Lakeway s first 300 homes / Old Lakeway Neighborhood Project Preserving Lakeway s history through its homes and forming a neighborhood known as Old Lakeway

Today Brief backgrounder on the Project Updates: First 300 house signs Old Lakeway street signs 4 th of July parade Charity house tour Questions / Comments

Please, make sure to sign before you leave I, the undersigned Lakeway homeowner, have read the following proposed resident lead Project and support the initiative: The Lakeway 300 Project is a resident-led initiative to establish Lakeway s first true neighborhood, known as Old Lakeway. The area is defined by Lakeway s first 300 homes built prior to April 1971, and within the original 1,000 acres developed. Each of these homes is architecturally significant to the history of the area, so the Project also encourages homeowners to honor the original architects design vision. Our goal is for no additional government regulations or restrictions. Two initiatives of the Project right now are to install signage on the first 300 homes built in Lakeway (at the homeowners expense ). And, to install "sign toppers" on of all street intersection signs within the "Old Lakeway" neighborhood. The process and cost to install these signs is tbd and MAY include costs to neighborhood residents. Other Project efforts including history of the area, specific homes / history, local regulations (such a view restrictions), area homes for sale, Project events, etc can be found on the website at www.lakeway300.com Making it official Defining the Project Two visible projects. House signs you pay for if you want. Street signs now have support of LCC. Rest on website

Brief history of Project Began in spring 2015 as a concept Project based on first developers (Lkwy Land Co) Oct 1962 April 1971 300 homes 1000 acres / 17 Sections developed Started out to recognize the first 300 homes Quickly morphed into adding Old Lakeway neighborhood Goals: Realize, recognize and preserve Resident led No additional government regulations or restrictions Gain the advantages of a neighborhood vs individuals

Two primary goals of the Project Recognize the first 300 homes built in Lakeway with an emphasis on those that retain the original architects exterior vision Subgoal: making these homes "special" to help keep them from being lost Form Lakeway s first real neighborhood, known as Old Lakeway Subgoal: building a resident coalition to help retain all that is "Old Lakeway".and have some fun connecting with neighbors in the process! Our goal is for no additional government regulations or restrictions. This has been expressed as a "concern" by several residents But it's a challenge to preserve without some level of regulation Good example is View Protection

From the website.. WHAT IS THE LAKEWAY 300 PROJECT? The Lakeway 300 Project is a resident-led initiative to establish Lakeway s first true neighborhood, known as Old Lakeway. WHO SHOULD GET INVOLVED? If you own a pre-april 1971 home and/or live within Old Lakeway and: Would like to be part of the effort to establish this area as a true neighborhood Are interested in the uniqueness and history of this area Are interested in or have history about your pre-april 1971 home Appreciate the architectural uniqueness of the original homes in Lakeway Would like to meet your neighbors then, this is the project for you! We also welcome anyone else to get involved who is interested in preserving Lakeway s history, home architecture, or helping to establish a neighborhood!

Advantage examples of a neighborhood Facilitate achieving common neighborhood goals Provide the neighborhood with a common voice and an effective means of communicating with government officials and other instrumental groups Empowered neighborhoods can have input in events happening in their area members take part in the decision making that affects their neighborhoods Organize and help members work for preservation and improvements in their neighborhood Planning and holding social activities for the neighborhood Organizing neighborhood improvement projects Old Lakeway is unique within Lakeway in many ways It is NOT Rough Hollow (for example) Lakeway is 6000++ homes / Old Lakeway is <1000 homes

Old Lakeway neighborhood Lake Travis / Live Oak gc / Airpark / The Inn The mature oaks Narrow winding streets Many steep driveways Septic systems (Lakeway MUD is working on a possible sewer offering) Great architecture of the early homes A wonderful blend of old and new homes Great history.... i.e.: Not the rest of Lakeway

"Old Lakeway" and the first 300 homes.

http://lakeway300.com/signage-intro/ The sign is approx. 5 in. x 10 in. and weather durable. It was designed and is being partially subsidized by local business, Stokes Sign Company. The cost of the sign for each home owner is just $50 which includes installation. Approval is required for the home owner to receive the sign. If you own an original Lakeway 300 home, show the rest of Lakeway that your home is something special! Contact us for more information and let us know you are interested in the signage project.

Old Lakeway street signs - Visually define the neighborhood

The signage is nice, but with the voice of a neighborhood we could possibly Car show / music festival as a PR / fund raiser for Old Lakeway Do strategic cedar tree removal for view restoration Do correct oak trimming training / neighborhood coordination for view restoration Modification of current Lakeway view restriction ordinance to include newly planted vegetation Permit modification for older homes to allow new blacktop driveways Set up specific Old Lakeway blog? Facebook? Nextdoor? Home construction / remodel (like HGTV) project Contacts with key Lakeway realty companies / goal to tie MLS to lakeway300.com Shared / vetted home sub contractors list Avoid new Lakeway construction standards never get applied to remodeling E.g.: if you expand an older home, you have to meet the new stucco / stone exterior finish std Create a general Old Lakeway neighborhood spirit..

Upcoming projects 4 th of July parade One of our Old Lakeway residents leading the effort to have a float in the parade Promote Old Lakeway neighborhood / Project Still need a 60 s -70 s convertible car if possible Volunteer walkers for the parade please see Steve Home tour / local charity fund raiser 5-6 homes / one day tour between Thanksgiving and Christmas Promoted by company (prefer realty) / ticket sales go to local charity Neighborhood prof home photographer has offered his time Adam Has also offer time to take photos for adding your home to website directory of homes And, has offered a discount for other home photography services website is adamdubich.com.

Right now. Sign project support document / petition today Need someone to take over house signs for the summer Please see me today or send me an email if interested lakeway300@gmail.com Follow Up on 4 th of July parade with Steve Car / parade participants schrmpf@gmail.com Follow up with Adam on photography for web directory Adam@adamdubich.com Spread word of the Project / talk with your neighbors Send them to lakeway300.com or oldlakeway.com

What does success look like? 10 years from now "Old Lakeway" is an historic district Or at least a recognized neighborhood throughout greater Austin (Ref comment from East Austin realtor) Property values increasing at a greater rate than rest of Lakeway? 240+ (80%) of the first 300 homes still exist And the emphasis is on maintaining the original architects exterior vision Now is the time to act No regrets in the future

Thank you!! Brian Brown - (The Kompanee ) and "Old Lakeway" resident for website dev Stephanie Threinen (Beyond Green Media ) and Lakeway resident for the website content creation Nancy Stokes Stokes Sign Company for the design talent on signs, providing them at a subsidized rate and holding inventory at no cost Mike Boston Lakeway Heritage Commission for ALL the great encouragement and historical information Peggy Point Lakeway Heritage Commission for the commission endorsement and her personal support David Crutcher "Old Lakeway" resident for his help in researching history of homes Mayor Joe Bain for the his past support City Council member Jean Hennagin for her Project involvement and support Jeff Pierce Realty Austin for his support and ideas
