Description: examine how changes in abiotic factors (e.g. temperature and dissolved oxygen) affect marine animals living in a variety of coastal habitats, including rocky intertidal, kelp forest, and estuarine environments. Skills: experimental exposures (hypoxia, temperature), respirometry, heart rate measurement, blood collection and analyses, enzymology, immunochemistry, development of DNA dot-blotting technique to measure cell growth, animal collection and care (fish and invertebrate species).

Description: collected Antarctic fish species, conducted field experiments, and prepared samples for transportation to home laboratories. Significant cumulative time spent in the Western Antarctic Peninsula region at Palmer Station and aboard the ARSV Laurence M. Gould. Field seasons occurred in the austral autumn (April- June) of each odd-numbered year. Skills: preparing for and carrying out remote field research, seamanship and large vessel operations, fish collection and care, experimental design setup and animal treatment (e.g. temperature and chemical exposures, chemicallyinduced anemia), fish surgery, whole-animal vascular perfusions, tissue collection/storage Graduate Research Assistant, University of Maine, Orono, ME. Description: utilized a broad methodological and comparative approach to investigate questions aimed at understanding the physiological function and evolutionary adaptations of Antarctic notothenioid fishes to a highly frigid and physically stable marine environment.
