Rovisco Pais, Lisboa, Portuga 2 Goethe-Universität Frankfurt am Main, Institut für Theoretische Physik, Max-von-Laue-Straße 1, D Frankfurt am Main, Germany Abstract. We study tetraquark resonances with attice QCD potentias computed for two static quarks and two dynamica quarks, the Born-Oppenheimer approximation and the emergent wave method of scattering theory. As a proof of concept we focus on systems with isospin I = 0, but consider different reative anguar momenta of the heavy b quarks. We compute the phase shifts and search for S and T matrix poes in the second Riemann sheet. We predict a new tetraquark resonance for = 1, decaying into two B mesons, with quantum numbers I(J P ) = 0(1 ), mass m = Γ = MeV. 1 Introduction MeV and decay width A ong standing probem in QCD is to understand exotic hadrons. In this work we speciaize in tetraquark systems with two heavy antiquarks b b and two ighter quarks qq, where q {u, d, s, c}. The existence of bound states has been extensivey investigated in the recent past by combining static attice QCD potentias and the Born-Oppenheimer approximation. A stabe ud b b tetraquark with quantum numbers I(J P ) = 0(1 + ) has been predicted [1 9] and been confirmed by simiar computations using four quarks of finite mass [10]. Here we extend our investigation by incuding a new technique from scattering theory, the emergent wave method [11], and search for possiby existing tetraquark resonances (cf. aso [12] for more detais). 2 Lattice QCD potentias of two static antiquarks Q Q in the presence of two ighter quarks qq In a first step we have computed potentias V(r) of two static antiquarks Q Q in the presence of two ighter quarks qq, where q {u, d, s, c}, using attice QCD [2, 4]. There are both attractive and repusive channes. Most promising with respect to the existence of stabe tetraquarks or tetraquark resonances are ight quarks q {u, d} together with (I = 0, j = 0) or (I = 1, j = 1), where I denotes isospin and j ight tota anguar momentum. The corresponding potentias are not ony attractive, but aso rather wide and deep [7]. Speaker, e-mai: bicudo@tecnico.uisboa.pt

(1) for two static antiquarks Q Q, in the presence of two ight quarks qq with quantum numbers I and j. The attice QCD resuts for the potentias can be parametrized by a screened Couomb potentia, V(r) = α r e r2 /d 2 (1) inspired by one-guon exchange at sma Q Q separations r and a screening of the Couomb potentia by the two B mesons at arge r (cf. Figure 1). Ceary, the (I = 0, j = 0) potentia is more attractive than the (I = 1, j = 1) potentia as can be seen in Figure 2. Numerica resuts for the parameters α and d are coected in Tabe 1. The potentia parametrization is then used in the Schrödinger equation for the reative coordinate of the heavy antiquarks b b Q Q to search for either for bound states (cf. [5, 7 9]) or for resonances (cf. sections 3 and 4 ). 3 The emergent wave method In this section, we summarize the emergent wave method, which is suited to compute phase shifts and resonances. More detais can be found in Ref. [11]. 3.1 Emergent and incident wavefunctions We consider the Schrödinger equation used for studying bound states: ( H0 + V(r) ) Ψ = EΨ. (2) The first step in the emergent wave method is to spit the wave function of the Schrödinger Eq. into two parts, Ψ = Ψ 0 + X, (3)

(right) (I = 1, j = 1) potentia. where Ψ 0 is the incident wave, a soution of the free Schrödinger equation, H 0 Ψ 0 = EΨ 0, and X is the emergent wave. Inserting this in Eq. (2), we obtain: ( H0 + V(r) E ) X = V(r)Ψ 0. (4) For any energy E we cacuate the emergent wave X by providing the corresponding Ψ 0 and fixing the appropriate boundary conditions. From the asymptotic behaviour of the emergent wave X we then determine the phase shifts δ, the S matrix and the T matrix. Continuing to compex energies E C we find the poes of the S matrix and the T matrix in the compex pane. We identify a resonance with a poe of S in the second Riemann sheet at m iγ/2, where m is the mass and Γ is the resonance decay width. 3.2 Partia wave decomposition The two heavy antiquarks b b at zero tota anguar momentum are described by the Hamitonian: H = H 0 + V(r) = 2 + V(r) (5) 2µ with reduced mass µ = M/2, where M = MeV is the mass of the B meson from the PDG [13]. For simpicity we omit the additive constant 2M in Eq. (5), i.e. a resuting energy eigenvaues are energy differences with respect to 2M. We consider an incident pane wave Ψ 0 = e ik r, which can be expressed as a sum of spherica waves, Ψ 0 = e ik r = (2 + 1)i j (kr)p (ˆk ˆr), (6) where j are spherica Besse functions, P are Legendre poynomias and the reation between energy and momentum is k = 2µE. For a sphericay symmetric potentia V(r) as in Eq. (1) and an incident wave Ψ 0 = e ik r, the emergent wave X can aso be expanded in terms of Legendre poynomias P, X = (2 + 1)i χ (r) kr P (ˆk ˆr). (7) Inserting Eq. (6) and Eq. (7) into Eq. (4) eads to a set of ordinary differentia equations for χ : ( 2 d 2 ( + 1) ) + + V(r) E χ 2µ dr2 2µr 2 (r) = V(r)kr j (kr). (8)
4 π = 0 = 1 = 2 = 3 = 4 δ π/ E (MeV) Figure 3. Resuts for the phase shift δ as a function of the energy E for different anguar momenta = 0, 1, 2, 3, 4 for the (I = 0, j = 0) potentia (α = 0.34, d = 0.45 fm). 3.3 Soving the differentia equations for the emergent wave The potentias V(r), Eq. (1), are exponentiay screened, i.e. V(r) 0 for r R, where R d. For arge separations r R the emergent wave is, hence, a superposition of outgoing spherica waves, i.e. χ (r) kr = i t h (1) (kr), (9) where h (1) are the spherica Hanke functions of first kind. Our aim is now to compute the compex prefactors t, which wi eventuay ead to the phase shifts. To this end we sove the ordinary differentia equation (8). The corresponding boundary conditions are the foowing: At r = 0: χ (r) r +1. For r R: Eq. (9). The boundary condition for r R fixes t as a function of E. We sove it numericay, with two different numerica techniques approaches: (1) a fine uniform discretization of the interva [0, R], which reduces the differentia equation to a arge set of inear equations, which can be soved rather efficienty, since the corresponding matrix is tridiagona; (2) a standard 4-th order Runge-Kutta shooting method. 3.4 Phase shifts and S and T matrix poes The quantity t is a T matrix eigenvaue (c.f. a standard textbook on quantum mechanics, e.g. [14]). For instance, at arge distances r R, the radia wavefunction is kr[ j (kr) + i t h (1) (kr)] = (kr/2)[h (2) (kr) + e 2iδ h (1) (kr)]. (10)
5 π δ 1 π/2 α = 0.34 α = 0.40 α = 0.45 α = 0.50 α = 0.55 α = 0.60 α = 0.65 α = 0.70 α = 0.71 α = 0.72 α = E (MeV) Figure 4. Resuts for the phase shift δ 1 as a function of the energy E for different parameters α for the (I = 0, j = 0) potentia (d = 0.45 fm). From t we can cacuate the phase shift δ and aso read off the corresponding S matrix eigenvaue s, s 1 + 2it = e 2iδ. (11) Moreover, note that both the S matrix and the T matrix are anaytica in the compex pane. They are we-defined for compex energies E C. Thus, our numerica method can as we be appied to sove the differentia Eq. (8) for compex E C. We find the S and T matrix poes by scanning the compex pane (Re(E), Im(E)) and appying Newton s method to find the roots of 1/t (E). The poes of the S and the T matrix correspond to compex energies of resonances. Note the resonance poes must be in the second Riemann sheet with a negative imaginary part both for the energy E and the momentum k. 4 Resuts for phase shifts, S matrix and T matrix poes and resonances 4.1 Phase shifts We first consider the ud b b potentia corresponding to isospin I = 0 and ight spin j = 0 (cf. Section 3), since this potentia is most attractive. We compute t and via Eq. (11) the phase shift δ for rea energy E and anguar momenta = 0, 1, 2,.... We do not find a fast increase of the phase shift δ as a function of the energy E which woud ceary indicate a resonance (cf. Figure 3). Thus, we must search more thoroughy for possiby existing resonances. Starting with anguar momentum = 1 we first search for cear resonance signas by making the potentia more attractive, i.e. we increase the parameter α. We keep the parameter d = 0.45 fm fixed here to preserve the scae of the potentia. The corresponding resuts for the phase shift δ 1 are shown in Figure 4. Indeed, for α 0.65 we find cear resonances. For α = 0.72, we find a bound state, since the phase shift δ 1 starts at π and decreases monotonicay to 0, when increasing the energy E. However, it is not cear from this observation, for which vaues of α a resonance exists or not.
6 Figure 5. T matrix eigenvaue t 1 as a function of the compex energy E. The vertica axis shows the norm t 1, the coours represent the phase arg(t ). A poe in the compex pane of E C is ceary visibe. 4.2 Resonances as poes of the S and T matrices To ceary identify a resonance, we search directy for poes of the T matrix eigenvaues t. With this technique we ceary find a poe for anguar momentum = 1 and physica vaues of the parameters, α = 0.34 and d = 0.45 fm. We show this poe in Figure 5 by potting t 1 as a function of the compex energy E. To understand the dependence of the resonance poe on the shape of the potentia, we again scan different vaues of the parameter α and determine each time the poe of the eigenvaue t 1 of the T matrix. We show the trajectory of the poe corresponding to a variation of α in the compex pane (Re(E), Im(E)) in Figure 6. Indeed, starting with α = 0.21 we find a poe. This confirms our prediction of a resonance for anguar momentum = 1 and physica vaues of the parameters, α = 0.34 and d = 0.45 fm. In what concerns anguar momenta 1, we find no cear signa for a resonance poe (except for the bound state poe for = 0). We aso find no poes for any in the ess attractive case of (I = 1, j = 1). 4.3 Statistica and systematic error anaysis Finay we perform a detaied statistica and systematic error anaysis of the poe of t 1 and the corresponding vaues (Re(E), Im(E)) for anguar momentum = 1. We use the same anaysis method as for our previous study of the bound state for = 0, cf. [7]. To parametrize the attice QCD data for the potentias, V at (r), discussed in Section 3, we perform uncorreated χ 2 minimizing fits with the ansatz of Eq. (1). To this end we minimize the expression χ 2 = r=r min,...,r max ( V(r) V at ) 2 (r) (12) V at (r) with respect to the parameters α, d and V 0 defined in Eq. (1) and in Refs. [2, 4, 15]. In Eq. (12), V at (r) denotes the corresponding statistica errors. To quantify systematic errors, we perform a arge
7 0 α = Im E (MeV) α = 0.34 α = Re E (MeV) Figure 6. Trajectory of the poe of the eigenvaue t 1 of the T matrix in the compex pane (Re(E), Im(E)), corresponding to a variation of parameter α. We aso iustrate with a coud of diamond points the systematic error [7]. number of fits. We vary the range of tempora separations t min t t max of the correation function where V at (r) is read off as we as the range of spatia b b separations r min r r max considered in the χ 2 minimizing fits to determine the parameters α, d and V 0. To aso incude statistica errors, we compute the jackknife errors of the medians of Re(E) and Im(E) and add them in quadrature to the corresponding systematic uncertainties. With our combined statistica and systematic error anaysis we find a resonance energy Re(E) = MeV and a decay width Γ = 2Im(E) = MeV. Using the Paui principe and considering the symmetry of the quarks with respect to coour, favour, spin and their spatia wave function one can determine the quantum numbers of the resonance, which are I(J P ) = 0(1 ). The resonance wi decay into two B mesons and, hence, its mass is m = 2M + Re(E) = MeV Summary and outook We utiized attice QCD potentias computed for two static antiquarks in the presence of two ight quarks, the Born-Oppenheimer approximation and the emergent wave method to search for ud b b resonances. First we computed the scattering phase shifts of a BB meson pair. Then we performed the anaytic continuation of the S matrix and the T matrix to the second Riemann sheet, where we have searched for poes C. From these resuts we have predicted a nove resonance with quantum numbers I(J P ) = 0(1 ). Performing a carefu statistica and systematic error anaysis, we found a resonance mass m = MeV and a decay width Γ = MeV. For more detais, pease see our recent pubication [12]. In the future we pan to address the experimentay observed quarkonia tetraquarks, incuding b b or c c heavy quarks [15], with our method. Acknowedgments We acknowedge usefu conversations with K.
