AWBREY VILLAGE NEWS Neighbors working together to promote quality of life and enhancement of property values JANUARY 27, 2017 Board Meeting Info Board meetings are held four times a year. Our Annual Members Meeting was held on January 19, 2017. Our next Board meeting is Monday, April 3, 2017, 7:00 PM at the home of Kathryn Cullen: 1298 NW Remarkable. All AVHOA members are invited, and are encouraged to attend. Snow, Snow and More Snow Wow what a winter we have had. A record breaking amount of snowfall, 60 inches or more, has blanketed the city of Bend this year and no one was prepared. While the amount of snow is wonderful for those who enjoy winter sports, it has not been so good for those of us who have had to drive on the city streets and get out of our alleys. The City of Bend has exhausted their budget for snow removal and has had to use their reserve funds. Unfortunately for the residents in Awbrey Village, we are not a high priority area and have had to be happy with the independent contractors the city has hired. The Board Of Directors for AVHOA hired Miller Irrigation again this year to plow the alleyways in our neighborhood. At the October Board meeting we approved Miller Irrigation to plow alleyways after 2 inches of snow had fallen, from 4 inches previously. However, due to the amount of snow, Miller Irrigation was not able to keep up. Mr. Miller would plow our alleyways and then head over to the other neighborhoods he has contracts with. By the time he returned to Awbrey Village another 6 to 8 inches had accumulated. During this time residents had to drive on their alleys resulting in compacted snow. The snow plows are unable to remove compacted snow so it appeared that the alleys were not plowed. In 2015-2016, Miller Irrigation plowed our alleyways 5 times. So far this year, 2016-2017, they have plowed our alleyways 12 times. Neighbors with snow blowers were out helping where they could. Entire sidewalks were being cleared by one individual. Several were clearing, not only their driveways, but those of their neighbors and helped with BOARD OF DIRECTORS & OFFICERS Kathryn Cullen Director and President kmcullen88@gmail.com 1298 NW Remarkable Drive (541) 728-0880 Julie Smith Director and Treasurer dutchersmith@gmail.com 1177 NW Constellation Drive (541) 410-4470 Candy Baunsgard Director and Secretary candybau@hotmail.com 1295 NW Constellation Drive (541) 797-6078 Judy Kemper Vice President- Community Relations judykemper912@gmail.com 3316 NW Bungalow (541) 640-8195 ARCHITECTURAL REVIEW COMMITTEE Ron Giaier, Chairman rongiaier@gmail.com 1223 NW Constellation 908 400 2684 Member: Bruce Payne BOOKKEEPER/ HOA MANAGER Terrie Harris Diversified Bookkeeping Service HOA Management, Inc. terrie@hoa-bend.com 335 NE Lafayette Avenue Bend, OR 97701

removing snow from the alleyways as well. We also had neighbors out clearing the city streets. Neighbors were also out in force with roof rakes helping remove snow from roofs to prevent ice dams. For this we are very grateful! This is the true meaning of a wonderful neighborhood. Thank you to everyone who went above and beyond the call of duty. How can you help? *All residential properties have 24 hours to remove snow from sidewalks, mail boxes, and from around fire hydrants after it has fallen. *When shoveling snow, be sure to keep all snow on your property. Snow cannot be moved from the sidewalk into the street. *The City of Bend s street crews do their best to keep from plowing snow back up onto the sidewalk however, it may still occur. If the snow plow causes more snow to accumulate on your sidewalk, it is still your responsibility to keep the sidewalk clear. *Please remove snow from all drainage grates so melting snow, water, has someplace to go. *Please remove all vehicles from streets so the plows can get through. This means parking in your driveway or garage until streets are cleared. Then you can resume parking on streets *If you know of an elderly neighbor or individual who may need help shoveling their sidewalk, please consider doing it for them. * Read about City of Bend's Street Department snow removal operations * Join Nextdoor Awbrey Village To find someone who can remove your snow or to provide help to those in need. Web Site Update In case you missed this update: We have disabled our old Awbrey Village web site and are using our new site which is embedded in our HOA Management company site. To access it, just go to HOAbend.com. Once there, go to the HOA Info tab and you will find Awbrey Village there. This is a great place to check on meeting notices, agendas and minutes, in addition to us emailing them out. We have asked you all to let us know if you would like to opt-in to our members-only section on our secure website. This is recommended for added security and a place where we can share a directory of those that chose to opt in as well as announcements like yard sales, etc. Please let Candy Baunsgard know if you want to opt in to add your name to a member directory to be posted in our members only section. Even if you think you already have, please send her another note. PLEASE RESPOND. Her email is candybau@hotmail.com. We need to know if you will use this feature. The password for that secure section is: bungalow. What s Happening Get To Know Your Neighbor Happy Hour event. Please bring a small appetizer to share and your drink of choice.
