6 The 360 A Message From Mark Hubl-your President The final spin. This Lame Duck wants to start out by thanking the board members that I have served with over the past two years for their help and service to the club. Thanks to Dawn, Nick, Paul and Don. I also want to thank all those in voluntary roles that make sure what needs to get done, does get done. A big shout out to all those who have shared their talents with the club by demonstrating at our meetings over the past two years. And a final thanks to all our members! It is a great experience to get up in front of a packed house for our meetings every month. Over the last several years our meeting attendance has continued to swell. Thanks for your continued support. November election results are in! At our November meeting we elected a new board for the upcoming year. Jason Clark will be our new club President, Dawn Herndon- Charles will continue in the spot of Vice President, Nick Page will continue in the spot of Treasurer and Bruce Kamp will be our new Secretary/Editor. Congratulations and good luck to all! Thanks for your service and commitment to our club. Dues are due!!! Please get them in, the earlier the better! Our treasurer Nick Page will be happy to accept your dues and give you a personalized receipt! Please bring your cash or check to the next meeting. Continued on next page
7 The 360 continued from previous page Holiday Party news. Our December 19th meeting will be our Holiday Party. We will be holding the party at the same restaurant we did in 2016, the Bohemian Crystal. Our format and activities will be like last year. We will have a gift exchange: If you bring a gift, you get a gift. We will have two exchanges: Members: A wrapped gift (value at least $20) & A Made Gift: A hand-made gift (by you and /or your spouse). Wrap your gifts and put your name inside. We will also have a Free Raffle (You must be present). Put your money away-santa Rich has something for you! Bohemian Crystal Restaurant 639 Blackhawk Drive Westmont IL Cash Bar: 6:00 Dinner: 7:00 $10 / person, payable to Nick Page Once Upon a Christmas. Once again, our club members supported one of the Lisle Park District s premier events. Mother nature took it easy on our crew this year with a no heater required couple of days. Check out the pictures of the event. What a great looking group of turners. It looks like fun, fellowship and the spirit of the season were enjoyed by all. This is our third year in a row supporting this event through our turning and our demonstrations. Our collaborative efforts on the annual heritage society ornament have resulted in three consecutive sell outs at the festival!! Thanks to all who participated in making ornaments and a special thanks to the twelve members who braved the balmy weather and supported the event by demonstrating in the blacksmith shop. Job well done!! Thanks to Marie and Don for doing the ornament demonstrations at our November meeting. Nice job! As Always, Be Safe & Keep Turnin! Mark
8 The Windy City Woodturners At Once Upon a Christmas Lisle Park District Museums at Station Park, Lisle, IL Twelve Windy City Woodturners enjoyed a couple of balmy days on December second and third. It was the warmest Once Upon a Christmas since we started supporting the Park District at this event. Each time we demonstrate the older lathes a couple more of us realize how happy we are to live in the age of electric motors. Even with sharp modern tools and green wood already turned to round the Spring Pole and Treadle Lathe are a challenge. The members that volunteered at this year's Once Upon a Christmas were Mark McCleary, Bob Bergstrom, Rich Nye, Hector Fuster, Ed Kosteck, Don Johnston, Bruce Kamp, Paul Shotola, Joel Lamplough, Jason Clark, Pete D'Attomo, Fritz Wolf, and Paul Pyrcik. We enjoyed good weather, good fellowship, talking about turning and an interested crowd in the Blacksmith Shop on the second and third. I am personally very happy that we didn't have to fire up Pete's propane heater either day. I really enjoy these opportunities to stand around lathes and get to know each other better, and hope you do too. Thank you all for being a part of this effort supporting the Park District, and the community of Lisle. Don Johnston Some of the WCWT turning on antique (and one modern) lathes spanning 300 years of lathe history, including a spring pole lathe, a treadle lathe, and a early 20 th century lathe that originally ran off an overhead line shaft, plus a modern mini-lathe at Once Upon a Christmas, demonstrating and discussing woodturning to the crowds.

Each month, an experienced member reviews members current work in a gallery forum. In November, Dawn Herndon-Charles will bring her fine taste and critical eye to the table. We will have two tables set up, one for review items and a second table to show your work without a review. Current work is featured in this journal and on our website. All members are encouraged to bring their work to the tables. Members bringing work for review receive a raffle ticket for a gift card, so you could actually win a prize merely for doing something you actually love to do!
