ACT 1 SCENE ONE (Narrators dance around and start telling the story.) Hello, friends! Have you ever heard about the story of the evil magician and his cape? Well, we are here to tell you the mysterious story about it. A long, long time ago, an evil and wicked magician lived in a castle high up on a mountain. SURPRISE! (Flipping his cape wildly up on the air) Go away so I can tell the story! Ugh, sorry, my bad... (Bows) He had a wonderful garden filled with delicious fruits and beautiful flowers. The magician would lie on a velvet couch under the branches while pretty dancing girls would dance and sing for him and pluck their guitars. You might think these girls were happy, but they were not. Of course they had to look happy in front of the magician, but they were unhappy and hated the evil magician inside. Whenever the magician thought that one of the young girls did not play or sing well enough, he would push her deep into the forest, where it was full of wolves and bears. Once they were inside the forest inside, it was quite impossible to get out. Whenever the magician got rid of a girl he got tired of, he would dress up and go out with his black flying cape which could change into enormous wings. He would tell them to step on his cape so that he could kidnap them and take them to his castle. Now now come along~ THE

(Walking quickly around the stage) Yes yes! Just let me get your velvet robe, honey for your lips, and magic dew for your eyes One day, he was flying in the sky when he spotted a village and saw a beautiful smith s daughter, Alvida, sitting at her window combing her beautiful hair. Her face was peaceful and her eyes were very clear, that is why everyone liked her. (Comes out and spots Alvida combing her hair) The magician was very delighted at the sight of her. But still he could not approach her until he waited for her to come outside with a basket to go to the forest to pick berries. (Comes out and picks berries and pretends to head to the forest with her basket) Beautiful maiden~ your feet are so small and fine that it s not safe to touch the ground, step on my cape! (Lets out a cape) (First looks frightened then laughs) I am not beautiful, you should better care of your good cape. Still, the magician wanted to bring her back so badly to his castle. He followed her wondering how to catch her. The magician saw a group of goats relaxing in a dell, and among them there was an enormous ram with curved horns If I could frighten her with a ram then I could hold out my cape to protect her...then she would try to hide behind it and step on my cape! The magician took out his magic whistle and blew on it and attracted a group of bees and hornets. This stung the ram and the ram looked around for something to butt.

Oh god! Look at that ram! It s trying to get me! (running away) The magician let out the cape for Alvida to step on it safely but he miscalculated. (Magician holds out his cape for Alvida to step on) Instead, Alvida of stepping on the magician s cape, she hid behind a pine tree. (The Ram chases her round and round) Ouch! (Falls down) (spreads his cape however the runs into it and it rips) Alvida saw this and felt sorry for the magician because the magician had tried to save her. The magician s cape was ripped badly. (Shaking her head) What a pity that your great cape is torn! (picks up a sharp rose thorn from the bush and takes out a strand of her hair and makes a needle and string) If I sew it neatly, I don t think you will see the tear that well. (takes the cape and pretends to sew the ripped part of the cape) Just let me see if it will do. (takes the cape from Alvida and shakes his head) I think it will need a few more stitches... (takes the cape back and steps on it) At the same moment, the magician lowered his cape and took Alvida. He spread his enormous wings and went up in the air with Alvida. HELP! HELP! HELP! CAN SOMEBODY PLEASE HELP ME? HELP! Suddenly, the magician s cape was caught in the branch and he had to let go of Alvida to free himself. Alvida jumped off from the magician and landed on the ground. She ran home as fast as she could.

NOOOOOO! COME BACK YOU LITTLE GIRL! No way you freak! (Groans and flies back to his castle with his cape and arrives at his castle) God I can t believe this happened! Sir, what happened?...nothing. GO AWAY. No! You look really angry! Tell me! Tell me! I said to go away, you little brat! I can solve your problems, sir! Tell me! Well, that s for sure. GET OUT RIGHT NOW OR I LL FIRE YOU! (frowns and gasps horridly) Sorry sir! I ll get out! (Gets out quickly screaming) The magician tried to finally sleep now. However the piece of hair that Alvida used for the string for the magician s cape glowed very brightly, and the magician could not sleep because of the bright light. Sir what is that light shining from your room? (Shuts the windows, but doesn t work) What is happening? Why is the light coming from the string? (rolls the cape up tightly so the hair cannot be seen but doesn t work) UGH! (cuts the string out of the cape)

Sir the light is still shining brightly! What? Sir! Where are you going? Don t tell me you re going back to that girl s house! (first knocks on the door frantically) Who is it? It is me, the magician. Open the window so I can talk to you. I will not hurt you again. Go away! (hides under her blanket looking scared) (pleading angrily) Come here you little girl! Because your wicked black hair which you sewed my cape with is shining so brightly and won t let me sleep! Please untie it so I can sleep! I think my hair is in the right place, Mr. Magician! YOU DESERVE IT! If you undo this seam, I will give you a large sack of beautiful gold! (shakes her head) If you undo the seam you can have a big farm with fields and pastures! CAN YOU JUST GO AWAY! YOU DESERVE IT! GO AWAY! GO AWAY! AHHH! (picks up delicious fruits and plants it on Alvida s house and goes away) I will come back tomorrow. I have planted some fruits on your house. Tomorrow it will grow and grow. Decide and quickly undo my seam tomorrow! (flies back to his castle)

The magician tried to sleep. This time, the light from the string shined faintly. He could finally sleep. The next day, Alvida woke up and saw an old woman eating a big juicy pear. OLD WOMAN Thank you for the beautiful pair! It fell from your window to the highway, and a fruit that lies on the highway is for anyone to take! Alvida did not touch any of the fruit herself. She let them fall so that thirsty travellers could pick them up and bless the gift. One night the magician knocked at Alvida s window Listen, my girl. I have given you all the treasures of my garden, because it dims the radiance of your foolish seam. But there must come and end to this. Won t you now cut the shining seam from my cape so that I may finally sleep in peace? Yeah! Let my master sleep in peace! Master, how come there is no reply? I think she hates you! The magician never got rid of the seam. If he ever dared to carry off a maiden again, Alvida s seam shone so brightly day and night that the Magician could not get a moment s peace until he had taken her home again where she belonged.
