B, Qualification Tests for Control Umbilicals. 1. Static Tests Rigs are mounted for mechanical static testing in umbilical. The following tests may be performed: - Tensile and Collapse Test - Axial Stiffness Characterization Test These tests are performed on the rig shown below, with a capacity of up to 500 tf.

12 Measurement of Strains in the Armour Pot
13 - Radial Mechanical Compression Test This test is performed on the same rig before, which is positioned a radial compression device, simulating the installation of the umbilical. This device consists of two, three or four shoes, and radial compression in each of which can be up to 100 tons. The shoes are mobile and can be adequate to simulate the geometry of installation. 16 - Bending Stiffness Characterization Test The rig is composed of a structure supported on rollers, on which is supported the sample. There is no limit for flexion force or the radius of curvature.
17 Force Application in the Bending Stiffness Characterization Test Measurement of the Radius of Curvature
18 - Friction Factor Characterization Test ( External and Internal ) These tests are conducted on a hard rig, consisting of a flanged pipe thickness. It used the same radial compression device, with two, three or four shoes, as explained in mechanical radial compression test. The hydraulic cylinders for tensile load application are different for test determining the external or internal friction. Assembly for the External Friction Factor Characterization Test

22 2. Dynamic Fatigue Tests The first rig is used to simulate installation conditions of a umbilical. The test, called the Low Cycle Installation Cyclic Bending Test, is performed according to the wheel-shaped device launch in figure below. This rig is also used for the realization of Tensile Test on Bending Jig.
23 Ship launch
24 Wheel launch
25 In this rig the umbilical may be subject to a maximum of 100 tf of tensile load, and the wheel has a diameter of 3.0 m with conforming in the upper and lower sections, which simulate the approximate diameter of 5.7 m of the wheel ship launch. The test duration is unlimited and can be performed for different periods of oscillation of the wheel. Are monitored, among others, tensile load, internal pressures in hoses, electrical resistance of cables and fiber optic signal.
26 In the following photos is shown on the rig operation. Umbilical Test Being Performed

30 The second rig can also be used to simulate the installation conditions of a umbilical. The umbilicals may be subject to a maximum tensile load of 100 tf with conforming to simulate the diameter of the wheel ship launch.

35 The same rig earlier, serves to achieve the Service Cyclic Bending Test - Full Scale Test and whose principle is shown in the figure below. These tests aims to simulate the requests in the region of the bend stiffener, during operation, with simultaneous variation of tensile load and bending angle. This rig is an adaptation of earlier, having the same capacity. In the following figure is shown the arrangement of the rig.
