Такође важан фактор акумулације ових метала: Mn, Fe и Cu у ћелијама је присуство α-синуклеина, протеина који се нагомилава код ове болести. Методе које су применили у овим истраживањима спадају у нове методе које користе синхротронско зрачење и омогућавају прецизну детекцију ових елемената у траговима у ћелијама in situ. Mn и Fe су детектовани у перинуклеарном простору ћелија. Такође, доказан је утицај наталоженог протеина α- синуклеина на акумулацију ових метала.
