Abstract Abstract Motivation Introducing INCL-ABLA Light ion functionality Status of INCL4-ABLA implementation in Geant4 Future plans

Geant4 Ion talks in Pasadena Geant4 Ion talks in Pasadena A. Heikkinen, Status and Plans for Geant4 INCL-ABLA Implementations for Ions. Afternoon session: P. Truscott, Overview of Ion Physics and requirements for space applications T. Koi, Development Plan of Geant4 Ion Physics M. Mendenhall, Heavy Nucleus Fragmentation Theory and Experiment, and its Importance to Understanding the Space Environment

Motivation Motivation We want to have full coverage of complimentary hadronics models: Filling physics gaps We hope have up-to-date models, that provide improved physics performance Geant4 shower shapes (HEP) need to be improved Increased interest towards nuclear-nuclear interactions (requirements from space applications) CERN Geant4 INCL-ABLA mini-workshop, June 2006: INCL (Liegé cascade) and ABLA are currently actively developed, well published and validated codes We agreed with original developers (GSI, CEA, Liegé) to translate INCL-ABLA models into Geant4

Motivation INCL-ABLA The best reference to quote the present INCL4 version A. Boudard et al. Phys. Rev. C66 (2002) Most up-to-date talk: A. Boudard, Latest INCL-ABLA validations and developments, 11th Geant4 Collaboration Workshop LIP, Lisbon (Portugal), 9-14 October References of INCL code: J. Cugnon et al. Nuc. Phys. A462 (1987) 751 J. Cugnon et al. Nuc. Phys. A500 (1989) 701 J. Cugnon et al. Nuc. Phys. A352 (1981) 505 Fission model: Benlliure et al., Nucl. Phys. A 628 (1998) 458 Recent developments: Emission of light composite particles (A. Boudard et al. Nuc. Phys. A740 (2004) 195) Low energy sector (P. Henrotte et al.) Nuclear potential function of isospin and energy (Th. Aoust et al.)

Motivation ABLA For the ABLA code (contact Karl Heinz Schmidt) references look: A.R. Junghans et al. Nuc. Phys. A629 (1998) 635 J. Benlliure et al. Nuc. Phys. A628 (1998) 458 There is an improved ABLA version under study, which contains: Extended evaporation of light particles Detailed treatment of the fission channel

Motivation INCL-ABLA FORTRAN implementation We use INCL4 version same as implemented in LAHET-MCNPX 9k lines of code (INCL and ABLA as separate modules) Should be compiled (FORTRAN 77) and linked with the CERN library including PAW (cernlib packlib kernlib pawlib) INCL-ABLA is well documented and models extensively published

Introducing INCL-ABLA Introducing INCL-ABLA (A. Boudard)

INCL-ABLA Introducing INCL-ABLA (A. Boudard)

Light ion functionality Introducing INCL-ABLA (A. Boudard et al.)

Light ion functionality Light ion functionality (A. Boudard et al.)

Light ion functionality Light ion functionality (A. Boudard et al.)

Light ion functionality Potential of INCL5 for nuclear-nuclear physics (A. Boudard)

Interfacing Geant4 with INCL-ABLA Interfacing Geant4 with INCL-ABLA We will provide FORTRAN INCL-ABLA for Geant4 collaborators: First release for (h-a interactions) this week (week 45, 2006) Release for nuclear-nuclear interactions on week 48 We don t make these internal releases public We use ROOT instead of PAW P. Kaitaniemi, Status of implementing INCL and ABLA codes into Geant4, IEEE/NSS-MIC, San Diego, 2006.

Future plans Future plans Saclay meeting November 21-24: A. Boudard, J. Cugnon, P. Kaitaniemi, G. Folger, A. Heikkinen We want to be sure of common goal Redesigning INCL5-ABLA using C++ and being prepared to INCL5 is demanding task P. Kaitaniemi will work with A. Boudard extended periods on several occasions: First we do raw translation from FORTRAN On March first release with OO design On May second, hopefully mature, release INCL5 is now under testing and it will be made available in Geant4 in due time Support and future development will continue with the same team

Conclusion Conclusion We have given an introduction to INCL4-ABLA code, and focused to light nuclear-nuclear physics: Extended functionality and improved physics performance compared current Geant4 8.1 release Current status of interfacing INCL4-ABLA to Geant4 was reported: Internal release in November 2006 Plans and timetable to translate these FORTRAN codes to C++ were outlined: INCL-ABLA extension on Geant4 hadronics is of high priority First public release is expected to be in April 2007 Ion physics potential of INCL5 was briefly noted: Now under testing Available for Geant4 users late 2007?
