2 SUISANZOSHOKU Effect of the Extracted Solution from Enteromorpha prolifera Frond on Their Eearly Morphological Development Akinori DAN 1, Masanori HIRAOKA 2, Masao OHNO 3, and Masahiro NOTOYA 4 Abstract: Some developmental stages of Enteromorpha prolifera, reproductive cell, germling, young plant, were incubated with the extracted solution which was filtered from homogenized vegetative fronds of the same species. The filtered solution had no influence on the germination of reproductive cells, but suppressed the growth of germling after germination. When the germlings of 4.1 mm were incubated with different concentrations of the filtered solution, an increase in the concentration of filtered solution decreased the length of germling. This result suggests the growth of germling is suppressed by the filtered solution. Furthermore, on the cells of frond except for rhizoidal region, the rate of cells having rhizoid and irregular arrangement increased as increasing the concentration of filtered solution. The shape of rhizoids, which were incubated in high concentration, differed from the control. The effect for the young plant of 40.0 mm appeared generally with suppression to the growth and acceleration to have rhizoidal cell. The effect of filtered solution for the young plants was similar to that of the germlings.
