1 QUIZ 2 (METRICS) REVIEW TOPICS AND REVIEW PROBLEMS GENERAL INFORMATION You will have 5 minutes for this quiz. As the quiz is pure memorization, this amount of time for each question should be limited only by how fast you can write. There will be no History of Chemistry questions. There will be no Scientific Method questions. There are no calculations on this quiz. Therefore, no calculators are needed. You will feel rushed on this quiz. Thus, you must know the material thoroughly in order to do well. Do not memorize and dump this information: you will be using it for the rest of the year! A note to the grammar purists: sometimes my quotation marks at the ends of my sentences do not include the periods and questions marks. This is a stylistic choice that I make in order to present the material with greater clarity. PART : THE SEVEN METRIC BASE UNITS There will be five questions for Part of this quiz. Practice Problems for Part are on Page 2 of this review packet. PART 2: METRIC PREFIXES There will be ten questions for Part 2 of this quiz. Practice problems for Part 2 are on Pages 4 5 of this review packet. There is a table of metric prefixes on Page 3 aid you in your memorization. I am sending you flash cards to also aid you in your memorization. You are not required to use them. There will be five questions for Part 3 of this quiz. The Practice problems for Part 3 are on Page 5 of this Review Packet. PART 3: UNIT EQUATIONS AND UNIT FACTORS This part of the quiz also requires memorization of the material. Be able to define the term unit equation. See p. 32 in the textbook. Four questions One definition question: unit equation. 3 PART INFORMATION AND PRACTICE PROBLEMS: THE SEVEN METRIC BASE UNITS The metric base units are listed on page 3 of the textbook and in your notes. You will need to know the seven base units, their symbols, and parameters for which they are used to measure. Each answer for Part is worth point. Types of questions: YOU ARE GIVEN THE NAME OF THE METRIC BASE UNIT: Supply the symbol of the metric base unit. Ex: What is the symbol for the candela? Supply the parameter that the metric base unit is used to measure. Ex: What parameter is measured by the ampere? YOU ARE GIVEN THE SYMBOL OF THE METRIC BASE UNIT: Supply the name of the metric base unit. Ex: What is the name of the metric base unit represented by the metric symbol K? Supply the parameter that the symbol represents. Ex: What parameter is measured in moles? YOU ARE GIVEN THE PARAMETER IN WHICH THE METRIC BASE UNIT IS MEASURED: Supply the name of the metric base unit. Ex: What is the name of the metric base unit that is used to measure mass? Supply the symbol of the metric unit. Ex: What is the symbol for the metric base unit that is used to measure time? Note: I have not supplied an answer key for the practice problems listed above.
