PREFACE This special publication of the Society's Bulletin series, is dedicated to papers presented at the Society's Petroleum Geology Conference & Exhibition 2002 which was held on the 15-16th October 2002 at Istana Hotel, Kuala Lumpur. I like to take this opportunity to congratulate the Organising Chairman of the Petroleum Geology Conference & Exhibition 2002, En. Ali Shariff and his Organising Committee, for putting up a highly commendable conference programme and exhibition. In response to our call for the full papers presented at Petroleum Geology Conference & Exhibition 2002, we are indeed happy that 10 authors took time off from their busy schedules to write up their papers. In addition, we have included 2 papers presented at Petroleum Geology Conference 1999 and one specially put together on behalf of the late Dr. Noor A'zim Ibrahim. The Society intends to publish the papers from the Petroleum Geology Conferences annually as they contain valuable information on the nature and setting of the petroleum resources, in particular, and the geology of the area, especially offshore, in general. The publication of this volume, I hope, will spur the many authors in this year's Petroleum Geology Conference & Exhibition 2003 to get down to writing up their full papers for publication for the next volume to be out in time for the Petroleum Geology Conference & Exhibition 2004. To the members of the editorial subcommittee, in particular Ng Tham Fatt and A.K. Fan, I like to extend my sincere appreciation for their tireless efforts for working round-the-clock to ensure that this volume will be available to all at the Petroleum Geology Conference & Exhibition 2003. I am grateful to reviewers for their prompt and excellent reviews. Last but not least, special thanks must be accorded to the authors of papers for their worthy contributions to this special publication. G.H. Teh
