NATIONAL GEOPHYSICAL RESEARCH INSTITUTE, HYDERABAD, INDIA. Induction Workshop: (18-23 October, 2004) Venue for 17th workshop (18th to 23rd OCTOBER2004) NATIONAL GEOPHYSICAL RESEARCH INSTITUTE, HYDERABAD, INDIA.

Welcome to India! 5000 Years of civilisation Assimilation of technology Economic travel and living costs Improved communications to global centres India is well-connected by the global network of airlines. Mumbai and New Delhi are major international gateways. Hyderabad is connected to most cities in India and Singapore, Malayasia and Middle East. Mumbai - The Gateway to India : A major metropolis on the West Coast and financial capital of the country having a year-round mild climate, with temperatures 30ºc. Hyderabad - 400 years of heritage : A city situated on the Deccan Plateau at 500m elevation, with dry climate and mean temperatures around 25ºc, reinventing itself as one of the IT centres of the country

International bodies: The Workshop is supported by: International Union of Geodesy and Geophysics International Assembly of Geomagnetism and Aeronomy Working Group 1.2 National Science Foundation, U.S.A National Agencies: Indian National Science Academy Department of Science & Technology National Geophysical Research Institute Indian Institute of Geomagnetism Council of Scientific & Industrial Research Department of Ocean Development Oil Industry Development Board Oil & Natural Gas Commission Limited Directorate General of Hydrocarbons Oil India Limited THEME Induction Workshop: (18-23 October, 2004) The International Workshop on Electromagnetic (EM) Induction in the Earth is the premier venue for EM researchers around the world to exchange research results and new developments. EM measurements provide a unique view of the Earth because of the range of variations in electrical conductivity encountered in the Earth's sub-surface. Scientific sessions will primary focus on

1. Local and regional studies 2. 3D modelling and inversion from theory to application 3. Environmental studies 4. Application to Oil industry, geothermal activity and resources 5. Ocean studies 6. Anisotropy versus heterogeneity from lab to in-situ 7. The electrical lithosphere and asthenosphere 8. Seismic and volcanic imaging studies 9. Electromagnetic contribution to multi technique geophysical studies 10. EM studies of fossil and active continent-continent collision zones (1/2 day - end of the workshop just prior to the tacked-on Himalaya-Tibet workshop) 11. Deep EM studies of the continental lithosphere (for diamond industry interest) 12. Estimation of the response function, including removal of distortion using tensor decomposition. 13. Open session Venue:: National Geophysical Research Institute (An ISO 9001 Organisation) Hyderabad, India's principal Institution for R&D in earth science. Pre-Workshop (13-16 October 2004) MT Data Interpretation Workshop (MTDIW) will be tailor made for developing Human resource for EM research and investigations in developing countries. This would be in liaison with Interdivision Commission for Developing Countries - ICDC (IAGA). The MTDIW shall specially focus on the recent advances in data processing analysis, numerical modelling and interpretation of the results in the light of collateral data. Venue: Indian Institute of Geomagnetism, Navi Mumbai. A premier Institution for Geomagnetism, since 1841. Post-Workshop (24-25 October 2004) Multi-disciplinary studies of the Himalaya. A number of groups from all over the world have been involved in Geo-scientific investigations in Tibet and Himalaya. In 1997, Department of Science & Technology, Govt. of India has also launched a multi-disciplinary programme in NW Himalaya. A 2-days Workshop meeting will be organised to discuss the data and results emerging from all disciplines in different sectors of the Himalaya.
