To find the rate of increase of the population, notice first that P (t) = 6.8 0.012 e 0.012t = 0.0816e 0.012t. The rate of increase in population in 2009 is given by P (0) = 0.0816e 0.012 0 = 0.0816. The population is increasing at a rate of 81.6 millions per year (since the given population was in billions per year). Problem 6.
