All waterways in the region are within the Torne River Muonio River Natura 2000 Site (FI301912, SCI). The Natura designation covers the water systems of the Torne and Muonio rivers, and there is no land included in the designation. The claims in Äkäsjokisuu were applied to carry out exploration for the commodities iron, copper, gold, molybdenum, silver, lead, zinc and nickel. The area comprised approx. 720 hectares. The claims were granted to Northland Mines Oy on November 30, 2007 and they expired in 2012 when an extension to the area was applied as an exploration permit (ML2012:0179). In late 2013, the extension application was cancelled. Äkäsjokisuu is known for its carbonate rock, which has been exploited from two quarries. Geologically the area is located on the western part of the Central Lapland greenstone belt and the area is prevailed by carbonate rocks assigned to the Savukoski Group. Before granting of the claims, the exploration was initiated by bedrock mapping and boulder hunting in the summer of In 2010 revised mapping was carried out in the area when exploration was concentrated on gold and copper. Focus of the exploration work was on possible shears and alterations in bedrock as well as on conductivity anomalies and rock contacts. One geochemical soil sampling profile (MMI) was sampled on claims 8309/3. Results of both geological mapping and geochemical soil sampling were negative in case of gold and copper exploration. No gold-copper bearing rock types or zones were found. 4 1 INTRODUCTION 1.1 Location Äkäsjokisuu study area (claims 8309/1-11) is located in Western Lapland in Kolari municipality, about 15 km north-northwest of the municipal center and couple of kilometers south from the municipal border between Kolari and Muonio (Figure 1). Highway E8, Muoniontie, passes through the area. The study area locates on map sheets U4231A and B, as well as on 4213G using UTM sheet line system. Äkäsjokisuu is known for its carbonate rock, which has been exploited from two quarries. Geologically the area is located on the western part of the Central Lapland greenstone belt (CLGB) and the area is prevailed by carbonate rocks assigned to the Savukoski Group. All waterways in the region are within the Torne River Muonio River Natura 2000 Site (FI301912, SCI). The Natura designation covers the water systems of the Torne and Muonio rivers, and there is no land included in the designation. Within the study area a notable tributary of the Muonio River system is Äkäsjoki River (next to claims 8309/4&10). Figure 1. 5 1.2 Property status The claims in Äkäsjokisuu were applied to carry out exploration for the commodities iron, copper, gold, molybdenum, silver, lead, zinc and nickel. The claims 8309/1-11 (Äkäs1-11) were granted for Northland Mines Oy on November 30, See property status in Table 1. The area comprised approx. 720 hectares. Claims expired on November 30, Extension to the area was applied as an exploration permit (ML2012:0179). Location of the mapping observations and soil sampling is presented in Figure 2. The coordinate system used in this exploration program was Finnish KKJ Zone 2. 6 2.1 Geological mapping Before granting of the Äkäsjokisuu claims, the exploration was initiated by bedrock mapping and boulder hunting in the summer of In 2010 revised mapping was carried out in the area when exploration was concentrated on gold and copper. Focus of the geological mapping was on possible shears and alterations in bedrock as well as on conductivity anomalies and rock contacts. Outcrops were rare within the claims on the western side of the highway E8. Most of the observations were on the eastern side of the highway, between rail road and northern side of the Lake Mannajärvi. Altogether 15 observations were done within the claims and one sample was analyzed. Observation locations are presented in Figure 2. Hand samples were analyzed by Labtium with 510M-, 510P-, 704P- and 703P-methods. Analysis of gold was determined by ICP-OES method (704P or 703P) after Pb-fire assay method using either 25 g or g subsamples. Detection limit for Au was 10 ppb. After aqua regia digestion of 0.2 g subsample 14 base metal elements were determined by ICP-OES method (510P). Pathfinders (Bi, Sb, Se and Te) were analyzed after aqua regia digestion with ICP-MS method (510M). Analyze batch In 2010 during mapping, was discovered an extensive trenching and drilling site (N , E358793) on claim 8309/3 (Figure 3 and 4). Northland has not executed this trenching. Work is carried out by third party with landowner s permission (aggregate exploration). The rehabilitation of the area has not been conducted and trenches are still open (rechecked 2014). All trenches consisted of sulphide bearing carbonate rocks. Northland mapped these trenches rather generally. Boundaries of the trenches were tracked with handgps. Figure 3 and 4. Geological mapping observations and analysis data are in the attached data files. 2.2 Geophysical surveys No geophysical survey was conducted on Äkäsjokisuu area by the company. The target was included in the highresolution aerogeophysical survey program in Kolari and regional aerogeophysical survey covering Western Lapland performed by the Geological Survey of Finland. The data produced by the surveys were provided for Northland and are in use of the company. 2.3 Geochemical soil sampling Carbonate rock in the trenches changes more sheared and locally rusty toward northwest, where occurs an electromagnetic anomaly on geophysical map. This contact between carbonate rock and electromagnetic anomaly is not outcropping and the contact was tested with one soil sampling profile in 2010 (Table 2, Figure 2). Used soil sampling method was mobile metal ions method (MMI). As a quality control from every ninth pit were collected duplicate samples. Altogether 49 samples were collected from 44 sampling pits. MMI samples were analyzed by ALS Scandinavia AB with Ionic Leach method ME-MS23 (analyze batch ). Relinquishment report 8309/1-11 3

Within the claim area, only one rock sample was analyzed (claims 8309/3). This sample was collected from the trench site from location where the carbonate rock was strongly weathered and rusty. Sample was collected from the southern side of the conductivity anomaly and was analyzed to give possible indicators from nearby conductivity anomaly which is not outcropping. Analyzes did not reveal any ore indicators. Couple of ore potential outcrops (sulphides, rusty, altered) was detected also elsewhere, outside the claim area, but unfortunately these rocks were as well barren. The conductivity anomaly itself and the contact between the anomaly and carbonate rocks were on focus of the exploration work. As the area was not outcropping it was tested with one MMI soil sampling profile. Elements such as gold, copper or pathfinders didn t have any anomalous values, i.e. no indications of possible mineralizations were detected. 4 CONCLUSIONS Results of both geological mapping and geochemical soil sampling were negative in case of gold and copper exploration. No gold-copper bearing rock types or zones were found. Although the Au-Cu exploration was discouraging, was decided to apply extension for the expiring claims (expiry November 30, 2012). The focus of the future exploration was planned to be in carbonate rocks, their quantity and quality as well as their suitability for neutralization of potential acid generation in the Hannukainen mine process. In late 2013 Northland revaluated all their exploration permits. It was decided to recall the extension application of the Äkäsjokisuu claims. Relinquishment report 8309/1-11 4
