Exitence of Invariant Meaure for Reflected SPDE Jadeep Kali. arxiv:82.34v math.pr 7 Dec 28 Mathematical Intitute, Univerity of Oxford December, 28 Abtract In thi article, we cloe a gap in the literature by proving exitence of invariant meaure for reflected SPDE with only one reflecting barrier. Thi i done by arguing that the equence (u(t, )) t i tight in the pace of probability meaure on continuou function and invoking the Krylov-Bogolyubov theorem. A we no longer have an a priori bound on our olution a in the two-barrier cae, a key apect of the proof i the derivation of a uitable L p bound which i uniform in time. Introduction and Statement of Theorem The aim of thi paper i to argue exitence of invariant meaure for reflected SPDE of the form u t = W uf(x,u(t,x))σ(x,u(t,x)) 2 η, (.) t x where (t,x), ),, u atifie Dirichlet boundary condition u(t,) = u(t,) = and the initial initial data u lie in the pace C ((,)). The meaure η i a reflection meaure which minimally puhe u upward to enure that u. We aume in thi paper that the volatility coefficient, σ, i globally bounded. Such equation were originally tudied by Nualart and Pardoux in 6 and they proved exitence and uniquene for the cae where σ i contant. Donati-Martin and Pardoux then proved exitence for volatility coefficient σ which are Lipchitz with linear growth in 4. Finally, Xu and Zhang proved exitence and uniquene for the equation where f and σ atify Lipchitz and linear growth condition in. All of thee paper focued on the cae where the patial domain i a finite interval,,, with Dirichlet condition impoed on the endpoint. Otobe extended the exitence theory to the cae when the patial domain i R in 8, proving uniquene for the cae when σ i contant. Uniquene ha alo been hown by Hambly and Kali in 5 for the equation on an unbounded domain provided that σ atifie a Lipchitz condition, with a Lipchitz coefficient which decay exponentially fat in the patial variable. Some intereting propertie of the olution have been proved. In 2, the contact et for the olution are tudied in the cae where the drift, f, i zero and the volatility, σ, i contant. In particular, it i hown that at all poitive time, the olution i equal to zero at at mot four point almot urely. In 3, Zambotti examine the behaviour of the reflection meaure in more detail, howing that it i abolutely continuou with repect to Lebegue meaure in the pace variable, and alo that for each point x in pace thee denitie can be viewed a renormalied local time jadeep.kali@math.ox.ac.uk
Exitence of Invariant Meaure for Reflected SPDE 2 procee for (u(t,x)) t. Zhang proved the trong Feller property of olution in 4, and together with Xu proved a large deviation reult for equence of olution to uch equation with vanihingly mall noie in. In thi paper, we are intereted in invariant meaure for thee equation. There are ome reult on thi topic in the literature. Zambotti proved in 2 that the law of the 3D-Beel bridge i an invariant meaure for the equation when σ i contant. Otobe then extended thi reult to the cae where the patial domain i R in 7, proving that the invariant meaure i uch that the conditional law in an interval i a 3D Beel bridge with uitable ditribution for the endpoint. For the cae when the equation ha two reflecting wall, above and below the SPDE olution, exitence and uniquene of invariant meaure wa proved by Yang and Zhang in. The proof here relied on theapriori boundon the infinity normof theolution, which i provided by the obtacle. Recently, Xie ha proved that invariant meaure for the one barrier cae, (.), are unique when they exit, provided that there exit trictly poitive contant c and c 2 uch that c σ(x,u) c 2 in 9. To the knowledge of the author, exitence of invariant meaure in the cae where there i only reflection at zero ha not been proved in the exiting literature. We cloe thi gap here, under the aumption that the volatility coefficient i bounded. We tart by howing that, by lowing down time, we can aume without lo of generality that the Lipchitz and linear growth condition on our coefficient are mall. In Section 3 we then prove an L p bound for our olution when it ha been multiplied by an exponential function which dampen the value backward in time. Thi control eentially replace the a priori bound for the two barrier cae in the argument in. Finally, we are able to prove tightne by uniformly controlling the Hölder norm of the olution, adapting the argument of 3 and in order to do o. Before tating the main theorem of thi paper, we recall the definition of a olution to a reflected SPDE. We work on a complete probability pace (Ω,F,P), with W a pace-time white noie on thi pace. Thi pace i equipped with the filtration generated by W, F W t, which can be written a F W t := σ({w(a) A B(,t,}) N, where N here denote the P-null et. We further aume that there exit contant C f,c σ > uch that the drift and volatility coefficient, f and σ atify the following condition: (I) For every u,v R and every x,, (II) For every u,v R and every x,, f(x,u) f(x,v) C f u v. σ(x,u) σ(x,v) C f u v. (III) For every x,, u R, (IV) For every x,, u R, f(x,u) C σ (u). σ(x,u) C σ. Definition.. We ay that the pair (u,η) i a olution the SPDE with reflection u t = W uf(x,u(t,x))σ(x,u(t,x)) 2 x t η with Dirichlet condition u(t,) = u(t,) = and initial data u(,x) = u C ((,)) if
Exitence of Invariant Meaure for Reflected SPDE 3 (i) u i a continuou adapted random field on R, uch that u almot urely. (ii) η i a random meaure on R (,) uch that: (a) For every t, η({t} (,)) =, (b) For every t, x( x)η(d,dx) <, (c) η i adapted in the ene that for any meaurable mapping ψ: ψ(,x) η(d,dx) i F W t meaurable. (iii) For every t and every φ C,2 (,t,) with φ(,) = φ(,) = for every,t, u(t,x)φ(t,x)dx = almot urely. (iv) u(t,x) η(dt,dx) =. u(,x)φ(,x)dx u(,x) φ (,x) dxd t u(,x) 2 φ x 2(,x)dxd φ(x)σ(x,u(,x))w(d,dx) f(x, u(, x))φ(x)dxd φ(x) η(d, dx) We now tate the main reult of the paper, which tate that reflected SPDE of the form (.) have invariant meaure. Theorem.2. Suppoe that f and σ atify the condition (I)-(IV). There exit an invariant probability meaure for the reflected tochatic heat equation (.). 2 Reduction of the Problem In thi ection, we how that it i enough to conider the cae where the Lipchitz and linear growth coefficient for f and σ are ufficiently mall. We argue thi point by a determinitic time change, noting that thi will not affect propertie related to the exitence and law of any invariant meaure. Thee reult will implify ome of our later argument, where we will aume that the coefficient are ufficiently mall in order to obtain ome helpful bound on the SPDE olution. Propoition 2.. Let u olve the reflected SPDE u x = W uf(x,u(t,x))σ(x,u(t,x)) 2 x t η, with Dirichlet boundary condition u(t,) = u(t,) = and initial data u C ((,)). Fix κ > and define v(t,x) := u(κt,x). Alo let η be a random meaure given by η(a) := η(ã), where we define à := {(t,x), ), (t/κ,x) A}. Then the pair (v, η) olve the SPDE with reflection at zero v x = v κf(x,v(t,x)) κσ(x,v(t,x)) 2 W x t η,
Exitence of Invariant Meaure for Reflected SPDE 4 with Dirichlet boundary condition v(t,) = v(t,) = and initial data u, where W i the white noie proce uch that, for t and A B(R), W(,t A) = κ W(,κt A). Proof. We have that v i continuou on, ), and that v almot urely. In addition, for everyt andx,, v(t,x)i Fκt W-meaurable. Byourdefinitionof W, thiimplyaertthat v(t,x) i F W t -meaurable. Similarly, wehave that therandommeaure η i adapted to thefiltration F W t. We now how that v atifie the weak form. Take a tet function, ϕ C,2 (,T, with ϕ(t, ) C ((,)) for every t. Teting the equation for u with the function ξ(t,x) := ϕ(t/κ,x) then give that u(κt, x)ξ(κt, x)dx = u (x)ξ(,x) dx κt κt κt u(,y) 2 ξ x2(,y) dyd u(,y) ξ (,y) dyd t κt σ(,v(,y))ξ(,y) W(dy,d) Changing variable, noting that ξ t (,y) = φ κ t (/κ,y), we obtain that v(t,x)ϕ(t,x) dx = u (x)ϕ(,x) dx κ v(,y) 2 ϕ x2(,y) dydκ f(y,u(,y))ξ(,y) dyd κt v(,y) ϕ (,y) dyd t σ(,v(,y))ϕ(,y) W(dy,d) ξ(,y) η(dy,d). f(y,v(,y))ϕ(,y) dyd ϕ(, y) η(dy, d). Finally, we note that p( η) = {(t,x), ), (κt,x) p(η)} and p(η) {(t,x), ), u(t,x) = }, from which it follow that p( η) {(t,x), ), v(t,x) = }. We therefore have the reult. Remark 2.2. We have hown that v olve a reflected SPDE where the drift and volatility coefficient, C f and C σ have been caled by κ and κ repectively in comparion to our original equation. Thi will allow u to aume wlog that thee coefficient are a mall a we require for the bound which we produce later. 3 An L p bound for olution to reflected SPDE The aim of thi ection i to prove the following Theorem. Theorem 3.. Suppoe that (u, η) olve the reflected tochatic heat equation (.). Aume that the volatility function, σ i bounded. Then we have that, for any α > and p, E T> t T x, u(t,x)e α(t t) p <. (3.)
Exitence of Invariant Meaure for Reflected SPDE 5 Such a bound will later enable u to obtain uniform Hölder-type etimate for the function u(t, ). The firt tep toward obtaining thi bound i undertanding the equation atified by ũ(t,x) := e α(t t) u(t,x). Propoition 3.2. Let u olve the reflected SPDE (.). Let ũ(t,x) := e α(t t) u(t,x) for ome α,t >. Then ũ olve the reflected SPDE where ũ t = ũ f(t,x,ũ(t,x)) σ(t,x,ũ(t,x)) 2 W η, (3.2) x t. f(t,x,z) = e α(t t) f(x,e α(t t) z)αz. 2. σ(t,x,z) = e α(t t) σ(x,e α(t t) z). 3. η(dx,dt) = e α(t t) η(dx,dx). Proof. Thi can be hown by teting the equation and a change of variable, imilarly to the proof of Propoition 2.. We now preent ome etimate for the heat kernel. We will then be able to bound the olution to our SPDE by firt writing them in mild form and then applying thee etimate, together with Burkholder inequality and Hölder inequality. Propoition 3.3. Let G denote the Dirichlet heat kernel on,. The following etimate hold: x, Proof. We have the following expreion for G G(,x,y) = 2 G(,x,y)dyd <. e k2 π 2 in(kπx)in(kπy). k= Calculating, we have that G(t,x,y) dydt = 2 e k2 π 2t in(kπx)in(kπy) dydt k= ( ) 2 e k2 π 2t in(kπy) dydt = 2 e k2 π 2 t in(kπy) dy dt 2 k= k= e k2 π 2t dt = k= 2 k 2 π 2 = 3. k= Propoition 3.4. The following etimate hold for p > 4. For every,t > uch that t ( t p/(p 2) G(t r,x,z) dr) 2 dz x (p 2)/2 C p t p 4/4.
Exitence of Invariant Meaure for Reflected SPDE 6 2. For every t uch that t ( p/(p 2) (G(t r,x,z) G( r,x,z) dr) 2 dz x 3. For every x,y, ( p/(p 2) (G(t r,x,z) G(t r,y,z) dr) 2 dz t Proof. We note that G(t,x,y) = n= 4πt n= exp ( (p 2)/2 (p 2)/2 C p t p 4/4. C p x y p 4/2. ) ( ) (x y 2n)2 (xy 2n)2 exp. 4t 4t We can write thi a ( ) ( ) ( ) exp (x y)2 exp (x y)2 (xy 2)2 exp L(t,x,y), 4πt 4t 4t 4t where L i a mooth function which vanihe at t =. To control the contribution of the firt three term, ee the proof of Propoition A. and Propoition A.4 in 5 for detail. Note that the contant will not depend on t for thi cae. The reidual component L can alo be controlled by differentiating under the um. Equipped with thee heat kernel etimate, we can now prove the following bound on the white noie term which will appear in the mild form for ũ. Propoition 3.5. Suppoe that σ i bounded and α >. Define for t T, x, I T 2 (t,x) := Then for p and γ (,), T> E,t,T, T e α(t ) G(t,x,y)σ(y,u(,y))W(dy,d). x,y,,x y ( ) p I2 T(t,x) IT 2 (,y) t γ/4 x y γ/2 <. Proof. Fix n N. Let t, n,n and x,y,. Aume wlog that t. We have that p E I2 T (t,x) IT 2 (,y) p C p E e α(t r) G(t r,x,z)σ(z,u(r,y))w(dz,dr) p C p E e α(t r) σ(z,u(r,z))(g(t r,x,z) G( r,x,z))w(dz,dr) p C p E e α(t r) σ(z,u(r,z))(g( r,x,z) G( r,y,z))w(dz,dr).
Exitence of Invariant Meaure for Reflected SPDE 7 Applying Burkholder inequality to each of thee term allow u to bound the right hand ide by p/2 C p E e 2α(T r) G(t r,x,z) 2 σ 2 (z,u(r,y))dzdr p/2 C p E e 2α(T r) (G(t r,x,z) G( r,x,z)) 2 σ 2 (z,u(r,z))dzdr p/2 C p E e 2α(T r) (G( r,x,z) G( r,y,z)) 2 σ 2 (z,u(r,z))dzdr. We focuon thefirtof thee termand notethat theargument fortheother two areeentially the ame, the difference being in which inequality from Propoition 3.4 we apply. Since σ i bounded and,t n,n, we have that e α(t r) σ 2 (z,u(r,z)) σ 2 e α(t (n)) for (r,z),t,. Thi give that: p/2 E e 2α(T r) G 2 (t r,x,z)σ 2 (z,u(r,y))dzdr C σ e αp(t (n))/2 By Hölder inequality we have that e α(t r) G 2 (t r,x,z)dzdr p/2 e α(t r) G(t r,x,z) 2 dzdr ( t p/(p 2) e αp(t r)/2 dr G(t r,x,z) dr) 2 dz e αpt/2 dt ( p/(p 2) G(t r,x,z) dr) 2 dz p/2 (p 2)/2. (p 2)/2 By inequality () from Propoition 3.4, thi i at mot C p,α t (p 4)/2. Arguing imilarly for the other term, we obtain that for t, n,n and x,y, E I2 T (t,x) I2 T (,y) p C p,σ e αp(t (n))/2( (p 4)/2. t x y ) /2 Let p be large enough o that γ < (p )/p. We can then apply Corollary A.3 from to obtain that for t, n,n and x,y, I T 2 (t,x) I T 2 (,y) X n ( t /2 x y ) γ/2.. almot urely, where EX p n C γ,p,σ e αp(t (n))/2. (3.3)
Exitence of Invariant Meaure for Reflected SPDE 8 Therefore, for every t,,t, x,y,, Let X := I T 2 (t,x) I T 2 (,y) max n {,,... T } X n E X P T E n= X n max n {,,... T } X n. Calculating give that p T T E e αp(t (n))/4 Xn p n= where q = p/(p ). By (3.3), we obtain that thi i at mot e αp(n)/4 C γ,p,σ n=,t,t, T x,y,,x y n= e αq(n)/4 Importantly, thi i independent of T. By (3.4), we then have that ( ) p E I2 T(t,x) IT 2 (,y) t γ/4 x y γ/2 Taking the remum over T > conclude the proof. Corollary 3.6. Let I T 2 ( t /2 x y ) γ/2 (3.4) p/q be a in Propoition 3.5. For p, we have E I2 T,T C γ,p,σ,α. T> n= e αq(t (n))/4 = C γ,p,σ,α <. C γ,p,σ,α. Proof. Note that I(t,) = for every t almot urely. Fix ome γ (,). Then, for x (,, I(t,x) = I(t,x) I(t,) I(t,x) I(t,) x γ/2 ((t,x),(,y)) A T p/q I2 T(t,x) IT 2 (,y) t γ/4 x y γ/2. (3.5) By taking the remum on the left hand ide and then taking the L p (Ω)-norm, we ee that the reult follow from Propoition 3.5. We are now in poition to prove the main Theorem for thi ection. Proof of Theorem 3.. Fix T >. Let ũ be a in Propoition 3.2. Then ũ olve the reflected SPDE (3.2). Let ṽ(t,x) olve the SPDE ṽ t = ṽ f(t,x,ũ(t,x)) σ(t,x,ũ(t,x)) 2 W x t. We then have, by Theorem.4 in 6, that ũ,t 2 ṽ,t almot urely. Writing ṽ in mild form give ṽ(t,x) = G(t,x,y) f(,y,ũ(,y))dyd e α(t ) G(t,x,y)σ(,y,ũ(,y))W(dyd) =: I T (t,x)i T 2 (t,x).,
Exitence of Invariant Meaure for Reflected SPDE 9 It follow that ( E ũ p,t C p E I T p,t E I2 T,T ) p. (3.6) Bounding the I T term, we obtain by applying Propoition 3.3: I T (t,x) = G(t,x,y) f(,y,ũ) dyd (C f α) G(t,x,y)ũ(,y) dyd C f Thi give that (C f α) ũ,t C f 3. E I T p (C f α) p ũ p,t,t C p p Cf 3 p C p 3 p. Applying Corollary 3.6 and uing the inequality (3.6), we obtain that G(t,x,y) dyd E ũ p,t C γ,p,σ,α,f 3 C p(c f α) p E ũ p,t. (3.7) Uing our analyi from Section 2, we can aume wlog that C f i mall. We can alo chooe α to be mall, a the reult for larger value of α follow from the reult for maller α. We therefore chooe C f and α mall enough o that C p (C f α) p <. It then follow by imple rearrangement of (3.7) that E ũ p,t C γ,p,σ,α,f. Since thi bound i independent of T, we have the reult. 4 Tightne of the Sequence (u(t, )) t and Proof of Theorem.2 We recall that, by Arzela-Acoli Theorem, the relatively compact et in C (,) are thoe which are equicontinuou. It follow that collection of function for which we can uniformly bound ome Hölder norm are relatively compact. Therefore, in order to prove tightne of (u(t, )) t, it i enough to how that E T x,y,,x y u(t,x) u(t,y) x y α < for ome α >. To how thi, we ue etimate (3.) and follow the work of Dalang and Zhang in 3, in which the author prove Hölder continuity for reflected SDPE. Since the remum over T appear outide the expectation, we can apply the reaoning from Zhang 3 to ũ(t,x) = e α(t t) u(t,x) for each T >, and then take the remum over T. Proof of Theorem.2. Let T > and define ũ(t,x) := e α(t t) u(t,x). By Propoition 3.2, we have that (ũ, η) olve the reflected SPDE (3.2). Define ṽ a the olution to the SPDE ṽ t = ṽ f(t,x,ũ(t,x)) σ(t,x,ũ(t,x)) 2 W x t,
Exitence of Invariant Meaure for Reflected SPDE with Dirichlet boundary condition v(t,) = v(t,) = and zero initial data. We now examine the Hölder continuity of ṽ. Writing ṽ in mild form, we have that ṽ(t,x) = G(t,x,y) f(,y,ũ(,y))dyd G(t,x,y) σ(,y,ũ(,y))w(dy,d) =: I T (t,x)i T 2 (t,x). Fix γ (,). By Propoition 3.5, we have that there exit X T L p (Ω) uch that, for every,t,t and every x,y, I T 2 (t,x) I T 2 (,y) X T ( t γ/4 x y γ/2 ) (4.) almot urely, with the following uniform bound on the X T : E X T p <. T> We now control the Hölder norm of I T. We have that I T (t,x) IT (,y) G(t r,x,z) f(r,z,ũ(r,z))dzdr (G(t r,x,z) G( r,x,z)) f(r,z,ũ(r,z))dzdr (G( r,x,z) G( r,y,z)) f(r,z,ũ(r,z))dzdr. We deal with the firt of thee term. Note that G(t r,x,z) f(r,z,ũ(r,z))dzdr t 2p/(p 2) G(t r,x,z)dz dr Note that p/(p 2) G(t r,x,z) dz 2 dr (p 2)/2p (p 2)/2p ( ( f(r,z,ũ(r,x) C f e α(t r) (C f α)ũ(r,x) f(r,,ũ(r, ) (p2)/2p dr ) 2p/(p2) f(r,,ũ(r, ) 2p/(p2) dr) (p2)/2p. (C f α)e α/2(t r) (e α/2(t r) ũ(r,z)). Applying Theorem 3. with α/2 in place of α we ee that E T> r,t z, e αp/2(t r) ũ(r,z) p <. (4.2)
Exitence of Invariant Meaure for Reflected SPDE It follow that ( ) (p2)/2p t p ( f(r,,ũ(r, ) 2p/(p2) dr = E L p (Ω) ( (p2)/2 ( t C f,α,p E e dr) αp(t r)/(p2) C f,α,p E T> r,t z, r,t z, e αp/2(t r) ũ(r,z) p. f(r,,ũ(r, ) 2p/(p2) dr e αp/2(t r) ũ(r,z) p ) ) (p2)/2 Therefore, making ue of thi together with (4.2) and etimate () of Propoition 3.4, we have that for every t,,t, G(t r,x,z) f(r,z,ũ(r,z))dzdr Ỹ T t γ/4, with E Ỹ T p <. Arguing in the ame way and applying the other etimate from Propoition 3.4, we obtain that for every t,,t and every x,y T>, almot urely, where E T> I T (t,x) I T (,y) Y T ( t γ/4 x y γ/2 ) (4.3) Y T p <. Setting Z T = X T Y T, we have from (4.) and (4.3) that Z T bound the (γ/4,γ/2)-hölder norm of ṽ. In the proof of Theorem 3.3 in 3 and Theorem 3.6 in 5, it i hown that the Hölder norm of ṽ control the Hölder norm of ũ. More preciely, we have that ũ(t,x) ũ(,y) C γ Z T ( t γ/4 x y γ/2 ) for every t,,t and every x,y, almot urely. In particular, we obtain u(t,x) u(t,y) p ũ(t,x) ũ(t,y) p E x y γp/2 = E x y γp/2 x,y,,x y x,y,,x y Noting that E Z T p < conclude the proof. T> C γ E Z T p. Remark 4.. Given our etimate (3.), we could alo have proved exitence of an invariant meaure by adapting the argument of Yang and Zhang in. We note that the law of u(t, ) i given by tarting the reflected SPDE with initial data u(t, ) and running the equation for one unit of time. Our bound (3.) give u control on u(t, ). Therefore, a in, we can argue by howing that the map from initial data to the olution at time for our reflected SPDE map bounded et in L p (Ω;C ((,))) to compact ubet of M(C ((,))). Acknowledgement.
