1 1 2 3 Data Repository item Micropaleontologic Data Encinas et al Sample localities are plotted in Figure 2 and microfossil species that we recorded from outcrops and well samples of the Santo Domingo Formation are listed in Tables DR1 DR6. Well and outcrop samples are separated in different tables and ordered by geographic location from north to south. Benthic foraminifera and ostracodes indicative of deep-water deposition, and planktic foraminifera indicative of biostratigraphic age, are grouped separately in these tables. Foraminifera listed by previous authors are also indicated. Age and paleodepth interpretations of the samples are presented in Tables DR5 and DR6. Well samples were borrowed from ENAP and most were represented by micropaleontologic slides containing unmounted foraminifera that they had picked from washed residues of cuttings. We processed available core material as well as our outcrop samples using conventional techniques to isolate foraminifera and ostracodes. Some of the ENAP wells not only transected the Santo Domingo Formation but also a subjacent coal-bearing unit (see Geologic Setting). Some of its coaly intervals yielded internal molds of specimens that included those ascribed to the Eocene planktic foraminiferal genus Globigerinatheka by Finger and Encinas (2009). We extrapolated this by assigning an Eocene? age to all coaly intervals barren of these foraminiferal steinkerns, including those that had a few better-preserved Miocene specimens that were obviously caved downhole
2 CAPTIONS Table DR1. Checklist of planktic foraminifers in borehole sections. Shaded rows indicate intervals devoid of planktic foraminifers. Asterisk denotes occurrences that are probably cavings. Table DR2. Checklist of planktic foraminifers in outcrop samples (this study) and reported in previous studies. Shaded rows indicate samples devoid of planktic foraminifers. *Globigerinoides trilobus is synonymized with Gln. quadrilobatus. Table DR3. Checklist of deep-water benthic foraminifers and ostracodes in borehole sections. Species categorized according to their upper-depth limits. Shaded rows indicate intervals devoid of benthic microfossils. Asterisk denotes occurrences that are probably cavings. Table DR4. Checklist of benthic foraminifers and ostracodes in outcrop samples (this study) and reported in previous studies. Species categorized according to their upper-depth limits. Shaded rows indicate intervals devoid of benthic microfossils. Table DR5. Summary of planktic foraminiferal biostratigraphy and benthic foraminiferal paleoenvironments of the well sample intervals worked in this study, with supplementary notes. Table DR6. Summary of biostratigraphic and paleoenvironmental interpretations of the outcrops worked in this study, and interpretations of previous studies on the Santo Domingo Formation, with supplementary notes.
