1 RESTRICTED SUMMABIITY OF THE MUTI-DIMENSIONA CESÀRO MEANS OF WASH-KACZMARZ-FOURIER SERIES KÁROY NAGY, MOHAMED SAIM arxiv:8.0637v [math.ca] 6 Nov 208 Abstract. The properties of the maximal operator of the (C,α)-means (α = (α,...,α d )) of the multi-dimensional Walsh-Kaczmarz-Fourier series are discussed, where the set of indices is inside a cone-like set. We prove that the maximal operator is bounded from H γ p to p for p 0 < p (p 0 = max/(+α k ) : k =,...,d) and is of weak type (,). As a corollary we get the theorem of Simon [5] on the a.e. convergence of cone-restricted two-dimensional Fejér means of integrable functions. At the endpoint case p = p 0, we show that the maximal operator σ κ,α, is not bounded from the Hardy space H γ p 0 to the space p0. Key words and phrases: Walsh-Kaczmarz system, maximal operator, multi-dimensional system, restricted summability, a.e. convergence, Cesàro means. 200 Mathematics Subject Classification. 42C0.. Definitions and notation Now, we give a brief introduction to the theory of dyadic analysis (for more details see [, 3]). et P denote the set of positive integers, N := P {0}. Denote Z 2 the discrete cyclic group of order 2, that is Z 2 has two elements 0 and, the group operation is the modulo 2 addition. The topology is given by that every subset is open. The Haar measure on Z 2 is given such that the measure of a singleton is /2, that is, µ({0}) = µ({}) = /2. et G be the complete direct product of countable infinite copies of the compact groups Z 2. The elements of G are sequences of the form x = (x 0,x,...,x k,...) with coordinates x k {0,}(k N). The group operation on G is the coordinate-wise addition, the measure (denoted by µ) is the product measure and the topology is the product topology. The compact Abelian group G is called the Walsh group. A base for the neighbourhoods of G can be given by I 0 (x) := G, I n (x) := I n (x 0,...,x n ) := {y G : y = (x 0,...,x n,y n,y n+,...)}, (x G,n N), I n (x) are called dyadic intervals. et 0 = (0 : i N) G denote the null element ofg, and for the simplicity we writei n := I n (0)(n N). Set e n := (0,...,0,,0,...) G, the nth coordinate of which is and the rest are zeros (n N). et r k denote the k-th Rademacher function, it is defined by (k N, x G). r k (x) := ( ) x k The Walsh-Paley system is defined as the product system of Rademacher functions. Now, we give more details. If n N, then n can be expressed in the form n = n i 2 i, where i=0 Research supported by project TÁMOP A-//KONV , GINOP and UAEU UPAR 207 Grant G
2 2 KÁROY NAGY, MOHAMED SAIM n i {0,} (i N). Define the order of a natural number n by n := max{j N :n j 0}, that is 2 n n < 2 n +. The Walsh-Paley system is w n (x) := (r k (x)) n k = r n (x)( ) k=0 n n k x k k=0 (x G,n P). The Walsh-Kaczmarz functions are defined by κ 0 = and for n n κ n (x) := r n (x) (r n k (x)) n k = r n (x)( ) n k=0 k=0 n kx n k. The set of Walsh-Kaczmarz functions and the set of Walsh-Paley functions are equal in dyadic blocks. Namely, for all k P. Moreover, κ 0 = w 0. {κ n : 2 k n < 2 k+ } = {w n : 2 k n < 2 k+ } V.A. Skvortsov (see [8]) gave a relation between the Walsh-Kaczmarz functions and the Walsh-Paley functions. Namely, he defined a transformation τ A : G G τ A (x) := (x A,x A 2,...,x,x 0,x A,x A+,...) for A N. By the definition of τ A, we have the following connection et 0 < α and let A α j := ( j +α j κ n (x) = r n (x)w n 2 n (τ n (x)) (n N,x G). ) = (α+)(α+2)...(α+j) j! (j N;α, 2,...). It is known that A α j O(j α ) (j N) (see Zygmund [29]). The one-dimensional Dirichlet kernels and Cesáro kernels are defined by n Dn ψ := k=0 ψ k, K ψ,α n (x) := A α n n k=0 A α n k Dψ k (x), for ψ n = w n (n P) or ψ n = κ n (n P), D ψ 0 := 0. Choosing α = we defined the nth Fejér mean, as special case. For Walsh-Paley-Fejér kernel functions we have K n (x) 0, while n for every x 0. However, they can take negative values which is a different situation from the trigonometric case. On the other hand, for Walsh-Kaczmarz-Fejér kernel functions we have K n (x), while n at every dyadic rational. The last fact shows that the behavior of Walsh-Kaczmarz system worse than the behavior of Walsh-Paley system in this special sense. See later inequality (2), as well. It is well-known that the 2 n th Dirichlet kernels have a closed form (see e.g. [3]) () D w 2 n(x) = Dκ 2 n(x) = D 2 n(x) = { 0, if x I n, 2 n, if x I n.
3 RESTRICTED SUMMABIITY OF... 3 The Kronecker product ( ψ n : n N d) of d Walsh-(Kaczmarz) system is said to be the d-dimensional (multi-dimensional) Walsh-(Kaczmarz) system. That is, where n = (n,...,n d ) and x = (x,...,x d ). ψ n (x) = ψ n ( x )...ψ nd ( x d ), If f ( G d), then the number f ψ (n) := G d fψ n ( n N d ) is said to be the nth Walsh- (Kaczmarz)-Fourier coefficient of f. We can extend this definition to martingales in the usual way (see Weisz [23, 24]). The d-dimensional (C,α) (α = (α n,...,α nd )) or Cesàro mean of a martingale is defined by n σn ψ,α d j d f(x) := d A α i i= Aα i n i k i S ψ k (f;x). n i It is known that K ψ,α n n (x) = Kψ,α j= k j =0 i= (x )...K ψ,α d n d (x d ). In 948 Sneider [9] introduced the Walsh-Kaczmarz system and showed that the inequality (2) lim sup n D κ n (x) logn C > 0 holds a.e. This inequality shows a big difference between the two arrangements of Walsh system. In 974 Schipp [4] and Young [22] proved that the Walsh-Kaczmarz system is a convergence system. Skvortsov in 98 [8] showed that the Fejér means with respect to the Walsh-Kaczmarz system converge uniformly to f for any continuous functions f. Gát [3] proved for any integrable functions, that the Fejér means with respect to the Walsh-Kaczmarz system converge almost everywhere to the function. Moreover, he showed that the maximal operator σ κ, of Walsh-Kaczmarz-Fejér means is weak type (,) and of type (p,p) for all < p. Gát s result was generalized by Simon [6], who showed that the maximal operator σ κ, is of type (H p, p ) for p > /2. In the endpoint case p = /2 Goginava [7] proved that the maximal operator σ κ, is not of type (H /2, /2 ) and Weisz [26] showed that the maximal operator is of weak type (H /2, /2 ). Recently, the rate of the deviant behaviour in the endpoint p = /2 was discussed by Goginava and the author [9]. The case 0 < p < /2 can be found in the papers of Tephnadze [20, 2]. In 2004, the boundedness of the maximal operator of the Cesàro means (0 < α ) was investigated by Simon [7]. It was showed that the maximal operator is bounded from the Hardy space H p to the space p for p > p 0 := /(+α) and of weak type (,). Moreover, he showed the inequality (3) sup Kn κ,α < for all 0 < α. n In the endpoint case Goginava showed that the endpoint p 0 := /(+α) is essential. That is, he proved that the maximal operator of Cesàro means is not bounded from the Hardy space H p0 to the space p0 [8]. For x = (x,x 2,...,x d ) G d and n = (n,n 2,...,n d ) N d the d-dimensional rectangles are defined by I n (x) := I n (x ) I nd (x d ). For n N d the σ-algebra generated by the
4 4 KÁROY NAGY, MOHAMED SAIM rectangles {I n (x),x G d } is denoted by F n. The conditional expectation operators relative to F n are denoted by E n. Suppose that for allj = 2,...,d the functionsγ j : [,+ ) [,+ ) are strictly monotone increasing continuous functions with properties lim + γ j = + and γ j () =. Moreover, suppose that there exist ζ,c j,,c j,2 > such that the inequality (4) c j, γ j (x) γ j (ζx) c j,2 γ j (x) holds for each x. In this case the functions γ j are called CRF (cone-like restriction functions). et γ := (γ 2,...,γ d ) and β j be fixed (j = 2,...,d). We will investigate the maximal operator of the multi-dimensional (C, α) means and the convergence over a cone-like set (with respect to the first dimension), where := {n N d : β j γ j (n ) n j β j γ j (n ),j = 2,...,d}. If each γ j is the identical function then we get a cone. The cone-like sets were introduced by Gát in dimension two [4]. The condition (4) on the function γ is natural, because Gát [4] proved that to each cone-like set with respect to the first dimension there exists a larger cone-like set with respect to the second dimension and reversely, if and only if the inequality (4) holds. Weisz defined a new type martingale Hardy space depending on the function γ (see [25]). For a given n N set n j := γ j (2 n ) (j = 2,...,d), that is, n j is the order of γ j (2 n ) (this means that 2 n j γ j (2 n ) < 2 nj+ for j = 2,...,d). et n := (n,...,n d ). Since, the functions γ j are increasing, the sequence (n, n N) is increasing, too. It is given a class of one-parameter martingales f = (f n, n N) with respect to the σ-algebras (F n, n N). The maximal function of a martingale f is defined by f = sup n N f n. For 0 < p the martingale Hardy space H γ p (Gd ) consists of all martingales for which f H γ p := f p <. It is known (see [24]) that H γ p p for < p, where denotes the equivalence of the norms and spaces. Iff (G d ) then it is easy to show that the sequence (S 2 n,...,2 n d(f) : n = (n,...,n d ),n N) is a one-parameter martingale with respect to the σ-algebras (F n, n N). In this case the maximal function can also be given by for x G d. f (x) = sup n N mes(i n (x)) We define the maximal operator σ κ,α, σ κ,α, I n (x) by f(x) := sup f(u)dµ(u) = sup S 2 n,...,2 n d(f,x) n σ κ,α n f(x). For double Walsh-Paley-Fourier series, Móricz, Schipp and Wade [] proved that σ n f converge to f a.e. in the Pringsheim sense (that is, no restriction on the indices other than min(n,n 2 ) ) for all functions f log +. The a.e. convergence of Fejér means σ n f of integrable functions, where the set of indices is inside a positive cone around the identical function, that is β n /n 2 β is provided with some fixed parameter β, was proved by Gát [5] and Weisz [27]. A common generalization of results of Móricz, Schipp, Wade [] and Gát [5], Weisz [27] for cone-like set was given by the first author and Gát in [6]. Namely, n N
5 RESTRICTED SUMMABIITY OF... 5 a necessary and sufficient condition for cone-like sets in order to preserve the convergence property, was given. The trigonometric case was treated by Gát [4]. Connecting to the original paper [4] on trigonometric system, Gát asked the following. What could we state for other systems for example Walsh-Paley, Walsh-Kaczmarz and Vilenkin systems and for other means for example logarithmic means, Riesz means, (C,α) means? Some parts of Gát s question was answered by Weisz [25], Blahota and the first author [2, 2] and naturally in paper [6]. In 20, the properties of the maximal operator of the (C,α) and Riesz means of a multidimensional Vilenkin-Fourier series provided that the supremum in the maximal operator is taken over a cone-like set, was discussed by Weisz [25]. Namely, it was proved that the maximal operator is bounded from dyadic Hardy space H p to the space p for p 0 < p (p 0 := max{/(+α k ) : k =,...,d}) and is of weak type (,). Recently, it was showed that the index p 0 is sharp. Namely, it was proven that the maximal operator is not bounded from the dyadic Hardy space H p0 to the space p0 [2]. Detailed list of the reached results for one- and several dimensional Walsh-like systems can be found in [28]. For the two-dimensional Walsh-Kaczmarz-Fourier series Simon proved [5] that the conerestricted maximal operator of the Fejér means is bounded from the Hardy space H p to the space p for all /2 < p (here the set of indices is inside a positive cone around the identical function). That is, the a.e. convergence of cone-restricted Fejér means holds for the Walsh-Kaczmarz system, as well. Moreover, it was proved that p = /2 is essential. In 2007, Goginava and the first author proved that the cone-restricted maximal operator is not bounded from the Hardy space H /2 to the space weak- /2 [0]. The cone-like restricted two-dimensional maximal operator of Fejér means was discussed in [2]. Motivated by the works of Weisz [25], Simon [5] and the above mentioned question of Gát we prove that the maximal operator σ κ,α, is bounded from the dyadic Hardy space Hp γ to the space p for p 0 < p and is of weak type (,). As a corollary we get the theorem of Simon [5] on the a.e. convergence of cone-restricted Fejér means. At the endpoint p = p 0, we show that the maximal operator σ κ,α, is not bounded from the Hardy space Hp γ 0 to the space p0. In dimension 2, the case α = α 2 = was discussed in [2]. Unfortunately, the counterexample martingale and the method is not suitable for case 0 < α i < (i =,...,d). 2. Auxiliary propositions and main results First, we formulate our main theorems. Theorem. et γ be CRF. The maximal operator σ κ,α, is bounded from the Hardy space Hp γ to the space p for p 0 < p (p 0 := max{/(+α i );i =,...,d}). By standard argument we have that, if < p then σ κ,α, type (,). Theorem 2. et γ be CRF. Then for any f holds almost everywhere. lim n n σ κ,α n f = f is of type (p,p) and of weak We immediately have the theorem of Simon [5] as a corollary.

The maximal operator σ κ,α, from the Hardy space Hp γ 0 to the space p0. is not bounded To prove our Theorem, 2, 3 we need the following emma of Weisz [24], the concept of the atoms (for more details see [25]) and a emma of Goginava [8]. A bounded measurable function a is a p-atom, if there exists a dyadic d-dimensional rectangle I F n, such that a) suppa I, b) a µ(i) /p, c) adµ = 0. I emma (Weisz [24]). Suppose that the operator T is σ-sublinear and p-quasilocal for any 0 < p <. If T is bounded from to, then Tf p c p f Hp for all f H p. emma 2 (Goginava [8]). et n N and 0 < α. Then n max N<2 n(aα N Kα N (x) )/(+α) dµ(x) c(α) log(n+2). G Now, we prove our main Theorems. 3. Proofs of the theorems Proof of Theorem. Using emma of Weisz we have to prove that the operator σ κ,α, is bounded from the space to the space. It immediately follows from the inequality (3). et a be a p-atom, with support I. We can assume that I = I N... I Nd (with 2 N j γ j (2 N ) < 2 Nj+, j = 2,...,d), a 2 (N +...+N d )/p and adµ = 0. I Set δ := max{ζ log c j, 2β j + : j = 2,...,d}. If n 2 N /δ, then n j β j γ j (n ) β j γ j (2 N ζ log c j, 2β j ) β j c log c j, 2β j + j, γ j (2 N ) γ j(2 N ) 2 2 N j. ζ,c j,,c j,2 >, β j imply n < 2 N and n j γ j (2 N )/2 < 2 N j (j = 2,...,d). In this case the (m,...,m d )-th Fourier coefficients are zeros for m n,...,m d n d. This gives σ n f = 0 (n = (n,...,n d )). That is, we could suppose that n > 2 N /δ. This yields that n j γ j(n ) β j γ j(2 N /δ) β j β j c max{log c j, 2β j +:j=2,...,d} j,2 γ j (2 N ) γ j(2 N ) δ j 2N j δ

That is, there exists a constant c p such that the inequality σ κ,α, a p dµ c p < I is p-quasilocal for holds for all atom a in Hp γ with support I = I N... I Nd (with N = (N,...,N d )). It is well known that the concept of p-quasi-locality of the maximal operator σ κ,α, can be modified as follows [5]: there exists r = 0,,..., such that (5) σ κ,α, a p dµ c p <, I r where I r := I r N...
