1 DR. HASRIZAL BIN SHAARI Lecturer School of Marine & Environmental Sciences Universiti Malaysia Terengganu / QUALIFICATIONS Doctor of Philosophy (Marine Geochemistry), Hokkaido University (2013) Master of Science (Marine Geochemistry), Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (2007) Bachelor of Science (Marine Science), Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (2002) FIELD OF RESEARCH Marine Geochemistry Paleo-environmental Studies Paleoceonography Environmental Monitoring RESEARCH INTEREST My research group is working on marine geochemistry, paleo-environmental studies and environmental monitoring. Our recent interest is in the field of paleo-environmental changes which involving several ecosystems such as mangrove forest, peat and coastal area. Specifically, we try to understand the past environmental evolution by using some organic (Alkenone-paleothemometry, oragnic carbon and long chain n-alkene) and inorganic (trace element, CaCO 3, oxide elements and carbon-14) environmental proxies. This field is unique because it takes into consideration about the relationship between modern environmental conditions and the past environmental changes. One of our new research project is to understand the paleoclimate evolution in the east coast of Peninsular Malaysia during Holocene by using alkenone-paleothermometry and some inorganic marine proxies. Beside of the main task as a teaching staff in the school, I am also a research associate of the Institute of Oceanography and Environment (INOS) under the Marine Environmental Process (MEP) group of Higher Institution Center of Excellence (HiCoE).
