1 TOMMASO CERVI Department of physics Tel University of Pavia Cell Via Bassi 6 cervi.tommaso@gmail.com Pavia, Italy tommaso.cervi@pv.infn.it Unipv personal page PROFILE Ph.D. student at University of Pavia. My Ph.D. programme is devoted to the research and development of scintillation light detectors for liquefied noble-gas Time Projection Chambers (L-TPCs), with particular emphasis to liquid Argon (LAr) as a medium for rare event detection. The detection of scintillation light produced by charged particles into the detector volume is mandatory for trigger and timing purposes. Today almost all the LAr-TPCs are using Photomultiplier tubes (PMTs) that have the advatage of a big sensitive area but they are very expensive and not usable under external magnetic field. Possible alternative photodetectors that can be used for this purpose are Silicon Photomultipliers (SiPMs). These detectors have performance similar to the PMTs ones but the active area is much smaller. For this reasons my Ph.D. project is oriented to the study of array of SiPMs with a single common readout. At now, I tested an array made by 64 SiPM of 3 3 mm 2 of active area both at room and LAr temperatures. Furthermore, I m involved in the ICARUS experiment. I collaborated to test the 360 PMTs that will be used for the SBN project at Fermilab and I m developing the trigger and DAQ system for the ICARUS light detection system. Thanks to the experience in laboratory I have learned to use several instruments, such as: vacuum and cryogenics pumps, temperature controllers, pulses generators, laser diodes and optical fibers. Furthermore, I ve learned to use the data analysis software ROOT, the c++ language and the Labview sofware. EDUCATION PH.D.
