hep-ph/ Detailed Balancing and Sea-Quark Flavor Asymmetry of Proton Yongjun Zhang Department of Physics, Peking University, Beijing, 0087, P. R. China arxiv:hep-ph/006074v2 7 Jun yongjunzhang@263.net Bin Zhang Department of Physics, Tsinghua University, Beijing, 00084, P. R. China (February 28, 2008) Abstract In this text, the protons are taken as an ensemble of Fock states. Using detailed balancing principle, some properties of intrinsic gluons and intrinsic sea quarks of proton involved statistics are gained without any parameter. A new origin of the light flavor sea-quark asymmetry is given here beside known models as Pauli blocking, meson-cloud, chiral-field, chiral-soliton and instantons Ee, 2.38.Lg, 4.20.Dh, 4.65.Bt Typeset using REVTEX
In the experiment, there are always a lot of protons involved, so it should convenient to deal protons in a big ensemble in which every proton is a system. But we do not know the wavefunction of proton and even do not know whether all the protons in the same pure wavefunction or not, so that we do not know the exact ensemble density matrix. However we can still extract some information in the following statistics method. First, take the ensemble density matrix on the basis of pure Fock state. Every Fock state here is a pure wavefunction represent as i, j, k; ψ(u ) ϕ(g ) which has fixed number partons and every parton has fixed single wavefunction. Here i is the number of pair ūu quarks, j is the number of pair dd quarks and k is number of gluons, ψ and ϕ are the wavefunctions of single partons. The partons in the Fock state are intrinsic that they are there in the rest frame via non-perturbative dynamics. These Fock state has the quantum numbers of proton: color singlet, spin, 2 valance up-quark, valance down-quark. The 2 Fock state in our definition is some like the light-cone Fock state used by Stanley J. Brodsky [] and n-parton Fock state used by Paul Hoyer and D.P. Roy [2]. Second, divide the ensemble density matrix into block on the new basis: subensemble, which represented as i, j, k. The subensemble i, j, k is defined as the assembly of all Fock state in the kind of i, j, k; ψ(u ) ϕ(g ) from the big ensemble, ρ i,j,k i, j, k i, j, k ψ ϕ ρ i,j,k,ψ ϕ i, j, k; ψ(u ) ϕ(g ) i, j, k; ψ(u ) ϕ(g ). () where ρ i,j,k,ψ ϕ is the ensemble density matrix element on the basis of pure Fock state and ρ i,j,k is the ensemble density matrix element on the basis of subensemble. The subensemble i, j, k has fixed number of partons and has quantum numbers of proton. The subensemble i, j, k also can be represented in the way i, j, k uud } ūu {{ ūu}} dd {{ dd } g g. (2) }{{} i j k Here we use the symbol to represent the subensemble which distinguish to pure Fock state. All kinds of subensemble can be written out as 2
uud, uudg, uudgg, uudūu, uudūug, uudūugg, uud dd, uud ddg, uud ddgg, (3) or written out as 0, 0, 0, 0, 0,, 0, 0, 2,, 0, 0,, 0,,, 0, 2, 0,, 0, 0,,, 0,, 2, (4) The diagonal part of ensemble density matrix on the basis of subensemble is ˆρ ρ 0,0,0 0, 0, 0 0, 0, 0 + ρ 0,0, 0, 0, 0, 0, + ρ 0,0,2 0, 0, 2 0, 0, 2 + +ρ,0,0, 0, 0, 0, 0 + ρ,0,, 0,, 0, + ρ,0,2, 0, 2, 0, 2 + +ρ 0,,0 0,, 0 0,, 0 + ρ 0,, 0,, 0,, + ρ 0,,2 0,, 2 0,, 2 + +, (5) where ρ i,j,k should satisfy normalizing condition, ρ i,j,k. (6) i,j,k Some information of the proton do hide in the diagonal element of this density matrix, ρ i,j,k. Using statistical property of the ensemble, the diagonal element can be calculated without any parameter in the following way. Let us trace one system(a proton) in the big ensemble(a pack of protons). At the time t 0, the system is in one state of a subensemble(a). After a while, at the time t δt, the state of this system has three probability: () not changed; (2) changed to another state belong the same subensemble(a); (3) changed to a state belong different subensemble(b). In the last case, the density of subensemble (A) decreased (ρ A ). On the other hand, some state in subensemble (B) will changed to subensemble(a) during same period, and 3
increase the density of subensemble (A) (ρ A ). These two anti-process just compensate each other, so ρ A unchanged. This is the so called detailed balacing, which demand every two subensemble balance each other. So we have ρ i,j,k i, j, k balance ρ i,j,k i, j, k, (7) ρ i,j,k { i, j, k i, j, k } ρ i,j,k { i, j, k i, j, k }, (8) ρ i,j,k ρ i,j,k i, j, k i, j, k i, j, k i, j, k. (9) In order to know the diagonal element of ensemble density matrix, ρ i,j,k, all that we need to know is the the ratio between the translation rate of process i, j, k i, j, k and the translation rate of process i, j, k i, j, k. But the translation rate is very complicate that maybe involved: proton s volume, mass; partons s number, quantum numbers(color, spin, flavor), cross section, exchange symmetry(pauli blocking), velocity and even the detail of the quantum wavefunctions. Here, among all these factors, we only take into account the number of partons and neglect the interaction involving g gg which is not important here. surprising, our simplified calculation give the correct flavor sea-quark asymmetry, which imply that the number of valance quark decide the statistical property of proton. The translation between two subensemble has two ways: splitting and recombination. Splitting rate is proportional to the number of the partons that may split. Recombination rate is proportional to both the number of those two kinds partons that may recombine. So we have the following two kinds of relations. () Detailed balancing involving q qg give the relation uud 3 3 uudg, (0) 4
3 uudg uudgg, () uudgg uudūu uudggg, (2) (3) uudūug, (4) (5) i, j, k i + j (i + j)k i, j, k. (6) then a general formula can be concluded using formula (9), (2) Detailed balancing involving g qq give the relation ρ i,j,k ρ i,j,k k, (7) ρ i,j,k ρ i,j,0 k!. (8) uudg 3 uudūu, (9) uudg 2 uud dd, (20) 5
uudūug uudūuūu, (2) 2 4 uudūug 2 uudūu dd, (22) (23) i, j, i(i + 2) i, j, 0, (24) i, j, j(j + ) i, j, 0. (25) Then a general formula can be concluded using formula (9), ρ i,j,0 ρ i,j, i(i + 2), (26) ρ i,j,0 ρ i,j, j(j + ). (27) Using relation ρ i,j, ρ i,j,0 gotten from formuala(8) to these two new formula, we get Merge formula(8), (30) to give the last general formula ρ i,j,0 2 ρ 0,j,0 i!(i + 2)!, (28) ρ i,j,0 ρ i,0,0 j!(j + )!, (29) ρ i,j,0 2 ρ 0,0,0 i!(i + 2)!j!(j + )!. (30) ρ i,j,k ρ 0,0,0 2 i!(i + 2)!j!(j + )!k!. (3) Then from normalizing condition(6) and formula(3), all ρ i,j,k can be calculate that shown in TABLE I. 6
From data of TABLE I, we got the number of intrinsic gluons and intrisic sea quarks of the proton, ū iρ i,j,k 0.308, (32) i,j,k d i,j,kjρ i,j,k 0.432, (33) g i,j,kkρ i,j,k 0.997, (34) d ū (35) Only flavor sea-quark asymmetry d ū can be checked by experiment directly because it s Q 2 dependence is small. Our data consist with recent experiment H [3] result d ū 0.8 ± This good agreement indicate that the detailed balancing play a great role in the structure of proton. About momentum scale behind our model, can be estimated in the following way, µ M Proton u + d + ū + d + g 938MeV MeV. (36) The average energy of partons should represent the momentum scale because the partons here almost massless. The heavy quark are neglect here because they are difficult to create from low energy intrinsic gluon. This method can be used to other baryons. All baryons are confined few body system that involved creation and annihilation of partons inner. The suitable method describe this character of baryon is detailed balancing which outlined in our text. Using this method, those property of baryon that does not depend on the detail dynamics can be estimated without any parameter. The d ū asymmetry in proton is given correctly here using this method. The intrinsic gluon and intrinsic sea quark in the proton are estimated reasonably too. We would like to thank to Wei-zhen Deng for helpful discussions. 7
