Oil, Gas & Geotech Product Line Organo Modified Silicones TEGOPREN Organomodified Siloxanes Structurally, the TEGOPREN line of products are closely related to Polydimethyl siloxanes (PDMS), better known as methyl silicone oils or simply silicone oils. Pure silicone oils are characterized by their chemical inertness, good temperature stability and excellent surface activity. Their surface tension is very low (21 mn.m), much lower than that of hydrocarbon surfactants. In this respect, they are only surpassed by some fluorocarbon surfactants. The poor solubility of silicone in most solvents prevents the full utilization of their advantageous properties. For the majority of potential applications, it is necessary to modify the polydimethyl siloxane in order to make them compatible, with or soluble in, aqueous or organic systems. This is achieved by incorporating various organic moieties. This type of modification makes it possible to produce specific physiochemical interactions or chemical reactivity with, or in, a substance phase. In addition to their pronounced surfactant properties in aqueous and organic systems, TEGOPREN products are primarily characterized by their multifunctionality. Their properties include: levelling, wetting or dewetting; releasing and / or debonding; foaming or defoaming; emulsifying or demulsifying; hydrophilic or hydrophobic; dispersing or coagulating. The function that TEGOPREN products fulfill in a given case depends on two factors; the medium (aqueous or organic) and more importantly, the respective structural parameters (type and degree of modification as well as the siloxane segment involved). TEGORPREN s can also exhibit multifunctionality, provided the properties are not inconsistent with one another. A release agent, for instance can also be a good emulsifer. As a result of the siloxane component, TEGOPREN s are highly surface active. The modifying organic groups of the TEGOPREN s make them compatible with aqueous and organic systems. Thus, the low surface energy of the siloxane segments is transferred to the interface. TEGOPREN s reduce surface tension much more than organic surfactants. They are also active in nonaqueous systems where organic products fail to work. Polyether Siloxanes Polyether siloxanes are copolymers consisting of polymethyl siloxanes and polyethers. Depending on their EO/PO ratio, the solubility of polyether siloxanes can be adjusted to obtain oil or water soluble products. Therefore polyether siloxanes are the most versatile product group among the organomodified siloxanes. The most important parameters for the application of TEGOPREN polyether siloxanes are their solubility and their surface tension in water and / or organic systems. Silicone Quats Silicone quats are positively charged products which are water soluble / dispersible and highly substantive to most surfaces. Silicone quats are a class of OMS carrying quaternary nitrogens. 3
