The man sold the eggs and bought a farm. Then, a big house. Slowly, he became very rich. One day, he thought my goose lays only one egg everyday. I will kill the goose and get all the gold at once. He was a greedy man. The next day, He cut it open to get all the golden eggs. There were no golden eggs inside it at all. The man did not get golden eggs any more, and he also lost his goose. i. What was special about the magic goose? ii. How did the man buy a big house? iii. Why did the man kill the goose? iv. What do you learn from the story? v. Write the suitable title of the story. vi. In the village lived a simple, good-natured,kind fellow named Rip Van Winkle, ready to help anyone. On seeing him children shouted with joy because he played with them, he taught them to fly kites, shoot marbles, and told long stories. The only problem with Rip was that he was very lazy. He did no work on his own farm and just idled away his time. Weeds grew on his farm. Rip's constant companion was his dog, named Wolf. To avoid work, he would walk away into the forest with his dog. i. Where was the village situated? ii. Who was Rip Van Winkle? iii. Why did children shout with joy on seeing him? iv. What did Rip teach to children? v. Why did Rip not work on his farm? vi. Who was the constant companion of Rip Van Winkle? vii. What did he do to avoid work? viii. 3 UNSEEN PASSAGE Rekha was a girl of twelve. She was good at studies but she often came late to school. Her teachers told her again and again that she must be punctual. Sometimes, she was punished too. But she never learnt to be punctual. Once Rekha was to appear for an important examination. The top ten students who would pass the examination, were to be given a scholarship. Rekha was very keen to win the scholarship. But she reached late in the examination. She could not complete her paper and all her hopes were dashed. she learnt that day was to do things on time. i. What was the name of the girl? ii. How many years old was the girl? iii. Was she good at studies? iv. What were her teachers told her again and again? v. Why was Rekha often punished? vi. Did she learn to be punctual after getting punishment? vii. Why was Rekha keen to appear for the examination? viii. Did she reach on time the day of the examination? ix. Why were her hopes dashed? x. Find the words from the passage that mean: a. To be in time =... b.finish = SEEN PASSAGE Once, the Maharaja of Travancore ordered a grand dinner in his palace. In the afternoon before the dinner, the Maharaja entered the kitchen to survey the dishes that had been prepared for the feast. There he saw a lot of vegetable scraps in the basket. The king told the cook not to throw them but use them wisely. The cook was puzzled and kept staring at the vegetable scraps. Suddenly an idea flashed across his mind and he prepared a new dish. Everyone liked it very much. The cook named it avial which later become a very popular dish in kerala. i. Who ordered a grand dinner? ii.
