EQUIVALENCE OF REAL MILNOR S FIBRATIONS FOR QUASI HOMOGENEOUS SINGULARITIES arxiv: v1 [math.gt] 20 Feb 2008 ARAÚJO DOS SANTOS, R. Abstract. We are going to use the Euler s vector ields in order to show that or real quasi-homogeneous singularities with isolated critical value, the Milnor s ibration in a thin hollowed tube involving the zero level and the ibration in the complement o link in sphere are equivalents, since they exist. Moreover, in order to do that, we explicitly characterize the critical points o projection : Sm ǫ \ K ǫ S 1, where K ǫ is the link o singularity. 1. Introduction It is well known (see or instance [Mi]) the Milnor studies about ibrations in a neighborhood o a (isolated)critical point. For real isolated mappings, he showed that i : R m, 0 R p, 0, m p 2, is a real polynomial map germ whose derivative D has rank p on a punctured neighborhood o 0 R m, then there exists ǫ > 0 and η > 0, suiciently small 0 < η ǫ < 1, such that considering E : Bǫ m (0) 1 (Sη p 1 ), where Bǫ m(0) is the open ball centered in 0 Rm with radius ǫ, we have that E : E S p 1 η (1) is a smooth locally trivial ibre bundle. Furthermore, using the low o a vector ields ω(x) in B m ǫ (0) \ { 0} satisying the conditions: { ω(x), x > 0; ω(x), ( (x) 2 ) > 0, Milnor constructed a dieomorphism that pushes E to S m 1 ǫ an open tubular neighborhood o the link K ǫ in S m 1 ǫ be extended to the complement o the link K ǫ in the sphere Sǫ m 1 ibration \N Kǫ, where N Kǫ denotes. Moreover, this ibre bundle can, providing this way a Sǫ m 1 \ K ǫ S p 1. (2) As is obviously seen in example below, in all these constructions we cannot guarantee that the natural map is the projection o the ibration(see details in example.3.2): Date: February 21,
2 A. DOS SANTOS Example 1.1. [Mi, page 99] { P x Q x 2 + y(x 2 + y 2 ) In what ollow we are going to characterize the critical points o the projection map : Sm 1 ǫ \ K ǫ S 1 (see Lemma.3.1) in order to understand whether the ibrations (1) and (2) are equivalents(see deinition 5.1). In act, we will prove that or real non-isolated quasi-homogeneous singularities these two ibrations are equivalents, since they exists. 2. Deinitions and setup Deinition 2.1. [RSV] Let ψ : (R m, 0) (R p, 0), m p 2, be a map germ with isolated singularity at the origin. I or all ǫ > 0 suiciently small, the map φ ψ ψ : Sm 1 ǫ \ K ǫ S p 1, is a projection o a smooth locally trivial ibre bundle, where K ǫ is the link o singularity at 0(or empty), we say that the map germ satisies the Strong Milnor condition at origin 0 R m. This problem irst appeared in [Ja1], [Ja2], and urther have been developed in [RSV], [Se1], [Se2], [RS], [SM]. Consider : R m, 0 R 2, 0, (x) (, Q(x)), where P, Q : R m, 0 R, 0 are polynomial unctions. Deine ω(x) Q(x) Q(x) and e(x) (w 1 x 1,..., w m x m ), w i Q + or all i 1,..., m. Suppose that P, Q : R m R are quasi(weighted-) homogeneous o type (w 1,..., w m ; b 1 ) and (w 1,..., w m ; b 2 ), i.e, P(λ w 1 x 1,..., λ wm x m ) b 1 and Q(λ w 1 x 1,..., λ wm x m ) b 2 Q(x), or some λ R +. In this case we say that the unctions P and Q are quasi-homogeneous o same weight and degrees b 1 and b 2, respectively. The vector ields e(x) is called the Euler s vector ields to P and Q. This well known vector ields satisies the ollowing property:,e(x) b 1, Q(x),e(x) b 2 Q(x). In this paper I will show that or quasi-homogeneous map : R m, 0 R 2, 0, o same weight and degree, the two ibrations above, (1) and (2) are equivalents. Moreover, the dieomorphism which provide this equivalence is given by the low o Euler s vector ields. The main result is: Theorem 2.2. Let (P, Q) : R m, 0 R 2, 0 quasi-homogeneous polynomial map germ o same type and degree, with an isolated critical value at origin 0 R 2. Suppose that the two ibrations, (1) and (2) exists. Then, they are equivalents.
LOCAL FIBRATIONS OF REAL MAP GERMS 3 Corollary 2.3. Consider h : C m, 0 C, 0, h(z) (z)g(z), where, g : C m C are holomorphic unctions. Suppose that 0 C is a isolated critical value o h and the pair (Re(h(z)), Im(h(z))) are quasi-homogeneous o same weight and degree. Then, the two ibrations (1) and (2) are equivalents. This kind o ibration have been urther studied in [Se2] and [Pi]. 3. Critical points o projection In what ollows we are considering a real analytic map germ (P, Q) : (R m, 0) (R 2, 0), and the projection : Sm 1 ǫ \ K ǫ S 1. Notation: For a general smooth unction g : R m R, or convenience we will denote the derivative g(x) by i g(x); x i In the sequence we shall see that the vector ields ω(x) Q(x) above shows a important role in order to describe the critical points o the map projection. The lemma below appeared irst in [Ja2], but here we are given a dierent proo. Lemma 3.1. [Ja2] A point x S m 1 ǫ or some real λ. Proo. We know that matrix is J( (x) (x) ) ( ( \ K ǫ is a critical point o i, and only i, the vector ω(x) λx, (x) (x) ( Q(x) 2 + Q(x) 2, and the jacobian 2 + Q(x) 2) 2 +Q(x) 2) Q(x) 2 +Q(x) 2) So, using notation above we have:. i ( 2 + Q(x) 2) i() 2 + Q(x) 2 i ( 2 + Q(x) 2 ) ( ). 2 + Q(x) 2 The second derivative on numerator is 2( i + Q(x) i Q(x)) Q(x) 2. (#) Combining ( ) and (#) we have: i ( 2 + Q(x) 2) i()( 2 + Q(x) 2 ) (( i + Q(x) i Q(x))) ( 2 + Q(x) 2 ) 3 2
4 A. DOS SANTOS Q(x) 2 i Q(x) i Q(x) ( ( 2 + Q(x) 2 ) 3 2 ( 2 + Q(x) 2 ) 3 i Q(x) Q(x) i ), or 2 all i 1,..., n It means that the irst line o jacobian matrix is ( Q(x) Q(x) ), or ω(x). ( 2 + Q(x) 2 ) 3 2 ( 2 + Q(x) 2 ) 3 2 Similarly, we have Q(x) i ( 2 + Q(x) 2) i(q(x)) 2 + Q(x) 2 Q(x) i ( 2 + Q(x) 2 ) 2 + Q(x) 2 i(q(x))( 2 + Q(x) 2 ) Q(x)(( i + Q(x) i Q(x))) ( 2 + Q(x) 2 ) i Q(x) Q(x) i ( 2 + Q(x) 2 ) 3 2 ( )ω(x). ( 2 + Q(x) 2 ) 3 2 It means that the jacobian matrix have the ollowing lines J( (x) (x) ) ( )ω(x) ( 2 +Q(x) 2 ) 2 3. ( )ω(x) ( 2 +Q(x) 2 ) 3 2 O course that, J( (x) (x) ) : T x(s m 1 \ K ǫ ) T (x) S 1 R, so x S m 1 \K ǫ is a critical (x) point o (x) i, and only i, or all vectors v T x(s m 1 \ K ǫ ) we have J( (x) (x) ).v ( )ω(x) ( 2 +Q(x) 2 ) 3 2.v ( )(ω(x).v) ( ) ( 2 +Q(x) 2 ) ( )ω(x) ( )(ω(x).v) 0 ( 2 +Q(x) 2 ) 3 2 ( 2 +Q(x) 2 ) 3 2 Now, it is pretty easy to see that the critical locus o the map (x) is precisely the (x) points x where ω(x) is parallel to vector position x. Example 3.2. { P x Q x 2 + y(x 2 + y 2 ) It is easy to see that P(x, y) (1, 0), Q(x, y) (2x + 2xy, x 2 + 3y 2 ). So, ω(x, y) (x 2 + yx 2 y 3, x 3 + 3xy 2 ). The points (x, y) where the vector ields ω(x, y) is parallel to vector position (x, y) is equivalent to ω(x, y), ( y, x) 0. From the last equation we have 0 ω(x, y), ( y, x) (x 2 + y 2 ) 2 yx 2. Now using polar coordinates, x r cos(θ), y r sin(θ), in the last equation we have r sin(θ). cos 2 (θ), which is a nondegenerate curve going throughout origin.
LOCAL FIBRATIONS OF REAL MAP GERMS 5 4. Preliminar results In order to proo main theorem we will do some small results which provide us extras inormations. Let s see next that in our setting the projection is regular, i.e, have maximal rank. Lemma 4.1. Under conditions o Theorem 2.2 above we have ω(x),e(x) 0. Proo. : It ollows rom easy calculation since ω(x),e(x) Q(x),e(x) Q(x),e(x) bq(x) Q(x)b 0. Remark 4.2. Since e(x), x m i1 w ix 2 i, then e(x), x 0 i x 0. Lemma 4.3. Consider V {x R m : Q(x) 0} 1 (0). Then, or all x B ǫ (0) \ V the vector ields ω(x) and the vector position x are not parallels. Proo. I ω(x) were parallel to x applying the Lemma 4.1 above we have x,e(x) 0. By remark 4.2, this contradict the hypothesis that x B ǫ (0) \ V. Lemma 4.4. For ǫ small enough, there exist a smooth vector ields α on B ǫ (0) \ V satisying the ollowing conditions: (a) α(x), x > 0; (b) α(x), ( (x) 2 > 0, where ( (x) 2 ) 2.( + Q(x) Q(x)). (c) α(x), γ(x) 0, where γ(x) Q(x) Q(x). Proo. Consider α(x) : e(x) (w 1 x 1,..., w m x m ) the Euler vector ields. The conditions a) and c) ollows rom Lemma 4.1 and Remark 4.2. Condition b): Since ( (x) 2 )(x) 2.( + Q(x) Q(x)), then, ( (P, Q) 2 )(x), α(x) 2.(, α(x) + Q(x) Q(x), α(x) ) 2b.(P 2 (x) + Q 2 (x)), where b is the degree o quasi-homogeneity. Thereore, ( (P, Q) 2 )(x), α(x) > 0 5. Equivalence o Milnor ibrations Deinition 5.1. We say that two smooth locally trivial ibre bundle : M B and g : N B are C k equivalents(or C k isomorphic), k 0, 1,..., i there exist a C k dieomorphism h such that the ollowing diagram is commutative: M h N g B
6 A. DOS SANTOS Proo. (Theorem.2.2) Given a small enough ǫ > 0 and η such that 0 < η ǫ 1 consider the two ibrations, : B ǫ (0) 1 (Sη) 1 Sη 1 and : S ǫ \ K ǫ S 1. By a dieomorphism in R 2 we can consider 1 : B η ǫ(0) 1 (Sη 1) S1. For each x B ǫ (0) \ V consider p(s) the low through x o vector ields α in B ǫ (0) \ V given by Lemma.4.3. That is, p (s) α(p(s)) with p(s 0 ) x. By item a) this low is transverse to all small sphere o radium 0 < ǫ 1 ǫ; by item b) it is transverse or all Milnor tube B ǫ (0) 1 (Sη 1 ), or all η > 0, suiciently small, and inally the item c) says that i the low o vector ields α starts in a iber F c ( ) 1 (c) it will stay there all time in which it is deined. Because, using Proposition.3.1 and item (c) above, we have d ds ( (α(s)) ) 0. It means that (α(s) ) (α(s)) c, or all s in some maximal interval. (α(s) ) O course, that item (a) says that this low shall intersect S ǫ \ K ǫ in some point say y. Then, deining h : B ǫ (0) 1 (Sη 1) S ǫ \ K ǫ by h(x) y, this smooth dieomorphism h is what we are looking or. Corollary 5.2. Let (P, Q) : R m, 0 R 2, 0, m 2, a polynomial quasi-homogeneous map germ, o same weight and degree. Suppose has isolated critical point at origem 0 R m. Then, the ibrations (1) and (2) are equivalents. Proo. In [SM] the authors proved that a necessary and suicient condition to existence o ibration (2) is that the projection : S ǫ 0 \ K ǫ0 S 1 be a submersion or all ǫ > 0, small enough, which is equivalent to have Q(x) Q(x) and the vector position x linearly independent in B ǫ (0) \ V. By Lemma.4.1, these two vectors are orthogonal in B ǫ (0) \ V hence, the projection is submersion and the ibration (2) exist. Since we have isolated singularity at origin, by Milnor result [Mi] we have the existence o ibration (1). Now, applying the main theorem we have that these two ibrations are equivalents. Remark 5.3. A similar approach to prove that these two ibrations are equivalents appear in [SM], but in a slight dierent way. Reerences [Ja1] A. Jacquemard, Thèse 3ème cycle Université de Dijon, [Ja2] A.
