GENERALIZED ELLIPTIC FUNCTIONS AND THEIR APPLICATION TO A NONLINEAR EIGENVALUE PROBLEM WITH -LAPLACIAN arxiv:11.377v2 [math.ap] 19 Jan 21 SHINGO TAKEUCHI Dedicated to Professor Yoshio Yamada on occasion of his 6 th birthday Abstract. The Jacobian ellitic functions are generalized and alied to a nonlinear eigenvalue roblem with -Lalacian. The eigenvalue and the corresonding eigenfunction are reresented in terms of common arameters and a comlete descrition of the sectra and a closed form reresentation of the corresonding eigenfunctions are obtained. As a by-roduct of the reresentation it turns out that a kind of solution is also a solution of another eigenvalue roblem with /2-Lalacian. 1. Introduction In this aer we generalize the Jacobian ellitic functions and aly them to a nonlinear eigenvalue roblem { (φ (u +λφ (u(1 u = t (T (PE u( = u(t = where T λ > > 1 and φ m (s = s m 2 s (s = (s =. Problem (PE aears freuently in various articles as stationary roblems. In articular the euation for = = 2 is called e.g. the Allen-Cahn euation the Chafee-Infante euation [3] and a bistable reaction-diffusion euation with logistic effect. The euation for = 2 < is said to be a bistable reaction-diffusion euation with Allee effect. In case = n and = 2 with an n-dimensional domain an euation of this tye is known as the Euler-Lagrange euation of functional related to models introduced by Ginzburg and Landau for the study of hase transitions (cf. Problem 17 in [2]. As to (PE for general > 1 we have to mention the work [8] by Guedda and Véron [8]. They showed that if = > 1 then there exists a ositive increasing seuence {λ n } such that a air of solutions ±u n of 1991 Mathematics Subject Classification. Primary 34L4 Secondary 33E5. This work was suorted by KAKENHI (No
2 SHINGO TAKEUCHI (PE with(n 1-zeros z j = jt/n(j = 12...n 1 bifurcates from the trivial solution at λ = λ n and u n 1 uniformly on any comact set of (T\{z 1 z 2...z n 1 } as λ. Moreover they roved that if = > 2 then for each n N there exists Λ n > λ n such that λ > Λ n imlies u n = 1 on flat cores [z j 1 + T 2n (Λn λ 1/ z j T 2n (Λn λ 1/ ] (j = 12...n of u n where z = and z n = T. This is a great contrast to case 1 < = 2 where u n < 1 in [T]. Since the euation in (PE is autonomous if u n (n 2 has flat cores then there exists uncountable solution with (n 1-zeros near u n which is roduced by exanding and contracting the flat cores with reserving its total length T(1 ( Λn λ 1/. In this sense the n-th branch (λu n bifurcating from (λ n causes the second bifurcation at (Λ n u Λn for each n 2. The henomena of flat corein [8] above was generalized to case > 2 and > 1 by the author and Yamada [11]. They also studied change in bifurcation deending on the relation between and (as far as the first bifurcation is concerned their roof can be alied to case 1 < 2 and showed that for each n N if > then there exists a air of solutions ±u n of (PE with (n 1-zeros for λ > ; if = then there exists λ n > such that (PE has no solution with (n 1- zeros for λ λ n and (PE has a air of solutions ±u n for λ > λ n (the same result as [8]; if < then there exists λ n > such that (PE has no solution with (n 1-zeros for λ < λ n and (PE has a air of solutions ±u n for λ = λ n and (PE has two airs of solutions ±u n ±v n satisfying u n (t > v n (t with t z j (j = 1...n for λ > λ n. In this sense the oint (λ n u λ causes the sontaneous n bifurcation. In any case each solution u n has flat cores for sufficiently large λ. The urose of this aer is to obtain a comlete descrition of the sectra and a closed form reresentation of the corresonding eigenfunctions of (PE while the studies [8] and [11] above are done in the way of hase-lane analysis and no exact solution is given there. For the descrition and reresentation we first recall that the Jacobian ellitic function sn(tk with modulus k [1 satisfies (1.1 u +u(1+k 2 2k 2 u 2 =. (e.g. Examle 4 of.516 in the book [13] of Whittaker and Watson. E.(1.1 reminds that the solution of nonlinear eigenvalue roblem (PE with = = 2 can be reresented exlicitly by using sn(tk. Indeed for any given k (1 the set of eigenvalues of (PE 22 is given
by (1.2 GENERALIZED ELLIPTIC FUNCTIONS AND THEIR APPLICATION 3 ( 2nK(k λ n (k = (1+k 2 T for each n N with corresonding eigenfunctions ±u nk where ( 2k 2 2nK(k (1.3 u nk (t = 1+k sn tk 2 T and K(k is the comlete ellitic integral of the first kind K(k = 1 2 ds (1 s2 (1 k 2 s 2 (cf. Section 2 in [1]. Conversely all nontrivial solutions are given by Es.(1.2 and (1.3 and in articular it follows from E.(1.3 that all solutions satisfy u < 1. In our study on (PE after the fashion of Jacobi s sn(tk we introduce a new transcendental function sn (tk with modulus k [ 1. This satisfies (1.4 (φ (u + φ (u(1+k 2k u = where := /( 1. Using sn (tk we can obtain a comlete descrition of the set of eigenvalues and the corresonding eigenfunctions of (PE as Es.(1.2 and (1.3 with K (k = 1 ds (1 s (1 k s. It is imortant that K (k converges to K 2 ( as k 1 if and only if > 2. Indeed lim K (k = k 1 1 ds (1 s 2 = K 2 (. Similarly sn (tk converges to sn 2 (t as k 1. These convergent roerties yield the existence of secial solutions not necessarily u < 1 and we can really construct the solutions of (PE with flat cores. Moreover sn 2 (t satisfies E.(1.4 with k = and relaced by /2 as well as E.(1.4 with k = 1. Thus we obtain the following (curious roerty: a kind of solution of (PE is also a solution of the nonlinear eigenvalue roblem with /2-Lalacian { (φ 2 (u +λφ (u = t (T u( = u(t =.
4 SHINGO TAKEUCHI Thisaerisorganizedasfollows. InSection2weintroduceageneralized trigonometric function sin (t given by Drábek and Manásevich [7] and define a new transcendental function sn (tk which is a generalization of the Jacobian ellitic function sn(t k and an extension of sin (t as sn (t = sin (t. In Section 3 we aly them to nonlinear eigenvalue roblems articularly to the roblem considered in [8] and [11] and obtain comlete descritions of the set of eigenvalues and the corresonding eigenfunctions. 2. Transcendental Functions 2.1. Generalized trigonometric functions. Generalized trigonometric functions were introduced by Drábek and Manásevich [7] (see also [6]. For σ [1] we define (in a slightly different way from [7] (2.1 arcsin (σ := σ ds (1 s 1 where > 1 >. Letting s = z 1/ we have arcsin (σ = 1 σ z 1 1 (1 z 1 dz = 1 B where B(stu denotes the incomlete beta function B(stu = We define the constant π as u z s 1 (1 z t 1 dz. π := 2arcsin (1 = 2 B ( 1 1 where B(s t denotes the beta function B(st = B(st1 = 1 z s 1 (1 z t 1 dz. ( 1 1 σ We have that arcsin : [1] [π /2] and is strictly increasing. Let us denote its inverse by sin. Then sin : [π /2] [1] and is strictly increasing. We extend sin to all R (and still denote this extension by sin in the following form: for t [π /2π ] we set sin (t := sin (π t then for t [ π ] we define sin (t := sin ( t and finally we extend sin to all R as a 2π eriodic function. When < 1 we also define arcsin as E.(2.1 for σ [1. We have that arcsin : [1 [ and is strictly increasing. Let us denote its inverse by sin. Then sin : [ [1 and is
GENERALIZED ELLIPTIC FUNCTIONS AND THEIR APPLICATION 5 strictly increasing. We extend sin to all R as sin (t := sin ( t for t ( ] and still denote this extension by sin. Remark 2.1. We immediately find that sin 22 (t = sin(t and π 22 = π from the roerties of the beta function. Moreover sin (t = sin (t and π = π = 2π where sin sin π and π are the generalized sine function and its half-eriod resectively aearing in [4] [5] and [6]. We define for t [π /2] (in case < 1 for t [ then we obtain cos (t := (1 sin (t1 cos (t+sin (t = 1 d dt sin (t = cos (t. Proosition 2.1. For > 1 sin satisfies for all R (2.2 (φ (u + φ (u =. Proof. For t (π /2 we have (φ (u = (φ (cos (t = ((1 sin (t 1 = 1 (1 sin (t 1 ( sin 1 (t cos (t = φ (u. By symmetry of sin E.(2.2 holds true for t t n := nπ /2 n Z. Since lim t tn (φ (u exists φ (u is differentiable also at t = t n and satisfies E.(2.2 for all R in the classical sense Generalized Jacobian ellitic functions. We shall introduce new transcendental functions which generalize the Jacobian ellitic functions. For σ [1] and k [1 we define (2.3 arcsn (σ = arcsn (σk := σ where > 1 >. We define the constant K (k as K = K (k := arcsn (1k = 1 ds (1 s (1 k s ds (1 s (1 k s
6 SHINGO TAKEUCHI We have that arcsn : [1] [K ] and is strictly increasing. Let us denote its inverse by sn ( = sn ( k. Then sn : [K ] [1] and is strictly increasing. We extend sn to all R (and still denotethis extension by sn inthefollowing form: for t [K 2K ] we set sn (t := sn (2K t then for t [ 2K ] we define sn (t := sn ( t and finally we extend sn to all R as a 4K eriodic function. When < 1 we also define arcsn as E.(2.3 for σ [1. We have that arcsn : [1 [ and is strictly increasing. Let us denotes its inverse by sn ( = sn ( k. Then sn : [ [1 and is strictly increasing. We extend sn to all R as sn (t := sn ( t for t ( ] and still denote this extension by sn. The following roosition is crucial to our study. Proosition 2.2. For > K is continuous and strictly increasing in [1 2K ( = π and sn (t = sin (t. Moreover { lim 2K π (k = 2 if > 2 k 1 if < 2 lim k 1 sn (tk = sin 2 (t. Proof. The first half is trivial from the definitions of K and sn. If > 2 then the monotone convergence theorem of Beo Levi gives lim 2K (k = 2 k 1 1 ds (1 s 2 = 2arcsin 2 (1 = π 2. If < 2 then 2K (k diverges to as k 1 by Fatou s lemma. The last roerty is roved as follows. By the symmetry of sn ( k we may assume t >. Suose > 2 and that there exist t ε > and {k j } such that k j 1 as j and (2.4 σ kj sin 2 (t ε where σ kj = sn (t k j. Let n Z be the number satisfying t I n := [nπ 2 /2(n+1π 2 /2 and j N a large number satisfying t I n (k j := [nk (k j (n+1k (k j. We write sn (n ( k j as sn ( k j on I n (k j and sin (n( as sin ( on I n. Now since σ kj is bounded we can choose a subseuence {k j } of {k j } such that σ kj σ for some σ [ 11] as j. Thus as j t = nk (k j +arcsn (σ kj nπ 2 2 +arcsin 2 (σ
GENERALIZED ELLIPTIC FUNCTIONS AND THEIR APPLICATION 7 and hence σ = sin (n (t which contradicts (2.4. The roof to case 2 < 2 is similar and we omit it. Remark 2.2. In case > 2 2K (k and sn ( k converge to the finite valueπ 2 andto thefinite-eriodicfunction sin 2 ask 1 resectively. This is uite different from case = 2 where 2K 2 (k diverges to and sn 22 (tk converges to the monotone increasing function sin 12 (t = tanh(t as k 1. We define for t [K ] (in case < 1 for t [ then we obtain cn (t := (1 sn (t1 dn (t := (1 k sn (t1 cn (t+sn (t = 1 d dt sn (t = cn (tdn (t. Proosition 2.3. For > 1 sn satisfies for all R (2.5 (φ (u + φ (u(1+k 2k u = which includes E.(2.2 as case k =. Proof. For t (K (k we have (φ (u = (φ (cn (tdn (t = (((1 sin (t(1 k sin (t 1 = 1 ((1 sin (t(1 k sin (t 1 ( sin 1 (t (1+k 2k sin (t cn (tdn (t = φ (u(1+k 2k u. By symmetry of sn E.(2.5 holds true for t t n := nk (k n Z. Since lim t tn (φ (u exists φ (u is differentiable also at t = t n and satisfies E.(2.5 for all R in the classical sense. Remark 2.3. Letting s = sin (t in E.(2.3 we have arcsn (σk = arcsin (σ dt. 1 k sin (t
8 SHINGO TAKEUCHI We define the amlitude function am ( k : [K (k] [π /2] by t = am (tk thus sn is reresented by sin as dθ 1 k sin (θ sn (tk = sin (am (tk. 3. Alications 3.1. The (-eigenvalue roblem. Let T λ > and > 1. We consider the nonlinear eigenvalue roblem { (φ (u +λφ (u = t (T (E u( = u(t =. Problem (E has been studied by many authors. In articular in aer [1] of Ôtani the existence of infinitely many multi-node solutions was roved by using subdifferential oerators method and hase-lane analysis combined with symmetry roerties of the solutions. After that Drábek and Manásevich [7] rovided exlicit forms of the whole sectrum and the corresonding eigenfunctions for (E (see also [6]. We follow [7] to understand comletely the set of all solutions of (E. It will be convenient to find first the solution to the initial value roblem { (φ (u +λφ (u = (3.1 u( = u ( = α where without loss of generality we may assume α >. Let u be a solution to E.(3.1 and let t(α be the first zero oint of u (t. On interval (t(α u satisfies u(t > and u (t > and thus u (t +λ u(t = λ R = α where R = u(t(α >. Solving for u and integrating we find ( 1 t u (s ds = t λ (R u(s 1 which after a change of variable can be written as ( 1 u(t ( 1 1 R ds 1 t = = λ R 1 (1 s 1 λ R arcsin 1 ( u(t R.
GENERALIZED ELLIPTIC FUNCTIONS AND THEIR APPLICATION 9 Thus we obtain the solution to E.(3.1 can be written as ( (λ 1 (3.2 u(t = Rsin R 1 t where R = ( λ 1 α. Theorem 3.1. All nontrivial solutions of (E are given as follows. For any given R > the set of eigenvalues of (E is given by λ n (R = ( nπ R (3.3 T for each n N with corresonding eigenfunctions ±u nr where ( nπ (3.4 u nr (t = Rsin T t. Proof. For given R > by imosing that u in E.(3.2 satisfies the boundaryconditions in (E we obtain that λ isaneigenvalue of (E if and only if ( 1 λ R 1 T = nπ n N and hence E.(3.3 follows. Exression (3.4 for the eigenfunctions follows directly from E.( A erturbed (-eigenvalue roblem. Let T λ > and > 1. We consider the nonlinear eigenvalue roblem { (φ (u +λφ (u(1 u = t (T (PE u( = u(t =. Problem(PE hasbeenstudiedbybergerandfraenkel[1]andchafee and Infante [3] ( = = 2 Wang and Kazarinoff [12] and Korman Li and Ouyang [9] ( = 2 < Guedda and Véron [8] ( = > 1 and Takeuchi and Yamada [11] ( > 2 > 1. However there is no study roviding exlicit forms of the whole sectrum and the corresonding eigenfunctions for (PE. As we have done for (E it will be convenient to find first the solution to the initial value roblem { (φ (u +λφ (u(1 u = (3.5 u( = u ( = α where without loss of generality we may assume α >.
1 SHINGO TAKEUCHI Let u be a solution to E.(3.5 and let t(α be the first zero oint of u (t. On interval (t(α u satisfies u(t > and u (t > and thus u (t +λ F(u = λ F(R = α where F(s = s 1 2 s2 and R = u(t(α. Since we are interested in functions satisfying the boundary condition of (PE it suffices to assume < R 1 which means u 1. Moreover we restrict to < R < 1 and concentrate solutions satisfying u < 1 for a while. Solving for u and integrating we find ( 1 t u (s ds = t λ F(R F(u(s which after a change of variable can be written as ( 1 u(t R R (3.6 t = ds. λ F(R F(Rs It is easy to verify that F(R F(Rs = F(R(1 s (1 R and hence ( t = λ = 1 ( 1 λ R F(R 1 R F(R 1 u(t R ds (1 s (1 k s. arcsn ( u(t R k 2 R s (k := R 2 R Then we obtain that the solution to E.(3.5 can be written as ( (λ 1 1 F(R (3.7 u(t = Rsn R tk where (3.8 ( R k = 2 R R = 1 ( 1 α λ ( λ α We first observe the structure of the set of all nontrivial solutions of (PE satisfying u < 1.
GENERALIZED ELLIPTIC FUNCTIONS AND THEIR APPLICATION 11 Theorem 3.2 ( u < 1. All nontrivial solutions for (12] and all nontrivial solutions with u < 1 for > 2 are given as follows. For any given k (1 the set of eigenvalues of (PE is given by λ n (k = ( 2k 1 ( 2nK (k (3.9 (1+k 1+k T for each n N with corresonding eigenfunctions ±u nk where ( 1 ( 2k 2nK (k (3.1 u nk (t = sn tk. 1+k T Proof. For k (1 given we imose that Function (3.7 with R (1decidedfromE.(3.8satisfiestheboundaryconditionsin(PE. Then we obtain that λ is an eigenvalue of (PE if and only if ( λ 1 F(R 1 R T = 2nK (k n N. From E.(3.8 again we have F(R 1 ( 1 2k R = 1 (1+k 1 1+k and hence we obtain E.(3.9. Exression (3.1 for the eigenfunctions follows then directly from E.(3.7. It remains to show that no other nontrivial solution of (PE is obtained when 1 < 2. Assume the contrary. Then there exist t > and a nontrivial solution u of (PE with R = u(t = 1. However the right-hand side of E.(3.6 with t = t diverges because F(1 F(s = O((1 s 2 as s 1. Thus t = which is a contradiction. Next we find solutions of (PE with u 1 excet the solutions given by Theorem 3.2. From Proosition 2.2 one of solutions of E.(3.5 is obtained by k 1 in E.(3.7 with E.(3.8 namely ( (λ 1 u(t = sin 2 t. 2 Now we assume > 2 and take a number t as ( λ 2 1 t = π 2 /2 then u attains 1 at t = t (note that it is imossible to obtainsuch a solution when 1 < 2. Using this u we can make the other solutions of E.(3.5 as follows. In the hase-lane the orbit (u(tu (t arrives at the euilibrium oint (1 at t = t and can stay there for any finite time τ before it begins to leave there. Then the interval [t t +τ] is a
12 SHINGO TAKEUCHI flat core of the solution. Similarly there is the other euilibrium oint ( 1 where the orbit can stay and the solution has another flat core of any finite length. Thus we have solutions of E.(3.5 attaining ±1 with any number of flat cores. Theorem 3.3 ( u 1. Let > 2 then all nontrivial solutions are given as follows in addition to Theorem 3.2. For any given τ [T the set of eigenvalues of (PE is given by Λ n (τ = 2 ( nπ 2 T τ for each n N with corresonding eigenfunctions ±u n{τi } where u n{τi } is any function given as follows: for any {τ i } n i=1 with τ i and n i=1 τ i = τ (3.11 ( ( 1 j 1 nπ2 sin 2 (t T T τ j 1 ( 1 j 1 u n{τi }(t = ( ( 1 j 1 nπ2 sin 2 (T T τ j t j = 12...n where T = and T j = (T τj n + j i=1 τ i for j = 12...n. if T j 1 t T j 1 + T τ 2n if T j 1 + T τ t T 2n j T τ if T j T τ t T 2n j Proof. For each n N it suffices to construct solutions with (n 1- zeros. Let τ [T. They are all generated by the eigenvalue and the corresonding eigenfunction of (PE with T relaced by T τ Λ n (τ = 2 ( nπ 2 T τ u nτ (t = sin 2 ( nπ 2 T τ t which are obtained from Es.(3.9 and (3.1 with k 1 resectively. In the hase-lane the orbit (u nτ (tu nτ(t goes through the euilibrium oints (±1 in n-times without staying there as t increases from to T τ. Therefore if the orbit stays the i-th euilibrium oint for time τ i where τ 1 +τ 2 + +τ n = τ then we can obtain Solution (3.11 with n-flat cores in [T]. In Theorems 3.2 and 3.3 we give arameters k and τ to obtain the eigenvalue and the corresonding eigenfunction of (PE. Conversely giving any λ > we can observe the set S λ of all solutions of (PE by considering the inverses of λ n and Λ n. 2n
GENERALIZED ELLIPTIC FUNCTIONS AND THEIR APPLICATION 13 Theorem 3.4. Let > 1 and > 1. Case >. For any λ > there exists a strictly decreasing ositive seuence {k j } j=1 such that k j as j and S λ = {} {±u jkj }. Case =. If j=1 < λ ( π T then S λ = {}. If ( nπ ( (n+1π < λ n N T T then there exists a strictly decreasing ositive seuence {k j } n j=1 such that n S λ = {} {±u jkj }. j=1 Case <. There exists λ 1 > such that if < λ < λ 1 then S λ = {}. If n λ 1 λ < (n+1 λ 1 n N then there exist a strictly decreasing ositive seuence {k j } n j=1 and a strictly increasing ositive seuence {l j } n j=1 such that k j > l j j = 12...n 1 and n n S λ = {} {±u jkj } {±u jlj } j=1 where u nkn = u nln with k n = l n for λ = n λ 1 and u nkn > u nln (t jt/n j = 12...n 1 with k n > l n otherwise. In any case each k j l j is calculated by E.(3.9 for λ j and the corresonding solution is given in Form (3.1. When 1 < 2 we have k j < 1. When > 2 in addition if λ 2 ( mπ 2 T j=1 m N then for each j = 12...m the set {±u jkj } above is relaced by {τi }{±u j{τi }} where {τi } is the union for all {τ i } j i=1 satisfying τ i and j ( 1 2 τ i = T jπ 2. λ i=1 The nontrivial solution u j{τi } is given in Form (3.11.
14 SHINGO TAKEUCHI Proof. First we assume 1 < 2. In this case we have already known that all nontrivial solutions of (PE are obtained by Theorem 3.2. Now we fix λ >. We obtain that λ is the j-th eigenvalue of (PE if and only if from E.(3.9 there exists k (1 such that (3.12 T 2j ( λ 1 = (1+k 1 ( 2k 1+k 1 1 K (k =: Φ(k. Case >. Φ(k is strictly increasing in (1 and it follows from Proosition 2.2 that Φ( = and lim k 1 Φ(k =. Thus there exists a uniue k = k j (λ satisfying E.(3.12. For j and k j a uniue solution u jkj of (PE is obtained by E.(3.1. Case =. Φ(k is strictly increasing in (1 and it follows from Proosition 2.2 that Φ( = π /2 and lim k 1 Φ(k =. Thus if namely T 2j ( λ 1 > π 2 λ > ( jπ T then there exists a uniue k = k j (λ satisfying E.(3.12. For j and k j a uniue solution u jkj of (PE is obtained by E.(3.1. Case <. It is clear that lim k + Φ(k = lim k 1 Φ(k =. Changing variable r = k we can write Φ as 1+k Ψ(r = 1 (1+s 1 1 ψ((1+s rds r (1/2 (1 s 1 where ψ(t = t 1 1 (1 t 1. It is easy to see that ψ is convex in (1 because ψ(t > and ( 1 (logψ(t = 1 1 t (1 t >. 2 Then Ψ is twice-differentiable in ( 1/2 and Ψ (r = 1 (1+s ψ ((1+s rds >. (1 s 1 Thus Ψ is convex and there exists k (1 such that Φ(k is the only one critical value and hence the minimum of Φ in (1.
If namely GENERALIZED ELLIPTIC FUNCTIONS AND THEIR APPLICATION 15 T 2j ( λ 1 = Φ(k λ = j λ 1 := ( 2jΦ(k T then k satisfies E.(3.12. For j and k a uniue solution u jk of (PE is obtained by E.(3.1. Moreover if T 2j ( λ 1 > Φ(k namely λ > j λ 1 then there exist k = k j (λ and l j (λ such that ( ( 1 k j (λ = Φ 1 T λ (k 1 2j ( ( 1 l j (λ = Φ 1 T λ (k. 2j For j k j and l j solutions u jkj and u jlj of (PE are obtained by E.(3.1. Next we assume > 2. In any case a similar roof as above with lim k 1 Φ(k = π 2 instead of lim k 1 Φ(k = gives that it is imossible to find k m (1 above satisfying E.(3.12 rovided λ 2 ( mπ 2 T m N. Then however for each j = 12...m we can take τ [T such that λ = 2 ( jπ 2 T τ and Theorem 3.3 yields the solutions u j{τi } where {τ i } j i=1 is any seuence satisfying that τ i j i=1 τ i = τ. It follows directly from Reresentation (3.11 of Theorem 3.3 that a kind of solution of (PE with -Lalacian is also an eigenfunction of (E 2 with /2-Lalacian.
