional solid state physics. Since 2016 I am leading an independent research group at the MPQ with the goal to control long-range interactions between ultracold atoms. These interactions are induced by laser coupling to highly excited Rydberg states and have been proposed as a novel platform for quantum computation and simulation. Permanent Positions since Max-Planck-Institute of Quantum Optics, Garching, Germany Research group leader Postdoc Max-Planck-Institute of Quantum Optics, Garching, Germany Project leader of two experiments in the group of Prof. I.
