2 WP1 D1.1. 2nd sample collection for 12th and 13th of June 2018 in Kevitsa Mine 1st sample collection for WP1 and WP2 was done in July After first sample series were tested in Leoben and Oulu Universities, and first results were received during winter and spring , a new campaign was planned and decided. This time the Team Benjamin Musuku, Aarne Perälä, Sini-Maria Kokko and Jukka Raatikainen planned and executed sample collection from the tailings pond and from one low grade / side rock blast bench. Team had explained to Kevitsa mine, which types of samples were targeted (amphiboles, diopside and ). From the tailings pond samples were collected from 4 different location based on historical data available, and from the blast bench (4 samples) based on mineralogical map which was made by Sini-Maria Kokko. Sample volumes were this time little bigger (all samples more than 25kg) The purpose of the task is to collect data and samples!2

3 WP1 2nd Sample collection for Tailings samples from the tailings pond This time samples were digged with a shovel from 4 locations representing treated ore from 2017 May-July to this year 2018 spring. Thus samples cover about 1year production. It was not possible to collectct samples from all wet locations Benjamin and Jukka To take sample, top surface was removed- off (10cm), then sample was taken from two layers bottom at about 50cm deep. Sample is not mixed yet. We had to take special care to climb up steep walls with heavy sample box.!3

4 WP1 2nd Sample collection for Tailings samples from the tailings pond The idea with collecting samples in selected locations is to have different possible mineralogical cases in tailings samples. Samples are in chronological order as follows: Nr summer May-July Nr autumn Aug-Sep Nr Nov-Dec Nr Feb-May More accurate collection is not possible. At the moment we do not have information on thickness of pond material to go deeper to get older samples.!4

5 WP1 2nd Sample collection for Tailings samples from the tailings pond Pipeline circulating the pond has distance markings. So you may check your location. Sample location in the tailings pond can be estimated using the historical data, where each East and West sector is marked on Excel sheet with a date and on the pond map with sector number. Old tailings settle and dry in the pond so that it is safe to walk on it. Unfortunately levels from 2013 to 2018 are very difficult to estimate, so we decided to take top materials this time.!5
