We show that two herarches of spn Hamlton operators admt the same spectrum. Both Hamlton operators play a central role for quantum gates n partcular for the case spn- and the case spn-. The spn-, spn-, spn- and spn- cases are studed n detal. Entanglement and mutually unbased bases of the egenvectors s dscussed. Two trple spn Hamlton operators are also nvestgated. Both are also admttng the same spectrum. Let S, S, S be the spn matrces for spn s =,,,,.... The matrces are (s+) (s+) hermtan matrces (S and S are real symmetrc) wth trace equal to satsfyng the commutaton relatons [S,S ] = S, [S,S ] = S, [S,S ] = S. As a consequence we obtan (z C) e zs S e zs =cosh(z)s +snh(z)s e zs S e zs =cosh(z)s +snh(z)s e zs S e zs =cosh(z)s +snh(z)s. The egenvalues of S, S, S are s,s,..., s for a gven s. It s well known that S +S +S = s(s+)i s+ ()
where I s+ s the (s+) (s+) dentty matrx. Furthermore we have tr(sj ) = s(s+)(s+) () and tr(s j S k ) = for j k and j,k =,,. (4) In general we have that tr(sj n) = f n s odd and tr(sn j ) = s(s+)(s+) f n s even. From eq.(4) t follows that tr((s j S k ) (S l S m )) = f j k and l m. Note that for spn- we have S j = σ j (j =,,), where σ, σ, σ are the Paul spn matrces. We consder the two Hamlton operators (hermtan (s+) (s+) matrces) H = Ĥ ω = S S +S S +S S K = ˆK ω = S S +S S +S S and ther spectra. The correspondng quantum gates UĤ(ωt) = exp(ĥt/ ), U ˆK(ωt) = exp( ˆKt/ ) play a central role n quantum computng [,, ] n partcular for the case s = and the case s =. The Hamlton operators admt the same spectrum for all gven s,.e. the egenvalues (ncludng degeneracy) of the two Hamlton operators are the same for a gven spn s. Ths can be seen as follows. Utlzng eq.(), eq.(), eq.(4) and that tr(m N) = tr(m)tr(n) for any n n matrces M, N one fnds that tr( H j ) = tr( K j ) j =,,...,(s+). Ths mples that the egenvalues of H and K are the same ncludng degeneracy. Note that for any n n matrx A wth egenvalues λ,..., λ n we have wth k =,...,n [4]. tr(a k ) = λ k +λk + +λk n Consder the cases spn,, and. For spn- we have the hermtan matrces H = 4 ( ) 4 () ()
and K = 4 wth the egenvalues /4 ( ) and /4 ( ). Thus the matrces are nvertble. Normalzed egenvectors for H are,,,. The frst egenvector (one of the Bell states) s entangled. The thrd egenvector (one of the Bell states) s also entangled. The second and fourth egenvectors are not entangled. However owng to the degeneracy of the egenvalue /4 we can form two lnear combnatons of the egenvectors whch provde the two remanng Bell states. For the matrx K normalzed egenvectors are,,, All four vectors are entangled,.e. none of them can be wrtten as a Kronecker product of two vectors n C. They form a bass n C 4, but not an orthonormal bass. Owng to the degeneracy of the egenvalue /4 we can always form an orthonormal bass n C 4 whch are also normalzed egenvectors,,, Note that the second and fourth egenvector are not entangled. Ths orthonormal bass and the Bell bass,,,..
are mutually unbased bases [5]. For spn- (9 9 matrx) we fnd the egenvalues ( ) ( ), + (5 ). For spn- we have 6 6 matrces and fnd the egenvalues 5/4 ( ), /4 ( ), /4 (5 ), 9/4 ( ). For spn- we have 5 5 matrces and fnd the egenvalues 6 ( ), 5 ( ), (5 ), (7 ), +4 (9 ). The two operators H and K are connected by the followng untary matrx U. Let s s H = λ j h j h j, K = λ k k j k j j= be the spectral decomposton of H and K, respectvely. Then wth the untary matrx s U = k l h l we have U HU = K. l= We also note that [S S,S S ] = for spn-. However for spn- we have [S S,S S ]. For s = / the untary matrx (quantum gate) U(t) = exp(ĥt/ ) s gven by ( cos(ωt/) U(t) = (e ωt/4 ) e tω/4 sn(ωt/) k= ) sn(ωt/) (e ωt/4 ) cos(ωt/) where denotes the drect sum. For s = / the untary matrx (quantum gate) V(t) = exp( ˆKt/ ) s gven by V(t) = eωt/4 cos(ωt/) sn(ωt/) sn(ωt/) sn(ωt/) sn(ωt/) cos(ωt/) sn(ωt/) sn(ωt/) sn(ωt/) sn(ωt/) cos(ωt/) sn(ωt/) sn(ωt/) sn(ωt/) sn(ωt/) cos(ωt/) +eωt/4 I 4. Consder now the trple spn operators [6] for spn- H = Ĥ ω = S S S +S S S +S S S
and K = ˆK ω = S S S +S S S +S S S. Both admt the same spectrum gven by 8 (4 ), (4 ). 8 For hgher order spn we also fnd the same spectrum for the two trple spn Hamlton operators. References [] W.-H.
