Survey of Israel Content Introduction To the Survey of Israel The operation assumptions The main responsibilities and projects The Hydrological data enhancement project Conclusions

Survey of Israel Policy Licensing Surveyors Survey Regulations Cadastre Research Professional lead Mapping & GIS Geodesy The Survey of Israel is a governm ental agency for M apping, Geodesy, Cadast re and Geoinform at ics

Established in 1920 during the British Mandate The SOI building in 1930 ~ 250 employees. Annual budget of ~ 25M The DG leads the Israeli inter-governmental committee for GIS The SOI building today

Challenges and problem s The State of Israel is facing some tough challenges: High population density Rapid urbanization Severe shortage in land Serious scarcity in water Global problems: Global warming Energy crisis Rising cost of basic commodities Specific problem Security Politics 5 The Dead Sea

Effective solution requires: Reliable geospatial information which is based on a common geodetic framework Data integration and sharing among agencies Demographics Natural resources Climate Industry and business Planning and development Land 7 Homeland Security

Survey of Israel The cadastral system in Israel is a register of properties following the Torrence principles. The state guarantees the title (property location, delimitation and ownership). The Survey of Israel is responsible for the geodetic accuracy and accordance to the zoning plan. Land settlement, covers nowadays about 96% of the State area and includes about 16,000 blocks that contain 800,000 parcels. The annual number of new mutation plans approved by the SOI is 1200-1600 plans. 8

Survey of Israel Coordinate Based Cadaster (CBC) Maritime Cadaster Boundaries recording plan. 3D Cadaster Cloud based services On-line Cadaster information system. On-line QA and coordinates transformation services. Integration of planning, surveying, registration and construction procedures.

The Survey of Israel is responsible for the Geodetic Infrastructure of Israel, including the Horizontal Control - a network of 22 continuously operating reference stations Vertical control a network of Benchmarks Vertical control a network of Benchmarks surveyed with high accuracy and a geoid undulation model

Survey of Israel Since 1991 the Survey of Israel maps the entire country using 1:40000 aerial photography and field surveys. The National Topographic Database includes Building, Transportation, Street names, Land Cover, Hydrology, Elevation, and many more layers.

Survey of Israel Color Ortho-photographes at a resolution of 25 cm on an annual basis. The Ortho - photographes are produced using digital cameras (including the innovative A3 camera from Visionmap) These data are used by all the governmental offices for planning, construction, management, Emergency services and more.

A national website that disseminates more than 140 governmental layers in a friendly user interface. The Geo-portal supports user generated content, various software interfaces (APIs), eight tailor-made application to retrieve data (Census data, aerial photographs, bus routes, planning maps, etc.) and more.

Special applications developed in collaboration with government agencies Ten special applications were developed in collaboration with the different governmental agencies including: The transportation ministry Public transportation The Census Bureau Demographics data Israel Land Authority Zoning maps Israel Meteorological Service climate and weather data Ministry of Environmental Protection - Cellular towers, real time air quality information

Survey of Israel 1. The flow channels (streams+ tunnels) 2. Water bodies 3. Hydrographic lines (water falls, dams, etc.) 4. Water sources (springs, wells, holes, etc.) 5. Basins

Survey of Israel The starting point.. Last updated 2004 A vast demand for up to date data Was not exist Strong demand from users to build network and stream order Many hydro line where collected for DEM, but with no hydro function Most of the users demanded generalization
